Readers pick best webcomic (July 2 - 8, 2006)
In their sophomore appearance on the wrapup (correct me if I'm wrong), F@NB0Y$ took the top spot for adding style to an old and overused RPG cliché -- congratulations on becoming the fan-favorite webcomic of the week. Second place went to the very beautiful, very extreme, very new Hooked on Polygons, and perennial favorites VG Cats stole third place (ba-dum-dum-pish).A general consensus from commentors was that we robbed Ctrl+Alt+Del and Penny Arcade of spots up there that would have made the list deserving. However, one must remember that this is for game-related comic strips, not comics that perpetually discuss games, and PA did not tackle gaming at all this week. The DS Lite mockup done by Tim Buckley had already been given its due the day prior.
We're not forgetting about the big guns in game comics, but we'd rather keep to the rules and throw some newer artists in the mix who would not normally get their work out. As Tim Buckley put it, "it's all in good fun."
So thanks to everyone who voted, regardless of your choice, and be sure to let us know of any game-related webcomics you stumble upon this week!

Actually, looking at the poll, it looks like the "None" option took top honours.

I didn't really like that comic much (or the majority of the comics this time). Congrats to the winner though ;)

Correct me if I am wrong, but Fanboys Online appears to have come in second to there being no funny comic this week. I would think that should at least be mentioned somewhere in the post.

Congratulations to the winner. While I didn't vote for that comic in particular I did get a chuckle out of it. But, anyways, I made a gaming related comic this week. Check it out below.

Uh, wait... what?? Since when does 28% beat out 35%? Over 1/3 of voters stated that this week's comics were crap!

Panel 1:
Sony Head: I dont know Jeff, these ads seem a little...
Jeff: Oh come on, they're fine!
Panel 2:
Sony Head: Well, okay, your head of advertisment. Lets get these up.
*Sony Head Walks off*
Panel 3:
*Jeff takes off mask*
Reggie Fils Aime: Haha. Freakin' idiots.
Master Piece! MASTER PIECE, I MUST SAY!

One of the few reasons I fire up the compy on saturday is for the comic roundup. The 1st place finish by the "nada" category should send a clear message that a better lineup needs to be presented. As opposed to the polyannaish "support the little guys" message posted above.

At the very least, use the funnier of a series' strips from the time period. *cough*Dueling Analogs*cough*
Xiath @ Jul 11th 2006 6:49PM
To those who keep bitching that the "nada" category didn't win, it's quite simple. The title says "the best webcomic" not the most voted for option. The nada is for people who still want to vote but didn't find a comic amusing and instead would vote for one they didn't really like or not at al.

Hey, Thanks a bunch to everyone who voted for my comic, and thanks to everyone who didnt vote but is congradulating me on the win. It means alot to me and i'll keep up the hard work to try to make you people laugh.
as for me not winning... the throw away votes have beaten everyone a couple times now. I'm not the first and probably wont be the last.
Again, thanks for the votes and the kind words people. I'm off to making comics,
peace out. :)

Yeah, last time I checked, no comic at all isn't considered a comic and therefore couldn't possibly win best comic due to the fact that it misses the prerequisite of said poll in question.
And regarding the DS Lite ad created by Mr. Buckley. He hit one right out of the park.

I think the way Joystiq is picking up the new guys is awesome. There is defineteley great work out there to be seen by independents, as the infant site who took second demonstrated. They already have another great one up.
I look forward to seeing more stuff from them and other fantastic new artists in the future.

I think this one is worthy for the next wrap up! Though I may be a bit Biased *shrug* :)

Actually, I loved the winner's comic this week. In fact, I bookmarked his page. Reminds me of what Penny-Arcade used to be before it got too preachy and, well, not funny. Really, guys, Tycho puts way too much effort into making his posts sound intelligent. I can easily picture him writing his posts with a thesaurus in hand. It's gotten old.
