Of course they are going to fix the frame rate... The game sounds like a potential "God of War-Killer". In fact, I want the Too Human Trilogy more than anything related to Eternal Darkness... I haven't played it much, but it seemed like a watered down Resident Evil. Or anyone cares to make me rethink what I said? Please, do so.

I'd love to see a sequel, in any capacity, to Eternal Darkness. It was an incredibly addicting game that was not only geared towards a mature audience but also had a compelling storyline told through multiple characters and time periods.
It's unfortunate though that it came out only on the Gamecube. If you're into Resident Evil but wanted a deeper and darker storyline, you MUST check out Eternal Darkness.
Brandon @ Jul 10th 2006 8:59PM
I loved it when I first played it, but let me tell you, it isn't a game that has aged well. It's difficult to play now, not even a into the next generation yet.
Zanch @ Jul 10th 2006 9:01PM
To #1, Eternal Darkness was easily one of the Gamecube's best games. Play through it to the end and you'll see. It's not RE lite, it's just different. It has a great story, cool characters and insanity effects add a really cool layer of immersion to the game. As it stands, I'm not too excited about Too Human after playing it at E3, but I have faith in Silicon Knights because I loved ED so much, so hopefully they can turn it around before release.

I'm loving that game, though stuck. It's the first entertainment anything since childhood that has made me scream in fright. Bloody statue.

To #1.
First of all the fact that you evern judged the game without playing it makes you seem pretty ridiculous. Second of all... go play the game, and you should realize that it is FAR from any game having any similarities with Resident Evil.
I wouldn't see someone who does not have a "Thinkers Mind" to find Eternal Darkness enjoyable.
On the flip side.. I also LOVE Resident Evil games(Even though I only started playing them ont he Gamecube... with RE4 being my fave.) So I am not being biassed when I say ET: Sanity's Requiem is great.

You know what guys? I WILL go play it. Thanks for the hot tip! :)

#7: The first thing I thought upon playing that game was RE. It has zombies, prerendered enviroments, puzzles, a crappy inventory system, and you have to go into an aim mode to (properly) aim.
I'd like to see versions of the game with a decent 3rd-person cam, though.

Oh shut up! Resident Evil does not have a monopoly on Zombies; they are classic horror monsters. Eternal Darkness DOES NOT, I repeat, DOES NOT have prerendered graphics; it was fully 3D, you moron! A Crappy inventory? "Crappy" is relative; Maybe you just have a crappy brain. Aim mode? What are you talking about? Most of the time you have a sword or something, and when you used a gun aiming was EASY! You are just an idiot hater!

No way am I even touching an Eternal Darkness sequel. The first one erased my memory card!
Dave Roz @ Jul 10th 2006 10:45PM
Seriously, Eternal Darkness was no "RE4", but it was the first game that truly excelled in the "player mind fuck" genre.
A gem for the GC. Go pick it up used for 6 bucks. Definitely worth it.
flyguy @ Jul 10th 2006 11:02PM
I enjoyed "Eternal Darkness"...but it has to be one of the most overrated games of all time. I always make sure I leave a games-related conversation when "ED" is brought up. Fanboys are so freakin' defensive about the game because it's one of the few decent 3rd party titles for the GameCube.
Mojo @ Jul 10th 2006 11:03PM
lol @ Dave
Hehe, yeah and it kept unplugging my damn controller.
Scott @ Jul 10th 2006 11:11PM
LOL @ 11.
I remember those sanity effects well. I remember walking up to some zombie thing with no sanity left and my limbs started falling off. I love the one where te volume bar comes up on screen and gradually mutes your game...ROFL. And the erasing memory card jip was nearly as good as the "Unplugged Controller" warning that actually had me off the seat replugging it back in....LOL. I hope a sequal will encorporate some more jips, like instead of a zombie being summoned, Micheal Jackson shows up and starts dancing to 'Thriller'..i would axe him so fast, lol.
kriswlak @ Jul 11th 2006 12:07AM
Awesome game! Anyone who hasn't played Eternal Darkness should really try this one out.
Pretty Obvious @ Jul 11th 2006 12:10AM
Like I said before, though Resident Evil 4 was a good game. Eternal Darkness was the best game the Cube had in its entire lifespan. I cant wait for seconds......
Babylonian @ Jul 11th 2006 12:50AM
Seeing as I loved Eternal Darkness and have absolutely no desire to play Too Human, it seems like it'll be a while before he actually churns out anything that interests me.
Martin @ Jul 11th 2006 7:11AM
HAHAHAHA, The memory card one scared the crap out of me when I played ED.
John Q. @ Jul 11th 2006 8:19AM
A note, flyguy: the game, when it was developed, was second-party, like Rare's N64 stuff. Silicon Knights was owned by Nintendo.
I just picked this game up for cheap, and it's totally worth it. Graphics are not fantastic, but they're good enough to convey the creepiness of the game. Definitely not unplayable or less fun today.
It plays very differently from the (classic*) RE series. The freedom of movement you have (no tank controls) is very liberating, and the targeted aiming is a big step up. Combined with its focus on melee weapons over guns, you have a control system much different (and better to me) than RE's.
Sanity effects are great, though I haven't had the "controller unplugged" one or the memory card one yet. Shame.
*I didn't include RE4 in the comparison, because it's so different. Its controls are definitely better than ED's, but they would make the game play totally differently. ED's suit it very well.

Sounds like a great game, thank you for the mini reviews I'll try to track down the game today. I've been buying some of the top games for the Cube and Xbox this past few months.
striderhayasa @ Jul 11th 2006 11:02AM
One thing I'm surpised I haven't heard anyone mention is the ability to watch all of the cut scenes in succession after you beat the game (full ending). I tried it one day and they were over an hour if memory serves. The scariest part of the game for me was my first time going into the bathroom in the mansion. For anyone that hasn't played the game yet I won't spoil it...that part scared the hell out of me so bad that I dropped the joystick and screamed. My sisters were watching me play and they jumped too.
The soudtrack is also very good. I love the game. It's still in my collection to this day. RE clone it's not. too Human I'm not really interested in either. But I will say this though, Silicon Knights is the same group that developed Blood Omen: the Legacy of Kain and they developed 90% of Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver before they got ripped off. I have faith that they can make a quality product.
Kev @ Jul 11th 2006 4:59PM
#22, gotta love the bathroom scene. :) Same thing happened to me.
