In case you missed it from a week ago, Sega-16 has an in-depth interview with former Sega of America president Tom Kalinske. Leading Sonic & Co. circa 1990-1996, Kalinske hasn't spoken out about his tenure since he left the company in 1996. From the interview: "Though there are many factors that contributed to Sega's success during the 16-bit era, no one can deny Kalinske's influence. Everything from advertising to R&D had his stamp, and so successful was the American branch's tactics, that they actually incurred the wrath of Sega of Japan!"In addition to jealous and offended management from Japan, the interview covers a once-proposed Sega/Sony console, and the many bad management decisions that ultimately lead to Sega's hardware demise. Kalinske also said it was his team that developed the still memorable Sega Scream, Welcome to the Next Level, and Nintendon't advertising campaigns. So this is the man behind all that virality? Someone get him a job with one of the big three, that is unless he's still selling globes.
[Thanks, Calculoid]
