Xbox Live addicts able to get quick fix again
If you've become hopelessly addicted to checking your Xbox Live friends list, Major Nelson sends word that the joint functionality with MSN Messenger is back up and running after months of a whole lotta nada. For those who have yet to test this out, apparently gamers are able to check on a friend to see what he or she is playing and also easily link to said friend's gamer profile. Does anyone have a clue as to why there was a 14-month layoff to begin with?[Thanks, Steve]

Sweet! Does this mean phone pages are back too?

I'm pretty sure that I read/heard that they had to completely rebuild the service from the ground up, joing the two completely different networks when they built Xbox Live 2.0. I wish they would spend there manpower on BackCompat, not this stupid shit!

Shaymus22,
Are you prepared to fortify your claims and protect the sanctity of your knighthood by slaying this foul beast?
...
Seriously though, couldn't you have just called him an asshole? It would have much better represented your annoyance.

Congradulations corwin, you are the worst troll in history. :D
On topic, this is an interesting idea, and if I ever actually get X-BOx live this might come in handy. :P

The messenger and passport people changed their protocols and at the same time, xbox's back end was being rebuilt, so they got out of sync.
There was a period of time when you couldn't even log in properly to xbox.com with passport.

Well this is somewhat of an explaination of why "Windows Live" is plastered all over MSN

It's been announced that MSN messenger would become Windows live for almost 6 months now.

I am guessing it doesnt work with the Mac version of MSN Messenger.
It really is the most awful messaging programs out there. Especially on the Mac, so many nasty cheap bits on it. Why does it tell me the last time I recieved a message along the bottom, down to the date? What, so I am menat to be on MSN for days on end? In case I go insane it reminds me that the last message was recieved on July 12th, its now July 16th.
MSN - "Your life is like a criminal, indoors and no friends"
Yea, anyway, guess those for whom it works should be enjoying it!

They should just port XFire onto XBox. Save everyone a lot of money :)

Gareth,
I quite like messenger for mac. No adverts! But now you can use yahoo messenger to chat to people on msn

This live tab on messenger is pretty cool. Not absolutely needed by any means, but certainly it's the little things that come together that help make live so much better. I finally customized the live.com page and the google page for comparison... interesting results.
marcin @ Jul 18th 2006 9:04AM
no, cause xbox live is better than xfire.
Dubb @ Jul 18th 2006 10:14AM
Does anyone know if you can send messages from a XP machine with MSN to someone on XBox Live or can you only check on their score and accomplishments?
Trachalio @ Jul 18th 2006 11:47AM
No mac support AND no Canada support. Very, very, lame.

Windows Live messenger + http://apatch.ikhost.com/ = best ever. I have all ads removed, tons of useless buttons and more. I also have my tabs removed (and im not bringing them back), + im from Canada, so I dont care about this feature.
But I can understand why some people dont like MSN because its so cluttered and ugly. But once you use apatch, you can make it into a small cleancut messenger
