Could someone explain this to me?

"Try to hit his weakpoint for massive damage!" has no meaning for me.

For those of you (like me) who didn't understand the reference, look here

http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=attack+its+weak+point+for+massive+damage&defid=1789652

I know it's trendy to bash the PS3, but making fun of a clueless E3 employee is pretty low.

After doing some more research on this, I take back my comments about "clueless E3 employee" - this was apparently part of their start-of-the-week E3 press conference, and this employee should've known better. It was a canned demonstration, and he made himself (and his company) look like a fool.

That guy didn't sound very smooth, but I don't see what was so hilarious about it... I guess I'm hopelessly clueless.

He's talking about how great the game is:

Battles based on Real Japanese battles,

with Giant enemy crabs!

It was a horible keynote speech and this is just one of the many highlights of it.

"I guess I'm hopelessly clueless."

No, I think you probably just have an actual sense of humor, in that you sensed that there was no humor here. I didn't see what was so funny either.

So a company rep made a mistake at a trade show and a game has a line that makes fun of it? HARDY HAR HAR HAR HAR!!! Milk just came out of my nose from laughing so hard. I'm so cool because I understand all the industry in-jokes!

No, I don't work for Sony.

So, does that mean that ths DS has one of the key features of the PS3; the ability to hit an enemy's weak point for massive damage?

Looks almost like he's writing C up there. You can sort of make out the semicolons and some of the enums.

Have they finally produced an RPG which combines C with attacking for massive damage? Dare I lend my heart to it?

Wow. Way to go, Tomm.

By the time this game gets released that joke's going to be just about as dead as the "Why do they call it a 360 when it's not even round?! LOL!" jokes.

*TIMESTAMP!*

Why not throw in some references to whatever Paris Hilton's done this week, or an American Idol?

Some guys don't ever write lines that are timeless. At least we won't be wondering why Mr. Hulett isn't one of them.

Maybe the joke isn't funny, but the reason we're making fun of it is not because a Sony employee made a mistake.

It's because a presenter for Sony said *exactly what he was supposed to*. This isn't something he made up on the fly. It was scripted. So yes, the game does have *battles based on real battles that took place*. And some of these battles include *giant enemy crabs*. And to defeat said *giant enemy crabs* you need to *attack his weak point for massive damage*, which you can do because the massive power of the PS3 allows *real time weapon switching*.

The reason this is funny is not because this is the stupidity of a single Sony employee. The reason this is funny is because that's the best PR Sony, the kings of hype, could come up with.

Actually, it's funny because it's become widespread on internet forums like GAF.

RandomGuy--you think dropping my name makes you not a flaming hole? C'mon man, grow a sense of humor. It's a side comment in a game that could have easily been "Exploit his weakness!" Except then it wouldn't have been entertaining to anyone would it?

The joke won't get dated, for one main reason: It still functions as a perfectly sarcastic remark if taken out of context.

If you don't get the joke, it seems like it's sincere. It works both as a straight info dump and as a joke, which is really your aim with a topical joke.

Look this is a a joke but it represents everything that is wrong with Sony today.

Sony are such loosers - everything they touch, everything they say has the stinks of poo. Sony has uttered one to many lies and false promises. One to many BS propriatary standards that no one wants or needs. Result: no credibility, no trust, no brand equity. How long will their "partners" share the burden of supporting yet another failed format and a third place console that's costly to produce for?

I don't think they will survive PS3 and Blew ray, honestly.

So how does it finish? When Sony gets split up and the bits that are unsalvageable get shut down, will we remember the management that drove this business into the ground? Will those reckless arrogant idiots feel the same financial pain as shareholders and abandoned customers? No they will jump before the end collision and buy a $40 million ranch somewhere...

I think the funniest part of the line is exactly how he said it. It was as if he just revealed to the world this huge new development in video games that Sony themselves invented in their infinite wisdom: Attack the weak point for massive damage!

It was utterly ridiculous.

My favorite part about real-time weapon change is not that it's such a pedestrian feature that it's not even worth mentioning in a game demonstration.

My favorite part is that it isn't real-time.

In real life, if you were to change a weapon, that would require several seconds to holster your present weapon, reach for another weapon, draw it, etc. The alleged RTWC shown in the game is actually INSTANTANEOUS weapon change -- press a button and there is a flash and the new weapon is already in hand.
