Garden variety? The core game is 16 years old, cut it some slack :P

Wow. I heard that the maps were unchanged, but man, watching the first cave in 3D is really something. I never finished FF3, so maybe I'll stop, that way this game feels a little newer to me.

Also, I'm intrigued by the changes they're making to the story. Hopefully it's up to FF standards.

Mmmmmmm... tasty. Now if only they will do the same treatment for FF7. I never got to play that one either. (I did borrow it and a PS2 from a friend once, but the disk failed every time I tried to leave the first city)

You're right. Or, you know, they could do both...

I really hope Crono Trigger is on the Wii virtual console.

FF7 has gotten so much treatment that I will smack Squenix if they even hint at another game. It's gettting old.

I would kill for a CT remake, but I doubt the DS could make the whole game 3d.

On an unrelated note, Mischief Makers needs to come to the DS.

Correct me if I am wrong, but the reason it looks so different from Final Fantasy III is... it is. This is tha real Final Fantasy III, the one that did not come out in the US. Our III is the real VI.

Looks interesting, but I would have rather had it on the PSP. No problem, I have a DS as well, but personally I don't think that a FF remake of a game three generations ago needs two screens (I can't imagine Square getting too creative with dual screens on an RPG). Just give me better graphics and sound!

Ah well, back to Chrono Trigger, emulated on my PSP.

Ah, Chrono Trigger! The best SNES game I ever played on my PS2. Well, that or FFVI. Remakes of either game would be pretty neat, but not likely. Still, imagine Chrono Trigger looking like Dragon Quest VIII.

I can't wait for this to get released.. maybe then I will quit playing FF Tactitcs advance on my DS.. There really needs to be more roleplaying games for the DS.. sooo much potential there with the hardware that could be taken advantage of..

I am now a little scared, I can see getting really tired of that battle system real fast, so slow, no flair at all, and the beasts simply fade away, in the old days they would at least crumble or something.

Please tell me this isnt finished, or that you can crank the speed WAAAAAAY up.

@ Pheonix Gamma

I'd go for a Mischief Makers on DS.

Hell, I'd go for a Legend of the Mystical Ninja on DS too.

@Pal

Hmmm, I'd have to agree with you on this one even though I'd put DS head and shoulders above PSP in terms of library (of course) This remake really doesn't need two screens unless there is something in there that hasn't been revealed.

But, If Camelot made a Golden Sun sequel for DS, I'd take that before FFIII on PSP and not care one bit.

i still don't understand how someone can stab someone from 10 feet away. would it be that difficult for the characters to run up and hit each other?!

I wish they could go back in time and Unrelease FF8.

I'd like to see a remake of FF6 on the ds with enhanced graphics, but that's not going to happen. Oh well, FF5 and 6 on the GBA will be sweer :)

I'm still praying for Bangai-O on the ds.

Can someone definitively answer this for me... is this "FF III" remake a new version of what the Japanese called FF III or what we in the U.S. were told to call FF III?

/Ashamed I don't know this...

I remember them saying they wanted to make this game completely controllable with the stylus.

I was expecting bigger command box in battle or something.

Teamawesome, this is the Japanese Final Fantasy 3 originally for the Famicom.
FF3 here in the US was Final Fantasy 6 in Japan.

Oh come on! You mean to tell me that even though that this game has made the transition to 3D, they still are lacking the ability to have the character actually run up to the monsters and actually hit it?

The look of the combat in ths game looks severaly outdated by todays standards, which sucks IMHO. I was hoping that they would at least upgraded this when they made the transition from 2D to 3D.

I am clearly not impressed... but this is me.

Looking pretty darned good to me.

The combat, though, looks like it could have used a bit more work. I'd much have preferred the FF7-style "run up and attack" than the old "step forward and swing the sword 20 feet away, yet still hit".

The part where the character looks "up" at the text on the upper screen made me chuckle a bit.

Pheonix Gamma, have you seen the screen shots of the DS Dragon Quest Monsters game? Its full 3D and looks nice. Its reminiscent of DQVIII on PS2. Chrono Trigger could be done in 3D on DS. I'd rather them do it in 2D though...but it can be done.

Excellent preview! I'm sure if they remade FF 4, 5 and 6 for the DS that it would sell well.

Quick question: why wasn't this remade for the PSP, anyway? I'm pretty damn happy because it's for the DS -- which is the only handheld I own other than a Game Boy Pocket -- but I've been curious ever since this was announced. Why DS?

Yeah, I'm flashing my geek badge here, but that's very reminescent of the opening of US FF3. Make all the arguments you want, but those of you that remember US FF3 remember Biggs and Wedge losing Terra down a hole? Where you then fight a basic encounter or 2, and then the first "Boss," a lightning based turtle/whelk where you had to use magic on the soft part of the creature as opposed to the shell?

It's been years since I played it, but it was the first Japanese style RPG I ever played...probably 1993-1994.

Actually, Caldaren, They didn't lose her down a hole. They found an Esper, which killed them, and Terra was rendered uncounsious. The Whelk boss came before that. When she fell down the hole, Lock and the mogles came to rescue her, and Biggs/Wedge had already died. Sorry, I'm a bit of an FF VI nut...

Anyway, FF III is starting to look really good! Can't wait till it comes out!

oh man oh man, i remember FF series became really good at around 2, and VI was so frickin outstanding so im guessing that JAPFF3 will be really good... one thing that really threw me off was that whole FF3 of japan and engrish thing....
im not sure how accurate this article was, but apparently, Squenix (learned it on this thread and i will now and forever call it that) is gonna release every FF game on the ds up to VII (or prior to.... im not sure) but i've read that they WANT to or have plans to do that, and whether its gonna be in 3d (which i hope) or not (which is ok) is still up for questioning.... no news about a CT remake, but THAT WOULD BE FRICKIN SWEEEEEEEET and as for dragon quest..... meh..... and they NEED to release the MOTHER 1+2 for the GBA out in AMERICA!!!!
