New FFIII trailer all purty 'n stuff

Go Nintendo points us to a trailer taken from the official Japanese Final Fantasy III site that displays more of that beautiful CG you've come to know and love from the franchise.
Note the angelic look of the characters and the soft flowing music to coincide with the gentle breeze blowing through the trailer. Take a deep breath, and enjoy. Doesn't that prerendered CG stuff get you all hyped up to finally play this DS remake?

I want this now.
Ryan @ Jul 28th 2006 5:38PM
Wow.
The only Final Fantasy game I have ever played is FFVI on the SNES, and I didn't even finish that game. But after watching this trailer for FFIII, I suddenly want it. Badly.
Babylonian @ Jul 28th 2006 5:38PM
I like the music. It's HAL-Labs-y.
araca @ Jul 28th 2006 5:45PM
Always saw this as an overrated franchise. This game looks fantastic, though.
James Sorensen @ Jul 28th 2006 5:53PM

Boring. Damn, it's already hard enough to stay awake at work. I'll probably get the game but that trailer induced sleepytime.
striderhayasa @ Jul 28th 2006 6:02PM
whoooooa,
it's BOUGHT!
NDS-behold, the portable that could.... and DID!
spoo @ Jul 28th 2006 6:09PM
This is the reason I bought a DS at launch, they are sure taking their sweet ass time on it. It is looking nice and much more then a port :)
The DS needs more RPG love.
jabbertrack @ Jul 28th 2006 6:10PM
Games like this are real no-brainers for technology upgrades and remakes and I for one am seriously glad they are doing it.
Now for the rest up to 7
bob @ Jul 28th 2006 6:22PM
I can't wait, the DS has been great to me lately
HaloBreaker @ Jul 28th 2006 6:29PM
I thought it was the US III being remade... not as excited. Still gonna get it, but waiting for FF VI then >(
Greg2k @ Jul 28th 2006 6:31PM
I guess this is the first serious Final Fantasy game to arrive on Nintendo hardware since FFVI, right?
Even I hate Final Fantasy series, and this game looks very nice. Might end up getting it.
hepme @ Jul 28th 2006 7:01PM
I haven't played FF since FFII on the SNES, I think I'm going to pick this one up, especially if the music is that good ingame
msdarnell @ Jul 28th 2006 7:49PM
What I wouldn't give for a FFVI remake in this vein.
metayoshi @ Jul 28th 2006 8:22PM
Wow, I want this game even more now. That trailer is movie theater worthy, and square better be a smart ass and put an english version of that trailer in American movie advertisements.
kyou @ Jul 28th 2006 8:27PM
Nobuo Uematsu, dude. You won't find a better videogame music composer. Well... maybe Koji Kondo. Hard choice to make.
idioteraser @ Jul 28th 2006 8:57PM
The US Final Fantasy III is final fantasy six which is coming to the gba in an enhanced port.
Reeve @ Jul 28th 2006 9:33PM
"Doesn't that prerendered CG stuff get you all hyped up to finally play this DS remake?"
Yes. And I don't know how much longer I can wait...
Colonel @ Jul 28th 2006 9:37PM
I'd kill for a next-gen 360/PS3 final fantasy VIII (8) remake...am I the only one who really enjoyed that game?
all those cutscenes actually being playabale FTW
Zell @ Jul 28th 2006 9:45PM
I'm praying they remake VI. I think that might be my favorite Final Fantasy of all-time. I found it to be one of the most involved games on the SNES. I still play it. I think it would be beyond incredible on the DS.
I can picture the opera scenes right now.
Eric @ Jul 28th 2006 10:11PM
FINALLY, a game that shows off the DS's power!
*startsa building a time machine so he can go foreward in time and play it*
(^"startsa" was a typo, but its kinda funny because its Mario talk, so I'll leave it)
Zeromaru @ Jul 28th 2006 10:38PM
I SO can't wait for this game. I've wanted it since before I got a DS.
As far as other remakes go, FFVII remade onto PS3 would make for a fitting conclusion to Compilation of FFVII. Other than that, have Before Crisis ported to GBA so those Stateside (and their brothers up north, such as myself) can enjoy it, not to mention the plethora of people without the particular model series of phones it is (and will be for the US release) released for.
thunderleg @ Jul 28th 2006 11:33PM
CG doesn't make a game. Plus it's too... flowery.
Make a decent, gritty Tactics Ogre and I'm ALL over it.

Yes you are the only one. FFVIII was terrible and shouldn't be mentioned ever again. Also the direct sequel to FFX, I refuse to type out its name, needs to recalled and have all manufactured discs destroyed. Also all of its game code should be deleted from any Square Enix computers.
digitalFrequency @ Jul 29th 2006 3:59AM
those cutscenes look really cool... i hope the storyline is just as compelling.
ff8 had some of its good points. a lot of its music from the game i liked a lot more than the other ff games and it had an okay storyline. though it is probably my least favorite of the post 16-bit ff games... maybe tied with ffx-2. as an rpg, i thought it was better than grandia III.
as for ffx-2, i liked how they threw in that new game plus mode and i liked most of the side storylines more than the main storyline itself. since the game was about fixing the ties to pre-apocalyptic zanarkand, they threw in some side stories that described some of the history of the zanarkand war which got me trying to think critically how certain things fit with ffx in terms of coming up with crazy theories about yevon and such. though they were never explicited stated, it was interesting to think about that.
at least with this rereleased title coming out soon, if the ff trend remains true, then this ff3 should be an interesting game as was ff4-ff7, or maybe i'm hoping for too much?
the problem now is that it seems square-enix is trying to shoot for a broader audience it seems, thus several traditional elements in their game design gets sacrificed... some trivial and some more noticable, but it may eventually add up. from a business standpoint, it would make sense anyway as they want to create a game accessible by anyone from someone who's hardcore rpg fan to someone who's looking for a christmas present for a niece or something like that, which in turn may generate more revenue.
i hope ff12 doesn't meet these speculations i've made... from what i've played from the japanese version and the english demo, it might seem my speculations may be proven wrong... of course, i'd like that very much.
and yeah, this'll sound a tad bit extreme, but if they completely remade ff6 and ff7 for the ps3, then i'd buy the ps3 hands down... of course, if this hypothetically were to happen, it'd be a couple years from now which means the ps3 will hopefully be less than 400 bucks. if they were to do it for the x360 instead then i'd buy that system in a heartbeat as well ^_^

@ Kyou
Other great composers
Yuzo Koshiro - Revenge of Shinobi
Steve Henifin - Eternal Darkness
Tokuhiko "Bo" Uwabo - is an all time great and created the soundtrack for many Sega games as well as the Phantasy Star games, which are still some of the best game music every made.
Saori Kobayashi, Mariko Nanba are responsible for the Panzer Dragoon RPG Azel soundtrack. Beautifully done.
Koji Konno name speaks for himself.
Kenji Yamamoto is the composer for Metroid Prime.
@hepme
I'm hear you. I haven't played a FF game since the american FF 3 on SNES. FF Tactics isn't a traditional FF but I loved it. I'll play the GBA version which I hear is awesome but the PS and PS2 versions I passed on. The NES and SNES FFs are still the best IMO
The Midgard Knight @ Jul 29th 2006 11:37AM
So now I definately want to get DS so I can get that game. It looks soo great. When it started, I got goosebumps...I need it, haaa.
Rare Hare @ Jul 29th 2006 12:03PM
This game, next to Legend of Zelda Phantom Hourglass, will look amazing and play fantastically on my new DS Lite.
I am so excited.
Schattenjager @ Jul 29th 2006 2:31PM
I can't believe that a trailer is going to make you buy a game and say it's terrific.
One of the rude awakenings I've experienced in gaming is about Final Fantasy. I loved it much more when I was younger, but when I think about it now, there's really nothing that would keep me playing it.
Why you say?
Yes, FF games have terrific stories. Square also made it a point that each iteration has cutting edge graphics, at least on the cinematics end.
But what about gameplay? There's hardly anything. It's paper thin. You can only use a few buttons, which isn't inherently bad.
You're limited to the X button to do a whole lot of stuff, and this makes it tedios. This is what's bad.
Now you'll tell me that the trailer will make you purchase FFIII?
On a side note, the FF that sounds promising is part XII. At least, that's what Famitsu described in its review. Still, I've yet to try it out and prove that the game is indeed different from its predecessors.
I'm jaded, so at default, FFIII would probably feel like the rest of the "average" FF games.

Your not the only one that enjoyed FFVIII :D and I too would kill for a FFVIII remake on any of the three Nex-Gen consoles (if they ever do it to FFVII they better do it for FFVIII and FFIX...it's only fair...).
Anyway, music in this trailer was just...Great!...and I'm looking forward to picking this one up when it is released in NA (hoping the music makes an appearance in-game in some shape or form :D)

If you couldn't find a reason to buy a DS before then here is one. Any word on the North American release? Hopefully in August.
Geist @ Jul 29th 2006 9:23PM
Because my opinion is awesome, I shall post it!
FFVIII: I didn't like it, story-wise, character-wise, GFs and magic and whatnot. But goddamn I loved the cutscenes. It's the only reason I played that game.
I think what impresses me most about that trailer is that it's for the DS, the handheld system that everyone thought was weak as hell and couldn't do anything. Gotta say, I likes my DS, even if it is Phat.
As for the whole "FF is stale" argument, yeah. Most of the RPG industry is. I mean, gameplay elements from twenty years ago are still being used. I enjoyed III because it introduced jobs and skills and whatnot, which I will be looking forward to when I purchase this.
R0DJOh @ Jul 30th 2006 1:49PM
I like RPGs and stuff and Im glad the DS is gettin some Square love. But Im not sold by cutscenes. I'll have to play the game myself.
Rivo @ Jul 30th 2006 2:51PM
I thought FFVIII was a pheonominal game, but it is not without its problems. It appears that the story got a bit off track by the end of the 3rd disc.. I remember reading somewhere that there were some development problems which resulted in sacrificing some of the original vision for the end of the story. Great ending tho!!
Of all the FF games that could be remade for next gen, I think I would prefer VI, VIII, and VII, in that order. (I don't really have that much fondness for VII, but I think that its graphics look extremely dated now, so it could use a remake.)
My top 10 FF list:
1 FFXII (Aboslutely an incredible game)
2)FFXI (most ppl are shocked at this one, but the world, jobs and story(s) are FF in its purest form)
3)FFIX
4)FFVI
5)FFVIII
6)FFI
7)FFX-2
8)FFIV
9)FFVII
10)FFV
*this DS remake will most likely be making an appearence on the list if the previews are any indication.

Finally a bit of Final Fantasty news that -doesn't- suck. I can't wait for this game. I'm so endlessly sick of the technologically-advanced ghettos and small villages that have come to be known as everything from FFVII and on (excluding IX). It's about time for a new (albeit old, as well) Final FANTASY, not Final Sci-Fi.
