Random off-topic question, someone help please:

Just got an Xbox 360 yesterday cause my PS2 finally died again. Too lazy to look this up myself. Do I need a Gold account to play GRAW online. I don't care about any rankings or anything, just want to play. Will Silver do that for me?

Also, do I need Gold to download demos, extra content, retro/indie games, etc?

$10-15 is not that much for a gamedownload as sweet as SF. People love to complain no matter what the pricepoint. If $10 is too high dont buy it and shut up. SF when it originally came out was about $70. It costs money to convert a game over to XBLA and the people who do the work must get paid also. The kind of thinking that feels that it should only cost $2 is the same reason why most US companies outsource work to India and other areas. If people want better games and lower prices, dont try to cheat and emulate stuff for free, spend money and actually invest in the platform and is development. Losers..

Excellent! I bought 2000 points to use on the Ghost Recon expansion, and have exactly 800 left over for SF II.

Would have preferred that SF II be a bit less pricey, but $10 is no big deal.

50: You do need a Gold account to play GRAW (or any game) online. Silver will allow you to download stuff from Marketplace. Certain downloads require a Gold account, although I can't think of an example. Arcade titles maybe? If you just got your 360, you should get a free month of Gold when you sign up for a Live account.

800 for SF2:HF is great.

I was totally expecting the dreaded 1200 pricetag for it since they had to do some modifications to the game for XBL multiplayer and all the new Multiplayer modes.

Also really pleased that we now finallyh ave a firm date.

Wow, 10$ for an old game. Too expensive for me.

I hope Nintendo won't charge 10$ for old games on the Virtual Console. I won't pay more than 5$ for retro titles (including N64). If they cost more I buy the originals used in Japan.
For new content I'd also pay 10$, but Street Fighter... I guess I have 10 different SF games for at least 3 consoles. That should be enough. :)

Keep in mind, for any game released, pricing is up to the publisher. Currently only two games in XBLA are published by Microsoft. Hexic HD which is free with the hard drive, and UNO at $5.

So for games like Street Fighter II, which is published by Capcom, Capcom sets the price charged.

Let's see mmmm.. I get pay 65/h (software developer) I can buy SF 6 1/2 in just one hour. I don't think I have to bitch about 5 bucks as much as most of you. I feel bad for you; so I will play all this games in your memory. I have a tip for some of you; especially for those that don't think ranking, achievements, online multi-player, voice chat is worth $5-$10 bucks. Just download the emulator, or live without it; it is not like you have to have it. Video games are not like food, water or air.

Are people really paying to play UNO on the Xbox 1.5? I mean can't you buy the real card game at Wal-mart for a few dollars?

Derrick: I use my 360 pad for my SNES emulator on my PC, and I actually like it better. The D-pad is alright, but I've mapped the analog stick to the directions and its spot on every time.

The real crime is shelling out $5 to play Pac-Man (released in 1978), which only has ONE maze!

It would be somewhat easier to swallow (albeit, not by much) if it was Ms. Pac-Man - at least we would get some maze variety!

Finally some decent comments near the end here....

Ask yourself this, why do you think it is fine for Nintendo to charge those speculated prices? $10 for SF2 that was exactly the same thing or $5 for an exact copy of the original IS a rip off...or at least a bit spendy. Here is the difference...these games have new programming, updated graphics, new modes with ONLINE capability. Playing SF2 with the virtual quarter system over LIVE and making sure that the netcode works, while adding new gfx etc isn't free. It isn;t the same thing they had lying around.

New code, it costs money!!! Contrast this to the planned NES or SNES emulation...

The 360 has a very solid lineup for this part of it's life cycle. Dead Rising, Gears of War, Saints Row and a host of others are out in the coming months, there is a lot of content on LIVE, most of it free.

Most previous consoles I have bought weren't even a SHADOW of what the 360 has for its first year. Am I the only one who remembers the PS2's first year? Look what came from that crappy start!

I've been thinking about the pricing point of the retro games some more and I'm starting to think that they probably make sense. Look at DVD releases of old movies for instance. They are available on other formats for different types of players and yet many people drop 10 bucks or more to get there hands on these digitally enhanced re-releases of old movies. When you consider that the retro games coming to XBLA are doing something similar, being that they simply enhanced versions of old game, it makes sense to charge what they are given the pricing precendent that has been set for re-releasing old movies.

There's more to just releasing a game and slapping a price on it.

Okay, so the game is completed and released years ago. But now it has to be translated or emulated on new hardware. You have to account for graphics, sound, and gameplay speed. So you high a programmer. Then you decide to add new options or levels or customization. Also added is multiplayer capability. More programming. You have quality testing. You have hosting for the multiplayer capability, which includes hardware, routers, etc. Maybe there's some marketing or advertising-- print, internet, or whatever. The publisher decides to set a price, to recoup costs and hopefully make a profit. They have to pay all the people downstream... plus licensing costs (if any), legal fees, and administrative overhead.

There's gotta be a price point where it simply does not make sense to even make the effort. I'm guessing that's somewhere under $5. Charge too much, and you risk having less overall sales. In the end, you're trying to recoup any sunk costs, plus make a profit.

I havent seen posted in the comments the huge reason why street fighter will sell, the bragging rights.

If you kick much behind at SF, everyone will be able to see it, and fighting games have that machismo stuff going on. If your buddy says he is the best, make him prove it, and the rub his face in the fact he has less wins than you do, etc, etc.

Personally Im not a SF fan, but would like to the other fighting games like Mortal Kombat and Killer Instinct on XBLA.

Yea i see where this going in general...and its rediculous....we have to tell them we dont want this crap...Yea its "only" $5-$10, but what happens when there's over 200 games and you like 50-80 of them....We are being nickel and dimes....the sad thing is some people say "yea it aint that much" Must be the same people thats ok with gas prices.....Oh and nintendo and sony Arent exempt especially NIN...You Know they gonna have the hot games....betta hope they dont charge like 10+ a game....Sony probably wont have that problem as there's wont probablt offer much anyway....they dont even discuss online unless its to mention XBL. So i can see whats really going on there.....

Yes $10 for SF2 is too much considering capcom has released its at least 30 times since SNES and its not even updated...They could have at least polished the graphics or something....Next gen isnt looking so good right now tsk tsk tsk.......

Y'all wanna bitch about a $10 SF2 with online play, and updated graphics?

What about a $29.99 Super Mario Bros. 3 on the Game Boy Advance? Or a $29.99 Metroid on the GBA?
$34.99 for the *NEW* Super Mario Bro

Wishful thinking on your $2-3 NES games on the Virtual Console. Y'all are in for a rude awakening.
Why do you think they are being so quiet on pricing?
I can't wait.
