Man, he can't talk about people copying his idea when Guitar Hero was a blatant rip off of the Japanese game.

Thanks for the interview. He mentions that there are several hurdles to clear before people will be able to insert their own music into GH. If you go to http://antonstruyk.com/freetar/. You will see that this hurdle has already been cleared, and people have been doing this for a few weeks already. Just get a PS2 controller adapter and enjoy all of the new songs to play.

I think whoever was doing the interview got confused between patents and trademarks. The news I read said that Konami applied for a trademark covering the use of "Guitar Revolution" in reference to a video game with a guitar controller. That isn't the same as patenting the concept or technology behind combining a video game and a guitar-shaped controller.

The only way Harmonix would get in trouble is if they used the "Guitar Revolution" name in marketing their product - that's all that's protected. Someone could even write a book, say, "The Guitar Revolution: How the Music of the 60s Impacted Public Policy", and they'd be in the clear.

What are you talking about? Blatant ripoff? Okay, for one, the Guitar Hero team actually worked with those same people they "ripped off" from on a different game.

Two, he doesn't care who copied what or whatever so your making a big deal out of nothing. He WANTS people to copy them and everyone has "copied" one another in the game industry.

Three, so Guitar Revolution was copied from Guitar Hero which was copied from Guitar Freaks who copied...Dance Dance Revolution? I dont know but no one really gives a rats @$$ as long it makes a good game, INCLUDING the creators themselves. You might as well call Half-Life a blatant copy of Quake while you're at it.

Those Joystiq shirts are god awful ugly!! I can't belive that was the winning design. Its a nice shade of puke color, with a little bit of baby poop mixed in. Why not simple black shirts with a simple atari joystiq or a simple game pad on them?

Guitar Hero /= cult classic. It's not even close to hitting the cult-classic status. It has a cult following, but for something relatively new, it has not been time-tested enough to be called a classic.

"...a game which is part of a new wave of hyper accessible games that is all about catching the mindset of the mainstream..."

cult clasic /= mainstream. Go wiki it. Having a cult following is so far away from being accepted by the mainsteam that by applying the label to a game that is suppose to "catch the mindset of the mainstream" is both idiotic and a contradiction to what a cult classic truly is.

What about collaboration with the Singstar people so you can have a game that has guitarring and singing at the same time on the same song?
