Square Enix has posted a statement on its website, rejecting Nikkei Net's report that the RPG vet has revealed its upcoming MMO as the sequel to Final Fantasy XI Online. While Square Enix does not outright deny that its project is FFXI-2, the company states clearly that it "did not make such an announcement [about FFXI-2] and has not made any decisions resembling those detailed in the media report."The statement reconfirms that Square Enix is developing a new MMORPG, as was announced in May 2005, but adds that specific details, including the game's platform(s), are still pending.
[Thanks, mathew]

That is a pretty clear denial to me.

The confusion would have been justified a few years ago when discussing FFX part 2, but now most people understand the SquareEnix don't care about numbering.
I hope SE drops the whole numbering thing altogether and just sticks with subtitles. Fabulla Nova Crystalis seems like a nice start. Though, when they have 3 games in one sub-series, it's hard to keep them all straight.

Fantasy Earth: Ring of Dominion was released in Japan for PCs on Feb. 2006. There seems to be a North American import community brewing though.

I love ffxi, but i'm tired of looking at 6 year old graphics, and STILL getting a good amount of lag. I hope the next one is graphic-oriented and not held back by stupid consoles.
