New Pong wall clock is hot!

Though not the first Pong clock we've seen by Dutch Designers Buro Vormkrijgers, this newer, smaller version is pretty hot too. Follow the link for pictures of a freshly arrived Pong Clock from box to wall.

Military time? ugh
Ody @ Jul 10th 2006 2:29PM
That looks really cool. Must be an attention grabber when someone walks by. Though someone might wonder why there's a tv on the wall and it only shows some old school players playing pong. I can hear people watching the game.
"That second player sucks! He gets scored on 59 times more than the first player."
"There's a bug! when the second player scores, his score resets to 00, whats up with that?!?"

It's normal in Holland to use what Americans call military time. We (almost) never use a.m. or p.m.
The company name roughly translates as shapewarriors btw :)
Draco @ Jul 10th 2006 3:30PM
yeah "military time" or the 24 hour clock is all we use in Canada (there is no am/pm in french btw), except for television (which is mostly US, I don't think you can find a street sign that sais PM on it.

Tere is actually a widget for the apple os X tiger dashboard that is a pong clock. It doubles as a playable game of pong. Click my name for the link.

this was in wired a few months back kinda dated.

We use 12 hour in America because we are too stupid to use 24 hours. Subtracing 1200 from 1800 to get 6:00 pm is too difficult.
Glad we at least use the metric system which is much easier than the US system...oh wait....
Ben @ Jul 10th 2006 4:19PM
I don't know why people are down on military time. I'm an American and I've always gone by a twenty-four hour clock. It's more efficient/accurate IMHO. Anyway, that pong clock looks awesome.

Um, I tried like heck to find out how much this thing costs, but not only are they sold out, but it's also not for auction on eBay like their site mentions.
Anyone have a clue how much $$ this thing costs? It's pretty damn sweet lookin'.
SoB @ Jul 10th 2006 5:41PM
Luckily, when I first read about these clocks i pre-ordered one. After loads of legal/supply problems, the company have produced only 400 of them.
390 were sold to pre-orders, 10 were ebayed (not sure if they've done that yet or not).
Anyhow, I got an email a while back telling me to pay, which I did. I still haven't received it yet :(
The total price, including extra 4% for paying with Paypal, VAT, and shipping = €225.95 = £156.218 = $287.
Now that I look it at, it's waaaaaaaay too much.

If I recall, the one from a few months back was *very* expensive. I think this place banks on the "fine art" pricing scheme. I really wish they would team up with ThinkGeek or something and make some consumer friendly ones.
GSI @ Jul 10th 2006 6:28PM
$287?!?!? Are you kidding me!
I did want one but not THAT badly. If it was a lot bigger then maybe.

Um... by "Canada", you mean perhaps "Quebec"?
In Ontario we AM/PM like the best of them. And the street signs have AM/PM too.
#2
You mean the first player sucks! The second player keeps getting a huge score!
Draco @ Jul 10th 2006 7:23PM
I live in Manitoba, so no not quebec, I've seen a few signs with am/pm but very very rarely.
Ontario is alot more American though :P, hell most of ontarios population is below the 49th parallel
Hell even the fast food chains all run on the 24 hour clock. (well our clocks/watches are 12 hr.. but I dont think there is any way around that..)
KLink @ Jul 10th 2006 7:32PM
#13 I've beeen to Quebec: They use mainly 12-houur time.
Two words: Pong watch.
THAT I would buy. If anyone can make it, BenHeck can.
flyNN @ Jul 11th 2006 2:13PM
lol @ BenHeck can... fo shizzle! That dude is a mean-modder.
Um, yeah, I'm going to have to pass on the $287 clock!!! No matter how cool it is (damn, that thing is pretty cool).
Hart704 @ Jul 11th 2006 3:03PM
#1 - 24 hour time is bad. Just add 12 to the hour if it's in PM. If it's AM leave it as is. If it's the midnight hour it becomes 00. Simple.
Hart704 @ Jul 11th 2006 3:04PM
24 hour time is *NOT* bad. Oops!
Haven @ Jul 14th 2006 12:38AM
Klink, there is a pong watch, and a centipede watch, and an asteroids watch. These however *except possibly the asteroid watch* are merely background animations and not the game itself. Fossil makes them, or licences the rights to produce the watches. I nearly got the asteroids one, but it was more than I wanted to pay for nostalgia.
