Prior to this patch, on a G5, this thing is virtually unplayable. No major problems on my Macbook, but my buddy quickly retired the Civ disk to coaster duty after is G5 had a conniption trying to run it. Sure, the G5 may not be a "gaming super-power" and he should probably just pony up to Windows and be done with it. But the greater point: should companies release, nay -- BE ALLOWED TO RELEASE-- a product, at fifty bones, that is UNPLAYABLE? Even at the recommended specs?
Could Nabisco sell me a Chips-Ahoy, where I could look on the bottom of the box and see "Eating Requirements: Teeth. Mandibles. Stomach. Etc." and then, when I attempt to eat their product, find out that it is made of Ceramic and is 100% UNeatable? I don't think so... and Chips Ahoy are only like four bucks.

I agree... A G5 is a powerful computer, easily able to run games - IF they're written for it. But as the mac gaming market is such an afterthought, many companies seem to throw together a Mac version, and I shouldn't even use the term 'thrown together' as it normally follows the PC release by 6 months or more.
As often mentioned here, the new Intel Macs have both signaled the death nell and the new age for Mac gaming - now you can run Windows, so why should a developer bother with creating a Mac version? Tough call, as I don't really know many people who use their Macs for anything remotely gaming.
I would love some Chip's Ahoy, however.

It's strange that Mac's will be running Windows to play games with Intel CPU's yet consoles are now using G5 type CPU's from IBM for playing games. What makes it even stranger is that Microsoft have brought the two platforms together with the 360 and Vista sharing game development using two entirely different CPU's.
Mind you the 360 is suffering from PC ports just like the Mac did from the PC,ie stuttering frame rates.
I just hope that developers will get better with IBM code now that all three consoles will sport IBM CPU's.
