Madden 07 Hall of Fame edition announced
On August 22, PS2 and Xbox 360 owners will be able to throw down $60 and $70 respectively for a Hall of Fame Edition of Madden 07. For $10 more than the standard editions, EA Sports is offering a John Madden career retrospective, the first season of Madden Nation, and production featurettes with ESPN's Trey Wingo and bands featured in the game's soundtrack. No horse armor?Seriously, what extras would you like to see in this special edition that would justify the extra cash? Some Dallas Cowboy cheerleader or Oakland Raiderette videos might be a step in the right direction.

How about a collection of old-school Maddens games with updated teams and rosters? Kind of like what they did with the 05 Collector's Edition.
Anthony @ Jul 14th 2006 4:05PM
Preety cool I guess. This will be good for the Madden Fanatics out there.
I would like to see some of the retro Maddens included in it.
EA knows that no matter what they add in to it the madded crazys will buy it. I mean they could make no difference between the "better" and "worse" Madden besides slaping a cool sticker on it and people will get it.
I am not getting Madden this year though. It's just the same thing every year and it's been like that since Madden 2001. Sure they may add in one cool feature every year but it's not enough to justify me spending another $50.00 on virtually the same thing from last year.
Night Elve @ Jul 14th 2006 4:07PM
The price would be justify with a new brand and shiny horse armor :D
David @ Jul 14th 2006 4:08PM
Names of players on all the historic teams?
HaloBreaker @ Jul 14th 2006 4:11PM
Tecmo Superbowl H.O.F.E.? =(
Tondog @ Jul 14th 2006 4:13PM
I think HaloBreaker has the best idea yet.
DeddyLüger @ Jul 14th 2006 4:14PM
How about a copy of NFL 2k7. id buy that.
Charli3 @ Jul 14th 2006 4:17PM
I have a 360 and yeah I will be buying Madden 07 but as for $70 for a "Special Edition"???
HEEEELLLLLLLLLLLLLLL NO!
As much as I like NFL football and Madden; a John Madden career retrospective, the first season of Madden Nation, and production featurettes with ESPN's Trey Wingo and bands featured in the game's soundtrack doesn't justify the extra 10 bucks plus tax!
joba @ Jul 14th 2006 4:21PM
Yes!! @ DeddyLuger! Sometimes I dream that NFL 2K7 is available at retail outlets. I would even be happy if its just the NFL 2K5 engine with updated rosters! MS, please make NFL 2K5 back-compat!!! A snowball has a better chance in hell than that happening. :(
DeddyLüger @ Jul 14th 2006 4:21PM
i think i would pay an extra 10 bones to have that crap not included.
SickNic @ Jul 14th 2006 4:23PM
I'd like them to include a coupon for some free pizza so I can throw some Madden parties...
Nate @ Jul 14th 2006 4:31PM
Honestly...
I'd rather have a "game used" jockstrap included than the stuff they're offering for 10 extra bucks.
SymetriX @ Jul 14th 2006 4:32PM
How about just having the next-gen version have maybe... I dunno... at least half of the features of the current-gen versions?
And go easy on the shiney-ness and background-blur this time guys! It's a football jersey not an ice sculpture!
logikil @ Jul 14th 2006 4:39PM
10 bucks more for a game that is almost certainly going to be traded in the following year when the next revision releases? Nah, i'll pass.
Justin @ Jul 14th 2006 4:42PM
Honestly...
I'd pay ten dollars more if McNabb took the dvd and wiped his ass with it, but only if he left brown streak marks on it.
Adriel @ Jul 14th 2006 4:49PM
This might just be a litmus test to see if we'll actually pay $70 for a game.
msdarnell @ Jul 14th 2006 4:50PM
Why don't they have the names of the historic teams anyways?
rhork. @ Jul 14th 2006 4:51PM
... Seriously, how could anyone justify dropping $50 on the Madden games year after year. Now, a $60 and $70 price tag on a *special* edition. If they would try as hard in improving the game as they do in squeezing gamers' wallets dry- we might actually have a decent game here.
$70?! $%@*
Robotic House Plant @ Jul 14th 2006 4:56PM
I hope they improve the gameplay. The last version was just okay.
Being able to play classic Maddens would be really cool.
But, if I had my choice over being able to request any feature, it'd be $10 off! Sigh, I miss the days of 2K Games
blax @ Jul 14th 2006 5:13PM

Jim Giordano @ Jul 14th 2006 5:14PM
It's a licensing thing. The classic team players aren't part of the NFL Player's Assosiation anymore, so they can't be used. I think that's how it is..
jimy @ Jul 14th 2006 5:27PM
I'm just gonna buy the regular $60 one. It is gonna be awesome either way.
cannedsoda @ Jul 14th 2006 5:31PM
How about including Madden versions 92-2005 on extra DVD's? I liked Madden 92 or 93 on Sega where the ambulance would come out and run dudes over for an injured player.
logikil @ Jul 14th 2006 5:40PM
@msdarnell
I think with the historic teams and players, they are no longer covered under licensing by the NFL or NFLPA so in order to use those names legitimately you need to get individual licensing. Team names, so long as they are in existance you dont have to go through the hurdle. So for instance the 85 Bears are able to be called the Bears because they still exist as a franchise. The same holds true for throwback jersey's which is why they are so damn expensive.
devi8i @ Jul 14th 2006 5:48PM
Would someone please explain to me the justifiction for $60 games again. Almost all games released for PC and 360 have a $10 price diifference in favor of the 360 game. I thought XNA with 360 was supposed to reduce costs and time to development.
ciscomancer @ Jul 14th 2006 8:23PM
The extra $10 is for the next-gen experience and the new car smell. Both of which are severely lacking.
Howsabout for the extra coin they put back the features missing since the xbox version of 2006 and give us all the old games as well.
Ian @ Jul 14th 2006 9:10PM
As far as I'm concerned, the last good Madden was 2004. And its probably the last year when I liked EA, too. The 2K series was far better after that and for only 20 bucks, until EA got greedy. But I can't believe that their still charging 50 bucks for last gen games. I thought they lowered their prices to 40 or 30 bucks.
Doc Occ @ Jul 14th 2006 10:32PM
It would be worth it if you peeled off the cover & it said ESPN NFL 2K7.
msdarnell @ Jul 14th 2006 11:43PM
Man, you'd think the NFL would be smarter than when it came to licensing the names out. Is there a good online source for updating those rosters, or would I have to pay Scott Norwood a licensing fee?
Adv2k1 @ Jul 15th 2006 3:03AM
WHat no Wii version Boooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo !! I guess all the innovation is good enough. Maybe with Wii version you get free virtual conslole download of Madden 64 that would be nice, or a demo of madden 07 for ds to play... I want extras too awesome controls is not enough!!! yeah im greedy :-)
cringer8 @ Jul 15th 2006 4:10AM
$10 extra...what would I want for my extra $10...hmmmmm...
A pack of football cards...with a stick of gum inside...extra hard, brittle gum. And maybe a fold-out poster featuring John Madden. That'll do.
Austin @ Jul 17th 2006 12:35PM
The sound track transferable to your harddrive.
UNC_Samurai @ Jul 17th 2006 2:28PM
1: The NFL went to Electronic Arts and offered them an exclusive liscence. While we can blame EA for a lot of things, being the only game in town was not their idea, they just said yes.
2: There will be a Madden for the Wii. Game Informer's July issue has pictures.
3: Madden for the 360 will be the full game this year, but NCAA 07 will suffer form the same development cuts that Madden 06 for the 360 suffered from.
4: If the soundtrack includes a number of NFL Films' classic tracks, then it might be worth it. But not for the gods-awful rock-rap that they normally include. I have seen only one track on a Madden game in the last five years worth listening to (not counting NFL films music), and one Outkast piece doesn't forgive a lot of garbage.
Bryan @ Jul 19th 2006 9:32PM
You think since we have a democracy the government wouldne let madden be the only NFL Football game because then it's a monopoly. As if comcast were the only cable company it's illegal so they should do the same with Video Games and let them bring back the 2k series.
KFig21 @ Jul 20th 2006 5:05PM
If I were a seattle fan i would pay ten bucks to have john madden on the special edition cover and have Sean alexander only half cursed and john madden half cursed since there is a "madden Curse"
E-A-G-L-E-S EAGLES!!
Brian Moon @ Jul 20th 2006 7:04PM
Historic roster names and numbers!!!!!!!!!!
How Did APBA and STRAT-O-MATIC do it?
Tom @ Jul 27th 2006 3:04PM
I have recreated classic teams from the 1967 season (Packers, Cowboys, Raiders, and Rams) using the games editing feature, my knowledge of that season, and statistical information readily available on the Internet. I have also designed 60's style playbooks for these teams. All teams have correct numbers, player sizes, and approximate attributes. I will be doing it with some of the other teams, as well.
Rob @ Aug 15th 2006 3:33PM
NFL 2k7 cant touch madden. Even if Madden is the same every year it is a much better football experience than that crap 2k came out with. I dont know why people like it so much. I played it and its not even reallistic at all.
