In response to a report from Taiwan that predicts a $100 Xbox 360 price drop this year, Chris Kohler over at uber hip Wired writes: "The best I think anybody could really hope for [is] Christmas. What I think is more likely, though, is the effective elimination of the Core Pack -- they're already hard to find, and Sony's outrageously expensive PS3 has given Microsoft the opportunity to be the low-cost alternative even at $399."Kohler continues his hypothesis by envisioning a single 360 SKU, priced as low as $299, that would include the console, a hard drive, and one wireless controller. The other goodies included in the current Premium pack like component video cables and headset microphones would be nixed making the console all the more affordable, especially when compared to the fine-wine offering of the PS3.
