1 in 5000 is a lot, especially if they all fail the same way. Try getting away with that kinda crap in the auto industry. That would be >1 a week. Now, there are a hell of a lot more DS Lites in one year than any car. It's not the auto industry, but it's still a big time quality issue.

You people can't read.

Nintendo is fixing this for free. Call them. Stop complaining.

This is nothing on the XB360 DVD defects. Who charge you $170 to fix.

So many people don't understand that it has already been reported in other places that Nintendo IS going to fix this for free.

Good point, RickDom. What if the front left fender of every 1 in 5000 Chevrolet Impalas cracked for no apparent reason? Chevy would have hell to pay. There would most likely be a recall (not suggesting that the DS Lite should be recalled.. just saying).

On a side note, I gave in and picked up a DS Lite from Wal-Mart today, along with a new copy of Big Brain Academy. I'm going to give the game, along with my old DS, to my cousin so we can play over WiFi from where I live to where she lives in New York.

I haven't opened my DS Lite yet. It's simply sitting on a pedestal (seriously) in the middle of my room so I can look at it in its shiny mint condition packaging. I think perhaps I should at least take her out to dinner a couple times before I remove her from the box.

What if you send back your DS Lite but have Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection set up for it? Does Nintendo actually give you a new DSL?

I want to ask those who are saying stop complaining, do you actually own a DS that has a crack? It is unsightly, and it bothers me as a consumer who shelled out a lot of money for the device. Complaining on the net gets you results, and I'm glad other people did so. Now that this defect is publicly known, I don't have to go thru much hassel to get my DS fixed for free. So thank you guys for saying no to just taking it up the you-know-what.

Ha ha ha. Some complaints on this subject are so utterly stupid. Hell, most people wouldn't have even recognized the damn imperfection if it wasn't brought up. That being said, it is in a rather insignificant location. Eventually, yes, that crack could become worse. But that's only if it's agitated. It's like making a big deal out of the fact eventually all systems will wear down and be unusable.

It's not like the screen is cracked. Or the games won't work. No. It's a puny little crack. Seriously. And as said, the reason it's a much bigger deal with the other companies is that it interferes, such as scratching discs, breaks down, and so forth. The key difference is, that affects gameplay. A small crack doesn't.

Hey, guys. My copy of Sonic Rush makes clunky sounds when I shake it! I should sue Sonic Team! Let's completely ignore whether it's actually a problem or not! :D

Seriously. If you have such a big problem with such a tiny crack, I'd hate to see your girlfriend's reaction to a larger crack.

i can't believe all of you idiots who are complaining, so its a crack, have you ever cracked or scratched anything and it still works? my old gameboy had a huge chunk of plastic fall off and all i cared about was the gameplay. yea its one thing when a "defective" product affects gameplay and possibly endangers the player. but just a cosmetic flaw thats ridiculous, the PSP had dead pixels that just affects gameplay and gets annoying to look at them, the cooling system on the 360, well yea thats bad because it could possibly burn out your 360 or maybe start a fire, don't get me wrong i'm not a nintendo only fanboy, i support microsoft more than sony, and i've never had a problem with my 360 except that it froze once, i bought my 360 opening day, yea they scratched discs but only when dumbass moved it from a vertical to horizontal position while the disc was spinning. If you're not endangered of being shocked, and if the game looks perfectly fine, then shut your mouth and game on for christs sake, Nintendo has always made top quality products that could withstand the harshest conditions ever. I've dropped my gameboy hundreds of times, i've left my rumble pack for the 64 out in the snow, games have been dropped i've stepped on my 64 and tripped on my gamecube and they all still work perfectly, well the rumble pack needed new batteries but the snow didn't do that. If theres a defect that is really serious then nintendo will do the right thing, but a small unnoticable crack that you have to look for to find, cmon people this is why gaming is dieing, everything has to be perfect and to the extreme, when was the last time you sony or microsoft fanboys had fun jumping on goombas or maybed fighting foot soldiers. and FFXII OMFGROFLBBQTTYLATOR try a little game called chrono trigger, it'll probably kick ffxii's ass

Dude... WTF? Man, seriously are you some kind of idiot or something. Wouldn't a class action suit need to have some backing, like say "this product harmed a bunch of people" or "this defect depreciated the value on my item" or something. AS it is, this crack does neither. It has no negative effect on anything, other than it's a crack, and some may deem it as ugly. Oh noes! A mass-produced product MAY be ugly to some. Like THAT'S never happened before.
But you go ahead, rally your lawyers, and defend your sense of aesthetics.
