Square Enix likely to introduce achievement incentives into FFXI on Xbox 360

According to GalbadiaX.com, the next update of Final Fantasy XI for Xbox 360 could introduce gamerscore points into the aging MMORPG. To date, FFXI is the only 360 title without points, which, technically, Microsoft requires publishers to include in Xbox 360 games, dispersed throughout at least five game-related achievements.
If you view Final Fantasy XI details on an Xbox 360 gamercard, you'll notice that the game has been updated with 32 "secret" achievements. However, these achievements are not yet active, but are speculated to become fully integrated with the next FFXI update, which will also include changes to Besieged and chocobo breeding.

As much as I like FF11, it is a desperate attempt to try to get more people to the game. But, hey, it could be a game where trying to boost for achievements is actually kind of required.

James, you're incorrect. The July 24th patch, though previously scheduled to contain the much-hyped chocobo breeding program, will instead forego said chicken racing and focus on new HNMs and BC battles in Treasures of Aht Urghan areas...as well as nerfing Black Mages. For more info:

i dont think that ffxi (as a community) cares for something like achievement points lol. the achievements in ffxi are far beyond an achievement system like xbl anyway. maybe only a few that just started playing. the core ffxi community doesnt play anything else on there xbox 360 anyway just as the core xbox 360 players dont play ffxi.
lets go care about merit points ;)

People actually play this game? People actually PAY to play this game?
Yikes. I guess there's a market for everything.

"People actually play this game? People actually PAY to play this game?"
Ignorance is bliss, isn't it? It certainly depends on the player, but many, including myself, consider FFXI far superior to the much-lauded WoW. And yes, I've played both.

6. Yeah i guess you are right.
- WoW is cool.
- Guild Wars is great.
- CoH is awesome.
- CoV is awesome too.
But as much as i love Final Fantasy Games; FF 11 is pretty boring.

I have a coworker who bought his 360 just to play FFXI in hidef.

I can't believe they are actually going to implement achievements in this game. As soon as I sign in I should get some free gamerscore because I did a couple things that warrants achievement. There is so much content in this game that I can't see how they hand picked 32 of the possible hundreds.

I will laugh if each achievement requires taking down an HNM. And for the FFXI bashers, go procreate with yourselves. Just like some people like the simpler flow of WoW or CoH/CoV, some people enjoy the complexities of FFXI. Different strokes for different folks.

Wait...achievements?! But I finally cancelled my Content ID after 40+ x 24 hours...

An achievement should be rewarded simply for having the patience to make it through the tedious install process.

How does this comment warrant 7 stars?? Yes people pay to play this game because they enjoy it, people aren't the suckers everyone seems to take them for believing they need to see the light, people CHOOSE to play this game because they enjoy it, people who don't, well don't.
As for the story rather than stupid pointless game bashing, the idea of achievments is novel, but I don't really see the point, its hardly the usual type of game on the 360, however I'm still intrigued to see what they have decided warrant achievements...

FFXI is one of the most popular MMORPGs of all time. Considering the steady flow of noobs into the game, I don't think they are "desperate" for new players.
In fact, almost all of the players who started the game when I did are still playing. That's a pretty good retention rate considering I've been on for more than 2 years.
Perhaps one of the best aspects of FFXI is the server stability. It's extremely rare for FFXI to be down for maintenance (usually only for major upgrades) and when there is a problem it's usually only one area of the game that becomes inaccessible (again, very rare). I can't say the same for other MMORPGs.
