Nintendo confirms Wi-Fi play for '42 All-Time Classics'
Before you confuse the DS title 42 All-Time Classics for a compilation of Nintendo's best of yesteryear, know that it's merely a collection of popular card, board, and parlor games. Also known as Clubhouse Games (in North America), the latest entry in the 'Touch! Generations' series has finally been confirmed to feature Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection play, with the ability to "PictoChat" in-game. Its bland presentation won't appeal to all gamers, but for anyone who has remote interest in card games (or chess, backgammon, etc.) and also has wi-fi access, 42 All-Time Classics is a must-have.42 All-Time Classics is scheduled for release in Europe on September 29 for an estimated £20. Clubhouse Games will follow in North American on October 9.

This is good news, yet I weep bitterly for the confusion caused by the title. Change it to "Nintendo confirms Wi-Fi play for DS game '42 All-Time Classics'" or something, so we know that "42 All-Time Classics" isn't a Nintendo rep quote or something, as I first believed.

If it has Cribbage I'm buying a DS tomorrow.

If it has Free Cell I'll have to get my mother a DS. She cannot get to sleep at night without her fix.

Laxcat @ Jul 27th 2006 6:28PM
A game like this was one of the first things that popped into my head when I first learned of the DS feature set.
If the game is of significant quality, this could be even more popular than Nintendogs or Brain Age.
Ryan Williams @ Jul 27th 2006 6:34PM
Heh. :(
I predictably got all excited for a moment then about the prospect of wifi Mario Kart: Double Dash and such.
Clearly something that wants implementing.

You had me at "wi-fi bridge".
Lee @ Jul 27th 2006 7:02PM
God-damnit! Only two days ago I spent £12 on Sega Casino for DS, and it's crappy selection of games.
I just got it for Seven card stud and Hold'em wifi, but that only supports 5 players total.
Now I hear about this!?!? Gah, maybe I'll give it to a friend for their birthday... hope they don't spit on it. -_-;
And yeah, I've always thought this would be a great idea, this game needs Battleships! C'mon, the DS was MADE for battleships.
reaper man @ Jul 27th 2006 7:09PM
Im surprised that no one has said reversi... I mean c'mon that's a popular game. :)
32_footsteps @ Jul 27th 2006 7:33PM
But all the hardcore bridge players know that duplicate bridge, not contract bridge, is the way to go.
Interesting to see Nintendo do a hanafuda game within this, since they got their start with hanafuda cards.
Also, given that there's already two different trick-taking games with bidding and trumps, I don't know if they'll make it three by throwing in euchre. But then again, if you've already got both contract bridge and spades, euchre should be easy enough to slip in.
Also, just for curiosity's sake, I must admit some curiosity about finally getting to play shogi.
Finally, the DS goes from multiplayer system to drunken party favor with the addition of President (more popularly known as Asshole where I grew up).

I would make love to my DS if this game included Euchre.
hepme @ Jul 27th 2006 7:51PM
ahhh, chinese checkers. There's a good reason to get it.
Gonna go google Euchre now
striderhayasa @ Jul 27th 2006 8:17PM

Nigeria @ Jul 27th 2006 9:47PM
Is Mario involved
DG @ Jul 27th 2006 10:14PM
Euchre and Cribbage would make me buy this game. Absolutely, yes.
Greg2k @ Jul 27th 2006 11:07PM
I've gotta see how they're going to pull off darts on a DS. Would you have to aim your stylus at the touch screen? That would be funny as fuck.
Ryan Williams @ Jul 27th 2006 11:52PM
I'm betting that the darts will be more like the catapult minigames in Mario 64 DS and New Super Mario Bros.
Martin @ Jul 28th 2006 7:21AM
This could be one of the best games for the DS ever!!!
I will definately have to get it. I would love some online backgammon and dominos. All I hope is that there is some kind of score system, and players can't jump out of games!!! I hate that with windows online games.
Eric @ Jul 28th 2006 10:22AM
What? No 52 card pick-up?
Jonathan Harford @ Jul 28th 2006 11:00AM
How can they not include Freecell? This is MADNESS.
Cynical Theory: no Freecell, 'cause they know people will buy Freecell if they sell it on its own.
B @ Jul 28th 2006 12:18PM
Texas Hold 'Em? Wi-Fi? MY PRAYERS HAVE BEEN ANSWERED
If that were the ONLY game on here, I'd buy it without a 2nd thought
Wasyl @ Jul 28th 2006 1:47PM
Spit! I used to play that all the time in 9th grade study hall. Oh, the memories.
Should be fun on the DS.
Mooninaut @ Jul 28th 2006 2:43PM
Oooh, that's a nice selection. I'm gonna have to get that when I upgrade from DS to DS Lite and pass the ol' DS along to Mom & Dad. For once, they'll be explaining the rules of a videogame to *me*.
Joe @ Jul 31st 2006 5:46PM
For the love of god, EUCHRE local/online multiplayer. I'd say goodbye to my social life for weeeeeeks.
