A Cartoon Network MMO for Spring 2008
Cartoon Network is bringing its IPs into the online world with its own MMO title. Developed by Seoul-based Grigon Entertainment (Seal Online), the game is confirmed to feature characters from Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends, Ben 10, and Kids Next Door. The game will be free to download, but subscriptions and micro-transactions will be "available to players to enhance the gaming experience." Cartoon Network will launch the title, it hopes, in Spring of 2008.This deal is smart for both companies: Cartoon Network gets an established developer to create a franchise title that may actually be fun, while Grigon Entertainment will get some exposure in the United States -- a market in which Grigon currently has no presence.
If this works out, how about someone make an Adult Swim MMOG? It'd be great, where you could make your own food-related avatar and have Brock teach you 3 million ways to kill a 12 oz. mouse.

If Adult Swim really is incorporated, I might just get into this mmog.

Don't you dare diss 12 Oz Mouse. Instead you should have said kill Inuyasha and Ed Elric.
MIKEAWESOME @ Jul 19th 2006 2:12PM
I would kill for a bit of the Venture Bros. in there.
Ian Gibson @ Jul 19th 2006 2:13PM
i've got 10 bucks that this is going to be a shitty game
Deuce @ Jul 19th 2006 2:20PM
I think it would be more appropriate if they let you kill the people who made 12 oz. Mouse
Dracula Jones @ Jul 19th 2006 2:22PM
I'd rather Brak teach me 3 million songs about a 12 oz. mouse.
chris @ Jul 19th 2006 2:24PM
I would love to kill 12 oz. Mouse, along with Squidbillies, Perfect Hair Forever, Super Milk Chan, the last season of ATHF, and most episodes of Tom Goes to the Mayor.

Samurai Jack VS. Mojo Jojo!

Amen Chris, although no ATHF can be bad in my eyes.
I got a fever and the only prescription is more Mooninites.
DarkX @ Jul 19th 2006 2:57PM
Hey, we'll have none of that TGttM hate around here.
Naryx @ Jul 19th 2006 2:57PM
Cartoon Network.... Not really my favorite channel any more. And oh god is Adult Swim nowadays terrible. Really, Pee Wee's Playhouse on an adult block of a CARTOON channel? Inuyasha has been going on for years without any story progression and all new Williams Street made cartoons are worse than the public access Dungeons and Dragons shows.
alienclay @ Jul 19th 2006 3:00PM
they should release the moonmaster game to the public first so they can see how hard it is.
GSI @ Jul 19th 2006 3:07PM
Oh...just what we need...another MMO.

I don't know about all the other episodes... but the first TGttM episode with Jack Black was hillarious.
Baboon @ Jul 19th 2006 3:21PM
That being said though, the only Cartoon Network Original that I am really interested in any more would be Robot chicken.

"no ATHF can be bad in my eyes."
I used to think that too, until I saw "Hypno-Germ".
Myself, I can't stand 12 Oz. Mouse, Squidbillies, Perfect Hair Forever, or Minoriteam. But I'm sure each of those shows has fans who rabidly defend them, whilst hating on shows I like such as Robot Chicken and Super Milk Chan.
Takes all kinds, I guess.
KilgoreTrout XL @ Jul 19th 2006 4:00PM
Hypno-germ is an often bashed, but widely misunderstood, ATHF episode.
What either eludes people, or what people don't notice about it, is that it's really, REALLY, fucking funny. Especially the red beam sight on the murdering bean's glock.
"I AM"
"Sofa King"
"We Todd Ed."
one last one.
"this is all too busy!"

Fie! I am a concerned internet web surfer, and I am very upset about cartoons! These cartoons are ruining my life! FIE! FIE ON YE, CARTOONS!

Heh, worth noting that nobody wants to actually discuss the daytime CN lineup, which is what the MMO will likely center around.
I'll admit to liking Code Name: Kids Next Door and Ben 10 (the latter has really picked up as they've started actually advancing a storyline much more). However, Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends is like Cartoon Network is asking me to change the channel, My Gym Partner's A Monkey is utterly forgettable, Hi Hi Puffy Ami Yumi somehow manages to make Pink Lady & Jeff look good, The Grim Adventures of Billy & Mandy disgusts me, and the less said about Ed, Edd, & Eddy, the better.
It's not that Cartoon Network hasn't had good original shows, it's just that they usually don't pick up as well (Megas XLR is golden, Whatever Happened To Robot Jones was classic, and I have a soft spot for Sheep In The City). It'll probably do well and be boring as all heck.
As for Adult Swim... what, no love for Harvey Birdman? It's like pure, lawyerly goodness.... in my pants.

32_Footsteps, I'll take the case!
A lot of CN's newer stuff has been... mediocre, at best. I haven't watched much of Ben 10, so I really can't comment on that.
Personally, I like Ed, Edd, 'n Eddy. At least, the older stuff. The newer episodes (which have them going to school and junk) just don't seem as good as the older ones.
Billy & Mandy... The pilot was great. The series... has had its moments. But I liked the former other half of the time slot (Evil Con Carne) more.
And all the other junk... is just meh.
Powerpuff Girls used to be pretty good. Then came the movie, and I think it went downhill from there.
Funny thing is, I noticed that with Dexter's Lab as well. After the mini-movie (Ego Trip, which was awesome), the series took a nose dive (from the overhaul in the art style, the change in Dexter's VA, and overall being less funny than the older eps).
Johnny Bravo was good stuff. Mostly, anyways.
Cow & Chicken/I.M. Weasel were also great.
Courage the Cowardly Dog was a show I wished didn't die.
Samurai Jack and MEGAS XLR were GREAT and I can't fathom why they would let such great shows die like they did.
Seems that CN lets all the good shows die off, while they keep on pumping out the crap (Kids Next Door).
An MMO based on [adult swim] would be great, if it included ALL of the properties shown on [as] (including the anime... but maybe not Saved by the Bell). If it was an Smash Bros. or Jump Superstars kind of game, it'd be the best thing ever.

Earlier thinly veiled swipe at all those flaming one another over cartoons aside, I think the Cartoon Cartoon lineup has a few things going for it. I've always loved the absurdity of Ed, Edd, and Eddy (It's my dream come true.. I AM BUTTERED TOAST!). The Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy.. I'm not capable of disliking any cartoon that so often refers to Lovecraft and 80's kitsch. Codename etc etc.. not a big fan, but they did a musical episode and used Gwar as the music.. Gwar. Yes. Awesome. Some of these newer things.. Ben 10, Totally Spies, etc.. I could do without. But they do alright with the comedies.

What really interests me is the inevitable player creation aspect... I wonder if we'll be able to create characters in the same style as our favorite shows. For example, I would have a blue and white Tom Goes To The Mayor style avatar, while somebody else may choose to make a food character like ATHF, or a big eyed cat demon :|
Very interesting.
