Hey guys, since nobody else let you know, that's actually a controller from the N64 which is code word for Nintendo 64. That's pretty awesome, right buys?

Since we're going to be anal on the specifics of the consoles used in the "Tripod," it should be worth noting that it's a Game Boy Color, not a Game Boy (or GB Pocket). ;)

It was quite a surprise to notice these on the legs of Tripod. I don't even remember how I stumbled across them; I just remember thinking it was cool. I wanted to take photos earlier, but I didn't have a digital camera. A friend of mine took these with his camera phone, of all things. I'm just glad it was a nice day when we took them. :)

On another note, this was a nice surprise to stumble across when checking Joystiq. At least I know who to thank. :)

Sorry, but a video game blog (known for its slant towards Nintendo) screwing up something like the is pretty funny. Not a big deal, but funny. I even recognized that it wasn't a Gamecube controller and I haven't owned a Nintendo system since the NES. :P

Anyway, I think the most striking thing about the statue is that it looks a lot like the Striders from HL2.

P.S. I'm not a fanboy of any consoles, I own a PC and only a PC.

LOL! Wow, just incredible. Nice goin' Chris.

This is almost as good as the time when the news broke that the analog attachment for the (then) Revolution controller would also have an accelerometer in it. (Which was really exciting news.)

http://www.joystiq.com/2006/04/26/introducing-the-revolution-nunchaku-ki-ya/

But the pros at Joystiq, just saw the words "nunchaku attachment" in the story. (I might add that this nickname for the analog attachment had existed for months and months, since day one even. Iwata used it in the controller announcement speech as I recall.) They took that and "broke" the story that the Rev might have a LITERAL nunchaku attachment, COMPLETELY MISSING THE REAL STORY ABOUT THE ACCELEROMETER. I just about pissed myself laughing. I highly encourage everyone to read the original post (it was later fixed as this post surely will be), along with the story it links. You'll be simply amazed.

I swear it’s like these guys don't know the first thing about gaming. If mistakes like this were infrequent or even small, maybe we could understand... but MAN! It's just inexcusable.

Or maybe this is some lame attempt at trolling? ("Hey guys watch this... I'm gonna call it a Gamecube controller! Watch all the Nintendo fanboys scream and complain! Ha!")

It'll be nice to see what the justification is.

Damn, and here I thought I would be the only one who could pick out the differences between the various Game Boy systems on profile alone.

Stike Man's quite right - that's a Game Boy Color. You can tell based on the width of the screen compared to the width of the unit as a whole, as well as the fact that the select and start buttons are oval (instead of rounded rectangular) and parallel to the bottom of the screen (as opposed to at an angle).

Yes that is a N64 controller and a GameBoy color. What the original poster has not noticed however is the PS1 Dual shock controller in another location on the Tripod.
Also the Tripod has some PC parts on it which surely hosted a Micrsoft OS at some point. Just thought the rival fanboys might like to know.

Well spotted. Last year the Workshop had the opportunity to create a sculpture as a tribute to the New Zealand Screen Industry and a landmark for our beautiful city.

The Weta design team had great fun presenting a range of concepts to the Wellington City Council. The design ultimately settled on was one inspired by the robots rattling around in designer Greg Broadmore’s mind.

Greg chose to incorporate many common household items hidden within this 6 tonne bronze tripod – but some of his favourite little items are the pieces Christopher Grant very cleverly spotted and shown here on this site.

From one team of gamers to another – Greg and the guys at Weta say cheers to you, Chris!
