Square Enix won't confirm Final Fantasy XI-2
Square Enix has posted a statement on its website, rejecting Nikkei Net's report that the RPG vet has revealed its upcoming MMO as the sequel to Final Fantasy XI Online. While Square Enix does not outright deny that its project is FFXI-2, the company states clearly that it "did not make such an announcement [about FFXI-2] and has not made any decisions resembling those detailed in the media report."The statement reconfirms that Square Enix is developing a new MMORPG, as was announced in May 2005, but adds that specific details, including the game's platform(s), are still pending.
[Thanks, mathew]

They won't confirm the game because it doesn't exist.
"The Company did not make such an announcement and has not made any decisions resembling those detailed in the media report."
That is a pretty clear denial to me.

Everyone already knows they are working on a new MMO. Who cares what they call it? Since FFXI was their first shot at a MMO hopefully they walked away with some experience and bring something better to the table.

What Square-Enix games do you guys want to see in a MMO world?
Dragon Quest, Parasite Eve, Grandia, Front Mission, Actraiser, Kingdom Hearts, Chocobo dungeon/racer/land, Saga, Ehrgeiz, Star Ocean, Mana?

I think they don't know what content they will use the gameplay to communicate. I think they have a gameplay engine for the MMO, but I don't think they know what stories, characters, and world they will use. Honestly, I think they're still in concept stage for a lot of things, and it could tilt to any franchise. Final Fantasy is likely though, and I doubt it would be something else, even if they have other franchises to choose from.

This may be just me, but I want to see a Rad Racer MMO.

I thought after 11 came 12, not 11 2...... Is there even a such thing? A sequel's sequel? Wouldn't a sequel's sequel just be a sequel? So shouldn't it be 12? Not 11 2?
Probot @ Jul 18th 2006 3:29PM
@Jimmay,
The confusion would have been justified a few years ago when discussing FFX part 2, but now most people understand the SquareEnix don't care about numbering.
I hope SE drops the whole numbering thing altogether and just sticks with subtitles. Fabulla Nova Crystalis seems like a nice start. Though, when they have 3 games in one sub-series, it's hard to keep them all straight.

Fantasy Earth: Ring of Dominion was released in Japan for PCs on Feb. 2006. There seems to be a North American import community brewing though.

Didn't they make a similar announcement when word got out that FFXIII would be at E3 06? And, well, it was there.

I was at the FFXI fan festival at the Santa Monica Pier in March. I am pretty sure that that was the game that this article is referencing. They announced then that they (the FFXI dev team) were making a new MMORPG and that it would be released after Windows Vista and would really be compatible with that. I assume that this also means that the 360 will get it. There were no other details given besides the pics. As, I am not a professional photographer I do not have any pics. Though, as an avid FFXI player (I got a 360 so I could play FFXI in HD) I did note that the world looked like an evolved, futuristic version of Vana'diel. I can only hope that this will really turn out to be FFXI-2.

Kingdom Hearts Online PLZ.... jk. well, i dunno.
I love ffxi, but i'm tired of looking at 6 year old graphics, and STILL getting a good amount of lag. I hope the next one is graphic-oriented and not held back by stupid consoles.
