Rabid dogs feast on innocent electronic devices

Perhaps it's unfair to cast the canine in the role of the profusely slobbering, devil-eyed villain, but the gruesome fate that befell one man's DS Lite (yes, worse than a hinge cracking) certainly makes it seem as if the dog didn't care much for man's best electronic friend. Whether it was jealousy brought on by a cute Nintendogs puppy or simply the realization that glossy white plastic looks extremely delicious, the dog's actions were luckily undone by a call to Nintendo and a $50 repair fee. A few months back, a poor PSP experienced a similar gnashing, having been caught in the drooling mouth of an overly playful puppy. It's a grisly sight and serves as a warning to all those that would leave their precious electronics within jaw's reach. We're curious -- how many of you have come home to realize that your pet has somehow destroyed a piece of your gaming collection? And how many of you wuv your pets regardless of how many times they've chewed on your copy of Dead to Rights?

The best part about this - Nintendo fixed the MAULED DSLite for the same cost they're trying to get people to pay for a cracked hinge.

ahh this reminds me of the time my dog chewed up my copy of wareo ware touched!
there are teeth marks in it all over and it suprisingly still works.

I can't even begin to count how many Xbox controllers I lost to my cat. That guy would chew threw those cords like they were fish-flavored treats dipped in catnip. Thankfully, he hasn't figured out a way to chew threw the wireless connection on my 360 controllers. But I know he is thinking of something and eventually I will have to replace it because he is going to chew right threw the 2.4 gigahertz frequency.

$50 repair? Last time I sent a repair to Nintendo, it was free. What, did he import it?
Anyway, poor DS lite. Looks like it still works though. I would never leave my DS around a dog. Or any other animal.

I have a pet bird, a Weiro exactly, that cost my $50 when I first got him. I thought it was a deal. He has since cost me well over $500 dollars in destroyed electronics. The bastard eats everything, he's terrible destructive, and I recently caught him pulling plaster off a wall. He takes about 30 seconds to render expensive headphones useless, and has destroyed countless mice and keyboards (Little bastard can't hurt my wireless stuff though!) and he shits all over everything.
I still love him, however many times I've had to restrain myself from crushing him after I discover he's chewed through electrical cable and survived, or ripped apart a Magic the Gathering card worth $150...

Notice how the PSP cracked right open, with a clear fault line, but the DS just kinda bent a little. The DS is dog-proof, lol.

I disagree...see my story above. Don't go thinking that this feline is a Sony fanboy bent on destroying all things M$. Back in the day, I was in the process of modding my PS1, and this same cat ate the mod chip right out of the system (I had left it open on the counter overnight), and several other wires that permanently disabled the PS1. So he's probably a Nintendo fanboy, at best; at worst, he was paid by Sony to eat the chip in order to discourage piracy.

Notice the psp doesn't seem to be displaying the screen. I think the dog rendered it nonfunctional.
Nintendo products have demonstrated the capablility of being made into chewtoys as well as bomb targets yet they still work.

I've lost three SNES controllers, one N64 controller, two Gamecube controllers (one, funny enough, was a WaveBird), a PS2 and an Xbox controller each to dogs over the years.
I've had one cat who thought both the cord to the SNES controllers and the rubber-tipped sight on the Super Scope 6 tasted like Friskies, too.
To top it off, my oldest dog, when she was a pup, drug my old Game Boy ("The Brick," we called it) out into the backyard, but did not chew it up. She was content enough that it would be left back there in the rain and mud for three days before it was eventually found. In respect to whether it still fuctioned or not, I think you already know the answer to that. It was a damned brick, for crissakes.
If only the DS Lite were so sturdy.

I have made it pretty clear to my cats that if they even LOOK at my electronics the wrong way I will euthanize them forthwith. It has nothing to do with cost of replacement, it’s more about principle. In my relationship I have laid claim to very few possessions. I will not have them trivialized by an animal whose poop I scoop on a daily basis.
Oh, and I would never PAY to have my cats killed off; I would much rather handle that task myself for free (that’s what balconies are for).

My original copy of Breath of Fire III got eaten by one of my dogs. By eaten, I mean he actually digested it...
Another dog chewed through the cord on the in-line volume controller on my PSP as well.

My friend's dog broke my PSP's analogue nub, the dog was a small pup though so didn't do that much damage and Sony generously replaced the unit, which allowed me to reinstate my belief that Sony warrants good care to it's customers purchases.
As for the pictured PSP, its finished, you cant replace that, its destroyed, I was lucky mine had sticking buttons so it had a good reason aside to be replaced.

My old MadCatz (ironic name) PS2 memory card was chewed to hell and back by my dog. The thing still works perfectly, but I still get weird looks when I shove a mangled piece of green plastic in the memory card port.

A PS2 controller of Mine has been eaten by a dog (not mine), it still works but using the analogue controller is very painful so I rarely play multiplayer games.

i once had cat chew through 3 N64 controlers right after the other. i think he hated me, considering he chewed the ones in ports 1,2, and 4. the one in port 3 was my friends which he didn't even touch.

Notice the DS is still working. Its STILL WORKING. That is fucking amazing to me. Just amazing. And look how mauled the DS is. It looks like it was super easy to chew, but the PSP had to be bitten hard at, and then it broke like a brittle thing. And have you noticed that the clear plastic coating mentioned as being on DSlite and similarly on the PSP seems to be making them chewable like that. There aren't reports of old DS's being chewed. But the SP of earlier was probably just asking for it.

My dog once burried one of my SNES games, StarWing (known as StarFox in the US). I had no idea what had happened to the game untill about a year later I spotted a familiar bit of grey plastic sticking out from the earth. I dug it out gave it a quick clean and stuck it back in the Snes. Amazingly it still worked just the same as the day I bought it. To this day it still works perfectly, or at least it was still working when I flogged it on Ebay last week.

My dog had a pee on on my brothers gamecube. It still worked perfectly fine afterwards but we got it replaced anyway, once you switched it on, the insides would heat up and the smell of warm pee filled the room

One of my dogs once chewed up my copy of Final Fantasy Legend for the original Game Boy. It worked just fine, although I had to whittle off a couple of stray pieces of plastic that the dog had left that bent in places that kept the cart from going in the machine.
Beyond that, I've been lucky with pets and consoles. My cats used to regularly try to bat the controller out of my hands while playing if they wanted attention, but they left them alone when I wasn't playing.
Though I still find orange cat hair in my NES from a cat I owned 9 years ago... I'm fairly certain that isn't helping the system any.

Sony charges you $125 just to look at something. So how much did the psp repair cost, or was it more cost effective to just buy a new one.

You can't blame the animals. They don't have thumbs to play games with. They are just frustrated at not being gamers. The cats do try to swat at people on BF2 though.

For some reason my mutt has a penchant for xbox headsets (I've gone through 3), glasses (2 pair so far), cell phone AC changers (that are still plugged in) and USB cables.

If you don't mind smelling it for a while afterwards, putting a bit of Tabasco sauce on the casing of your systems (or on the wires) will definitely discourage pets from chewing on them.
However, if your problem is birds, you have to find something with artificial grape flavoring (seriously).

I want to know if Sony was as kind to the person who had their PSP chewed up or if they required the person to pay full price for a replacement...
Considering how the UMD format was killed off so soon I am thinking Sony told the person to pay full price for a replacement.
