Blizzard and Xfire join forces for "Summer Movie Contest"

If you think you got what it takes to be the next Steven Spielberg of World of Warcraft machinima, then this contest may be for you. Blizzard and Xfire have announced that they are teaming up to give wannabe movie directors a chance to win some dough for their in-game work. Here's what they're looking for and looking to do:
- To take part in the contest you will need to make a movie using Blizzard's World of Warcraft and submit it to one of four categories: Short Film, Comedy, Drama/Action, or Dance/Music Video by Friday, September 15th, 2006. Once we have all the submissions, winners will be decided by Blizzard, Xfire, and a community vote! Each category will have prizes awarded for first through fifth place. Honorable mention prizes will also be given to 10 quality submissions that do not make it into the final round. For more information on the $23,000 of prizes, go to the prizes page.

Ugh. I hate these "voice over some guy moving his avatar up and down" movies because... well... they usually suck ass.
The only one that I could really enjoy was Red vs Blue. All of the others are either too cheesy, too unfunny, too crappy looking, or a combination of all three.
You know why Red vs Blue worked? Because the characters wore helmets. And helmets meant no crappy looking lip synching.

I've seen some kick-ass EverQuest II Machinima on SpikeTV. It's called Medieval Weapon.

It's a shame that the "Internet is for Porn" is so popular considering that it's an audio rip of the comedy/puppet troupe AvenueQ and not original content (except the animation and camera work)
My favorite machinima is "Battlefield2: The pwn3d life".

I've seen the original and the WoW rip off, and it's still pretty darn funny. Anyways, i'm optimistic that we'll see some pretty clever entries.

Xfire ran this contest like 6 or 8 months ago, too. I saw the top couple last time, they were actually pretty good.

"Zinwrath" is a great one that came out of this, as is "Illegal Danish" its sequel. Hopefully, we'll see part 3 from this years festival.

If you havn't seen "Big Blue Dress" I recommend that one. It's pretty awesome and funny at some parts.
