When I first saw the screens of The Godfather, I was very impressed. Although the game was met with tepid reviews, Electronic Arts really captured the look of Marlon Brando. Now, EA is hoping to improve upon the franchise when they release The Godfather: Mob Wars. AMN was able to sit down and have a go at EA's next venture into the mob world.
Apparently, EA is taking a page from Konami's book, because Mob Wars is a mixture of card-based strategy and action game, somewhat similar to the Metal Gear Acid franchise. However, like in the previous game, players will control a Corleone family member and will attempt to control as much territory as possible.
In the game, players will accumulate money to hire goons to protect neighborhoods and pay people off. They'll alternate turns, attempting to expand their territory, with the computer-controlled rival families. When players clash with their rivals, the game drops into a classic, third-person action title, allowing the player to take full control of their avatar.
AMN likens the title to Risk and says the game is coming along nicely. Look for it on store shelves come September.
