I downloaded the trial version for Frogger and I thought the graphics sucked. The screen looked all smushed in and elongated and just looked terrible on my 56" HDTV. I was very disappointed. I quite the game right away in disgust and went back to the dashboard. Then I noticed 3 other friends where playing it and one had purchased it. I rang him up and asked him if he had the same problem. He did but was not to bothered by it. Then he decided to check the options and in there where two settings to adjust the screen size. This was a first to my knowledge. Why would they do this. Anyways I tried it again and adjusted the screen size and I was much happier.

I hope I didn't loss you by now but if you tried Frogger out and didn't like it either because the screen size was all jacked up. Give it a try one more time and adjust the screen size. You will find it is a lot better.

When is Time Pilot coming out.

Isn't Frogger supposed to have some updated graphics. Nothing more than a face-lift, but it could make it more bareable to look at.

Sure but there not supposed to be smushed in and/or elongated. You need to read my comment above over again, it didn't quite get through that thick scull.

#there is an option in the game so you can adjust the the games horizontally & vertically . Thats probably why it looks "smushed" together

#2, so far every old school arcade game has that screen sizing option.. I don't like the default setting either.

This amazed me too; why wouldn't these XBLA titles be made to look good on HDTVs? So with adjusting the settings can this go full screen and look decent?

We are talking about aspect ratio. A common problem as old 4:3 media is displayed on 16x9 screens is that the image is stretched to fit the widescreen, completely distorting the image geometry.

Not only that, but (if I'm not mistaken) Frogger used a vertically oriented screen. So, in this case it's actually stretching a 3:4 image.

Lots of old arcade games (Galaga, Frogger, Pac-Man, tons of shooters) used vertical screens so, don't be surprised if this problem pops up again.

no we are not talking aspect ratio. I have a 32 inch widescreen lcd tv. Playing my 360 at 1080i (for geowars) .

when i ppopped frogger it looked tiny and squished. In the game options menu (not the 360 video settings) there was an optiion to blow up the image . When i did this . It actually looked pretty good, except the borders on the left & right side.

So maybe by tring this you can get a better picture quality

It's still baffling that these titles aren't released to look good on HDTVs; the whole platform behind the beloved 360 experience.

The screenshot for this article is the original arcade game. The graphics for the Xbox 360 Live Arcade version are slightly different, and can be found at these links

@12

Why would you play at 1080i for ANY video game? Don't you know the "i" means "interlaced"? That means you're only getting 540 lines of resolution, as opposed to 720 lines of resolution in 720p (progressive scan). ALL games look better in 720p. This isn't like a computer where the bigger number is better. In HD monitors, the best choice is the progressive scan choice. Interlaced causes ghosting and doesn't handle fast action very well.

Switch it to 720p. The only reason to have 1080i (or 1080p, should it ever be available) is if your monitor is over 60" and you've got AMAZING eyesight.

It never ceases to amaze me that people are buying expensive, brand new game machines to play cheap, old games. No wonder everybody is going ape over Wii.

New systems are for new games, thank you. If I want to play Frogger, I'll look for a clone made in Flash, which I can play for free. More realisticly, you'll find me playing GT Legends.
