Those lucky cats at Gamespot recently sat down with EA Canada and had some hands-on time with their newest creation - NHL 07, which is set to launch Sept. 1. One of the biggest hurdles that companies developing games for both handhelds and consoles have traditionally faced is how to get gamers to buy their games on both platforms. EA thinks they may have finally done just that in NHL 07.
EA is banking on the idea of a link capability that will allow gamers who own the PSP and PS2 versions to "synch up their data between the two versions of the game to make sure that wherever they are, they're playing the most 'recent' version of their dynasty season." EA is hoping gamers will play their console version at home, then play the PSP version while their on the go. The obvious question is why would anyone in their right mind do that when they can just play the PSP version at home, too? The PS2 version better be a hell of a lot better to warrant such a purchase.
Also, Gamespot reports EA has done away with the dual-analog shot system (for obvious reasons) and replaced them with the more-traditional controls of the past games. But most importantly, the game seems to run smoothly with clean, crisp graphics and will feature full ad-hoc and infrastructure modes.
