Some next gen Star Wars love

The Star Wars franchise and video games are BFF to the extreme, so it's no surprise that we should all be treated with some next-gen geeked-out love from the LucasArts crew. There's a nice little tech demo up on YouTube showcasing just what we can expect come this generation of Star Wars games. Check out the kick ass force powers and destruction. Makes you tingle inside, doesn't it? If it doesn't, check your pulse.

Preety but where's the next KOTOR god damn it.
SKM @ Jul 23rd 2006 4:40PM
If we don't get a Star Wars Light-sabre combat game on the Wii, that will be one major missed opportunity.
Obvious, yes. but i feel it needs to be said.
Ninegauger @ Jul 23rd 2006 4:41PM
If it's like Psi-Ops that would be sweet... as long as they don't let Lucas near it. Heck just get the Psi-Ops guys to do it, replace Pyrokinesis with Lightning. Done and done.
Sometimes people get angry when different people continue series without the original creator (Dune, Terminator) but Star Wars is a great example of the original creator ruining it all by himself. Sorry, I have to say that everytime I talk about Star Wars now.
Janu5 @ Jul 23rd 2006 4:41PM
.....The end is just wrong...
angusm @ Jul 23rd 2006 5:02PM
if by wrong you mean rad, then yes, yes it is
Zdog88 @ Jul 23rd 2006 5:09PM
If this is what the next starwars battlefield will look like I am sold!
Brandon @ Jul 23rd 2006 5:12PM
Is this suppose to be a tech demo for the new star wars game for the 360 (current working title is starwars 2007)?
Vandor @ Jul 23rd 2006 5:13PM
I would love next-gen graphics in the next jedi-knight game.
But I would also love the use of force powers with hand gestures on the Wii. Throwing things with the wii-mote should be fun.
Armaan @ Jul 23rd 2006 5:21PM
My pulse must not be working, because that didn't get me excited at all. Seemed very tame and pedestrian, nothing to get excited over. The last part with the TIE Fighter being destroyed was cool, but does anyone seriously expect to be able to do that as part of the regular gameplay in the next Star Wars game?
Ultimatallica @ Jul 23rd 2006 5:30PM
These demos kind of piss me off. If it was a demo like they showed of HL2 with the physics, okay, fine, that's cool. But showing CGI, or animations in an extremely controlled state is extremely useless. Destroying a TIE with some pieces of metal you can pick up? Not happening. This isn't next gen, not until they actually have this up in running in a game. Until then it's just a target video.
Roll out a next gen Jedi Outcast and I'll preorder it in a second.
Bluntzman @ Jul 23rd 2006 5:39PM
Okay, the first 3 scenes looked like in-game graphics. The last 2 (force lightning, throwing the guy into the tie fighter) were just CGI scenes to get the fanboys excited. The only Star Wars game I'd be interested in anyway is the next KotoR.
I also agree with Ninegauger's suggestion of keeping Lucas away from any new Star Wars games.
Johnny Bloom @ Jul 23rd 2006 5:44PM
It may be CGI, but it is bitchin'.
Jedimonkey27 @ Jul 23rd 2006 5:49PM
This is from the Star Wars Fan Club and it is not supposed to be in-game. This is completely CG and does not actually reflect what the game will actually look like. This is just a proof of concept pre-visualization of the next big Star Wars game that is being made. It takes place between Episodes III and IV.
KawF @ Jul 23rd 2006 6:10PM
I heard from a trusted source that this video is in fact realtime, in-engine, in-game, gameplay footage from the Xbox 360. You can believe me if you want to, but I trust this source fully!
RP @ Jul 23rd 2006 6:17PM
"I heard from a trusted source that this video is in fact realtime, in-engine, in-game, gameplay footage from the Xbox 360. You can believe me if you want to, but I trust this source fully!"
I trust the video, which funnily enough states that it's pre-vis footage.

I hope that isn't true. Because I wanna do force powers on Wii, please!
Leo @ Jul 23rd 2006 6:40PM
I'm going to say it's amazingly good looking but I would prefer to see this applied in real gameplay footage. I'm sorry Lucas but pre-rendered footage isn't gonna keep me hyped 4ever.
The ZeroCorpse @ Jul 23rd 2006 6:52PM
This looks cool, but the next KOTOR may never come--- They seriously dropped the ball with KOTOR2 by pushing it out the door unfinished and buggy. I won't be buying another KOTOR unless they make it clear that the developers were allowed to FINISH the game to their satisfaction, instead of rushing out out for a holiday season.
Really, KOTOR2 is just depressing and awful once you get past the 3/4 mark in the game. It all falls apart.
Jedimonkey27 @ Jul 23rd 2006 6:55PM
Since some people still don't belierve, here is an excerpt from the Star Wars website:
"As shown at Comic-Con International 2006: pre-rendered, pre-visualization of Force Power use in the upcoming next-gen Star Wars title. Though not actual game-play, this video presented the concept of how the Force could be used in a next generation game."
THE VIGODA @ Jul 23rd 2006 7:01PM
It is actually kind of funny at the end.
Dench @ Jul 23rd 2006 7:02PM
They showed Lucas this to get the game started. Apparently, Lucas approved. It's sad the people take this for real. NONE OF IT IS IN-GAME! The official Star Wars site says it's prerendered. People, don't expect any of this to be in the game, but I guarantee this, the physics will be better than what you saw in this video.
Lee @ Jul 23rd 2006 7:16PM
These guys need to suck it up and re-make/upgrade the best game to ever come out of LucasArts, TIE Fighter. Or at least a decent space shooter based on the old franchise.
N3k74r @ Jul 23rd 2006 11:18PM
There's already a series for this, it's called Jedi Knight.
calthaer. @ Jul 23rd 2006 11:30PM
KOTOR and Lego Star Wars has spoiled me on any other SW game ever. KOTOR was the epitome of what a SW game should be. KOTOR2...the rush job was a disservice. I hope their bottom line reflected that - fools.
I don't care about pushing a few things around with the force - I want to build my own light saber, choose Light / Dark, fight a bunch of other jedi, and have memorable sidekicks.
Dan @ Jul 24th 2006 12:11AM
The force powers make the game look too easy. I want lightsaber battles! That's the important thing, we want epic, cinematic duals. Also, WHEN IS KOTOR III COMING OUT!!! AHH
Yaume @ Jul 24th 2006 3:38AM
Hummm... this video is from the Hyperspace paid section of SW's website, and maybe that video's copyrighted material. Isn't it dangerous to link to copyrighted things, guys?

Star Wars for the Wii.
Wild Homes @ Jul 24th 2006 6:06AM
I don't believe physics get any better than the storm trooper dogpaddling in midair to get his blaster back, even if it is all pre-vis. viva la revolucion!
skooby @ Jul 24th 2006 8:30AM
Stormtroopers suck... With powers like those shown in the video for the jedi, they at least need opponents that can shoot straight. But it is a guilty pleasure force pushing 50 neatly lined-up troopers over a cliff...
dan diemer @ Jul 24th 2006 4:25PM
holy....crap.
flyNN @ Jul 24th 2006 4:51PM
Looks like that PhysX demo ... ULTRA COOL.
Why didn't EIII do more of this force pushing stuff?!?!!
slybri @ Jul 25th 2006 8:40AM
I'm dying for a new Jedi Knight game on the PC using modern physics and graphics. The last Jedi Knight was lame though. Hope they get a good studio to do it.
Simon @ Jul 25th 2006 11:20AM
I want a Star Wars Game with Natural Motion ( http://www.naturalmotion.com/pages/demos.htm ) and the Cell Factor physics. But that wouldn't be nothing without *really* cool lightsaber fights. Jedi Academy was cool, but it's animations just sucked.
And well, if the new Kotor is like the first one, count me in. Kotor 2 was just disappointing.
Rashid @ Jul 27th 2006 1:36AM
"No way you'll be doing that in game"....
If you saw footage of "Prey" and the portals in use, or "Crysis" and the battle with the big alien thingy on the aircraft carrier, or "Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter" with the Phys-X working about 3 years ago no one would have believed those things to be possible. Yet each and every one of them are real.
Of course it is pre-rendered. How that equates to "impossible" for some people is beyond me. Read the IGN article...they are not trying to decieve anyone, this is what they are aiming for and I doubt very much that it won't be fully realized.
Picking up metal and hitting a tie fighter with it seems unlikely to one poster here... well how would you have felt about being able to force push rockets fired from an AT-ST back at it if you saw it 15 years ago? "Impossible" right? Now go play Jedi Knight: Outcast.
For the KOTOR fans, that seem to want to belittle anything that isn't KOTOR 3... why feel threatened? Advances in technology will only be applied to first or third person shooters, right????? Of course not.
E-Frame @ Aug 3rd 2006 7:26PM
The Game will be called Star Wars: Force Unleashed (working title)
Maybe this is the next title in the Jedi Knight series?
