Sickening DS Lite stress test vid

Now, you may want to make sure you have a strong stomach before watching this one. For those of us that love our DS Lite like it was a third arm, these hooligans that decided to stress test a DS Lite LCD screen have a video up that will just make you squirm. Apparently, this crew decided to stroll into a local Wal-Mart and squeeze the little guy to see if it'd break under the immense pressure of a gamer's superhuman strength thumbs. Thankfully, the unscientific results are a success and the DS Lite came out alive. Still, there's something about this video that is just utterly disturbing to watch.

I wish PSP's were that unbreakable...
Baboon @ Jul 13th 2006 11:02PM
Ahh, Nintendo. Home of the indestructable electronics.
Which is helpful, I might add, when you have a tendancy to slam them with the door of your car.

HOLY CRAP. WOW.

What is that crunching sound?
Gross!
Petey @ Jul 13th 2006 11:06PM
This is no test, just PSP fanboys trying to ruin a demo DS, he's obviously trying to break it, where I live you can try out a single DS, as soon as they replace the demo model, it is sickeningly scratched... I would have gladly broke this dork fingers... lack of any kind of respect, not to speak of inteligence
Svevan @ Jul 13th 2006 11:07PM
This looks like twisted porn, and feels just as sick.

... you CAN'T try out...
adozeneggsmcgee @ Jul 13th 2006 11:11PM
Nintendo's products have always been amazingly resistant to damage -- my n64 and Gamecube work just fine after taking some nasty falls. My psp, on the other hand, got a starfield of dead pixels after a slight bump. My ps2 gets tons of disk read errors recently, and it's in great condition otherwise. I have no reason to suspect that the Wii will be any different, as well as the fragility of the ps3.
EviLPenguiN @ Jul 13th 2006 11:20PM
yeah okay "Petey", which is why the video's description is
This video was made to show how STRONG the DS LITE LCD is. I was quite suprised. The DS Lite is a very strong system.

Crosswayboy @ Jul 13th 2006 11:28PM
This is just plain disrespectful toward the store this DS was demoed in. Sometimes it scares me how fucking stupid some people can be just because something doesn't belong to them. Why don't you go try that on your own DS Lite instead of being an immature prick to others who might want to use the demo.
Fucking stupid Americans... makes me sick.
Geist @ Jul 13th 2006 11:31PM
Oh god no! Stop! IT HURTS MY EYES! That sickening cracking noise helps none. I just want to smack him away from the poor thing. Cringing is definitely present.
embassy @ Jul 13th 2006 11:37PM
im sure watever dept store they're in has pleny of funds to put up another DS demo if that one breaks...
excuse me for being a little apathetic toward multi-million dollar dept stores.
is it dumb..??...yes.
worth crying over..???...hell no.
Eric @ Jul 13th 2006 11:38PM
Anything that is disrespectful to Wal-Mart's property is just fine and dandy in my eyes.
I am very impressed by the DS Lite's durability, I was rooting for it not to break...hurray Nintendo.
As others have already stated, if this was tried with a PSP, the friggin thing would have broken in two.
Eric @ Jul 13th 2006 11:40PM
Jesus Crosswayboy you are way out of line! If I had the power to give negative stars...
Marc @ Jul 13th 2006 11:43PM
"Fucking stupid Americans... makes me sick."
Whoa! Wait a minute Crosswayboy. Not every American is stupid. Yeah I know we elected Bush, but most of us dodn't want him anymore (which exlains his approval ratings).
This is what I hate. One person ruins other people's (potential) fun.
But just cuz there's one dumbass, doesn't make EVERY American responsible for his stupid actions.
(besides, it's just a machine. It's a fun machine with great games, but a machine nonetheless)
Eric @ Jul 13th 2006 11:46PM
@13: Hoory for stereotyping an entire nation because of a few fucktards. Go be a dick somewhere else.
As far as the video is concerned, I find it hillarious that the guys get pissed that they can't break the screen. You can hear them swearing and trying to figure out how it's not messed up in the background.
araca @ Jul 13th 2006 11:52PM
It's amazing how quickly politics come in these days.
As usual, I agree with Marc. Not all Americans are the 14-and-under Gamefaqs and XBL users you encounter on the internet daily.
Nintendo does makes incredible, yet affordable hardware. My NES actually outlived my N64.
TaiZ @ Jul 13th 2006 11:53PM
That cracking noise wasn't the DS, but the thumbs of the guy trying to break it.
zodzilla @ Jul 13th 2006 11:54PM
To everyone that responded that it's a rich department store's demo model and it doesn't matter if it's broken. I don't care if the DS belongs to the president of nintendo, breaking (or trying to break) other people's stuff is just flat out wrong and if you don't know that then your mothers all brought you up wrong.
That aside, I despise Walmart and show that, not by childishly breaking their stuff, but by not spending a single penny in that godforsaken craphole.

Hahahaha, what else would you expect from a gaming nerd? I found it hilariously funny that this guy couldn't break this cheap piece of molded plastic. This guy should be ashamed of himself, not to mention ruining the demo models for the rest of us. But still, hahaha, how many of us couldn't snap a DS in half?

They should have just bought a new one to break. If they would have broken the one in the store, they would have made them pay more then what teh DS is worth

Ouch.
I bought a DS Lite the other day and I absolutely LOVE it. It puts my old red ds to shame.

DWells55 @ Jul 14th 2006 12:48AM
For all of you saying that doing this isn't bad, learn some respect. Walking into a store with the intent to destroy property is rude and immature. How would any of you like it if I walked into your house and and kept kicking your TV until it broke?
Anyways, Nintendo products are great. My friend had a copy of Goldeneye which had been missing for a few months, and e found it in the back of his freezer. Apparently his younger brother put it there. Worked great. Then there's my little brother's GBA SP. Survived multiple falls onto concrete, even being dropped into a full sink when it was turned on. It shut off immediately, let it dry overnight with the battery out, good as new.

"get outta here with that 5 yr old nick Jr mentality...this is the real world..people instinctly do stupid stuff FAR worse than thumb humping a friggin toy in a dept store.relax."
real world? hah. this is the gist of the problem and this is what zodzilla is having a problem with. Idiot like you populating the real world. Do you even know what the "real world" is like? or are you just using it in an attempt to gain leverage over zodzilla?
the issue he is raising is the increasing lack of ethics and morals people like you have in the world today, where not even the property of others is respected anymore. Walmart maybe evil, but that doesn't in anyway allow you to go destory their property.
"People instinctively do more far worse and more stupid stuff then breaking a DS?" that is true, but again, that is the issue here isn't it? idiots like you who condone such activites and respond only to base instincts are no better then the primal barbarians from the neanderthal ages.
go get some education and learn to type before sputtering such filth.
JAC @ Jul 14th 2006 1:00AM
Damn, some of you people need to calm the f*ck down, I actually thought it was a cool video and now I'm even prouder of my DS Lite.
Like it has been stated previously, it was a wal mart or a target or something like that, so even if it broke it wouldn't affect anyone (and it will break eventually and they have taken this into account); it still doesn't justify their conduct but hell, who hasn't done something ilegal or wrong? you guys are acting like he set the store on fire to see if the DS Lite could withstand it. Just enjoy the video or don't watch it.
Colonel @ Jul 14th 2006 1:13AM
I know why it hurts so much to see for you, Joystiq...because you're all fanboys, Nintendo couldn't get any more positive publicity here (some which they deserve though)...
As much as I hate sony, you really outta give them just a lil slack and stop taking what they say out of context so often. This is coming from someone whos been scorned by a dead-pixeled PSP, a PS2 with the disc read error (i didn't buy another one out of principle) and a low quality sony 5.1 sound system which i bought at a premium over other systems expecting the same quality as their TVs...
I love my 360 and my regualr DS (no way im buying the same console twice just because it's "Lite"), but I couldn't convince myself to buy a Wii tho, not now, not ever if they're going to be sticking with SD visuals and an unattractive control scheme (the novelty of the idea wore off on me), not to mention rehashed franchises with the only spin being the remote. I have a gamecube which i havent turned on since RE4 and even that game broke a pretty long dryspell
im not down for the Wii and im DEFINITELY not down for the PS3
Donutta @ Jul 14th 2006 1:14AM
Believe it or not, you can break the original DS rather easily. My old one (that now belongs to my GF) fell from a shelf a little shorter than my head height and landed on the carpeted floor and broke. The hinge has a small part on the right side that is about quarter of an inch long. That part broke and now the entire screen wobbles and threatens to break off. I'm rather pissed with it (and myself, I guess), because I had to give my brand new Lite to my GF while I figure out how to fix it. Or replace it, I suppose.
Thankfully the Lite's hinge doesn't not have this design flaw(?) and so there's no worry about that happening. But no, Nintendo products aren't invincible.
Fish @ Jul 14th 2006 1:35AM
I mean, stress testing is one thing. I'm all for that, but not when you don't own the item you're stress testing.
I mean, do you think when they do crash tests, they take some random dude's car for it?
Look, Nintendo makes quality products. That's pretty much a fact. I've had more problems with my Playstations than I've ever had with any Nintendo. Same thing with my 360, that thing has frozen up on me so many times. As for the quality or style of games, that's up to the individual to decide if they're superior or not.
This post was about build quality of products, and I really think Nintendo has this category in spades.
Crosswayboy @ Jul 14th 2006 1:43AM
All I'm gonna add is this: I AM an American, and it makes me sad that there are people like this in my own country who like to ruin things for everybody else. I apologize for generalizing, but if you condone this sort of thing maybe you have a few issues of your own you need to work out before you start flaming me for stating my opinion.
Z dog 88 @ Jul 14th 2006 2:11AM
I wouldent be surprised if the psp could take that kind of abuse. Just for the love of all things holy don't drop it! My psp has had a crapload of stuff on it usially when it slides into the bottom of my bag. When the world has fired off all the nukes there will be Cockroaches, Keith Richards, and anything Nintendo.

arbitage..
1st off all..get off your high horse...this is the dam internet...typos are inevitable...
secondly...did i say i condone anything these kids did..??..no...but the fact remains...stuff like that is so trivial that at the end of the day...its just a toy being messed with...who the F cares..??..im not gonna lose sleep over this..and this has no subliminal sociological undertones...its just 2 kids screwing around...so u can quit with all that other BS and save it for a discussion that matters.
lol @ " increasing lack of ethics and morals people like you have in the world today" ..i dont think the KKK had many ethics after hanging my grandfathers and raping my grandmothers and im sure the conquistidors "respected the property " of the natives after pillaging and slaughtering them..but your right...screwing with a toy in a dept. store sure makes those other events seem like childs play..things are sOO much worse (ethically speaking of course) than they were back then...lol..ok.
once again..quit that ethics BS...stop trying to take this to some "next level" ...cuz its not that F'ing serious...
Mark @ Jul 14th 2006 2:16AM
Chuck Norris can break a DS lite touch screen.
Nuff' said.
endust @ Jul 14th 2006 2:34AM
"embassy" : what doesn't seem like anything to you does not represent the rest of the public. you destroy this nds, you take away the chance for someone else to try the console out. so your entire post is meaningless
even if the guy did break the nds, what is that going to prove? no one is going ot exert that much force on the nds in regular use. this sort of action proves nothing, and was a worthless event
araca @ Jul 14th 2006 2:37AM
"..if you condone this sort of thing maybe you have a few issues of your own you need to work out before you start flaming me for stating my opinion."
Well, you can't expect the kindest of responses when your post ends with "Fucking stupid Americans".
And I wasn't condoning anything. This guy is a prick. But he is only doing this to get a response out of people..Hopefully he was captured on a security camera or will one day.
