Time to dust off The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker
If you have a copy of The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker lying around, collecting dust or moths somewhere in the old closet, it may be time to break that baby out. Through the use of Action Replay, some beta levels were discovered in the game -- and quite a few at that. And now, through the magic of YouTube, video evidence of said codes exist. The levels all resemble this Super Monkey Ball infused world where you go around smashing things or picking up objects or just causing whatever mayhem your little Zelda-loving heart desires. Check after the break for all the codes and videos.
[Thanks, bv]

Yes, I'll try this right away.
Thanks you so much Joystiq ;P
Paul P. @ Jul 28th 2006 3:05PM
This was found like... a year and a half ago. I've never seen videos though, so you got that.
riffgod @ Jul 28th 2006 3:07PM
Huh. I guess people do buy those AR thingies.
ejflex @ Jul 28th 2006 3:09PM
To bad there wasnt a code to turn the cheesey cell shading off. Dont get me wrong I LOVE ZELDA... In fact I'd go as far as saying that I have the biggest erection on the planet for the series... but I was dissapointed with this game. It was a phenominal game, but not on par with other Zeldas in my opinion. Maybe they'll have an unlockable level where you sail around in a boat for hours lowering a grappling hook to look for little shards. Oh wait.. thats the actual game.
Pheonix Gamma @ Jul 28th 2006 3:17PM
oh wait...that wasn't funny :X
Yea, the codes are kinda old. A few years, methinks. I still haven't tried them, as I have no need for AC.
I'd like to play the best levels for Twilight Princess...
I'd like to play Twilight Princess...
Rodents @ Jul 28th 2006 3:22PM
wow, i could have even told you this guys, i figured its too damn old to start with so why even post about it? kind of a crappily assembled post too
Eric @ Jul 28th 2006 3:27PM
Is there just an infinite level of beta levels?
Also, do I have to enter every single code to have them work?
C. Grant @ Jul 28th 2006 3:31PM
Rodents: Thanks, rodents. I could tell you that you're obnoxious, but then where would we be?
Eric @ Jul 28th 2006 3:31PM
(sorry, I missed the "OSE ONLY ONE AT A TIME"}
I dont really get it though- What code do I enter to get to "Beta Level 1?"
Rootbeer @ Jul 28th 2006 3:34PM
Man, the hot coffee is going to hit the fan once the ESRB realizes that Nintendo never mentioned any of these levels when submitting the game for rating...
cochese @ Jul 28th 2006 3:38PM
Nice Chibi-Robo tune...hot damn I wanna be a dev.
sgtpepper @ Jul 28th 2006 3:39PM
This is old news, although I just happen to have pulled out WW the other day, and tried one of these (they take forever to type in, so I've only tried two...)
common sense @ Jul 28th 2006 3:41PM
wow i guess bieng gamecube owners, the only thing to look forward too is playing beta levels on 3 year old games......nice.
Well then again its not like you got much forward to with the wii is there? what with your 8 confirmed laucnh titles.
LOL @ nintendo zombies.
Tesla @ Jul 28th 2006 4:06PM
Zelda: VR Missions!
Most MGS fans will get the reference.
ejflex @ Jul 28th 2006 4:56PM
Pheonix Gamma,
Why dont you keep your cheesey comments to yourself instead of being a complete fool. Your post was great as well.
TDub301 @ Jul 28th 2006 5:14PM
Funny, common sense, because common sense would tell you that those 8 (actually more than 8 if you'd do some research) titles are all better quality (i.e. more fun) than 90% of the piece of shit 360 titles out and the waste of time, space, and money exclusive launch titles that the "all-powerful" PS3 will have. Any games that come out for the other 2 that can compare to those "8" launch titles are multiplatforms anyway. Sony almost completely relies on 3rd party games for their popularity, once PS3 with it's very complicated dev kit comes out and Sony's 3rd party developers jump ship, Sony will be history. Nintendo has fans. Sony has zombies.
Mr. Khan @ Jul 28th 2006 6:38PM
Off topic
I disagree, its MS that has Zombies, as they do not sell you a console; they sell you "The Hummer Attitude" Which is why it does not sell in Japan.

These codes have been around for some time

Neil @ Jul 28th 2006 6:46PM
Wow. This is some pretty polished whitebox test levels. A lot of developers could take a cue from Nintendo on this.
brains @ Jul 28th 2006 7:06PM
it's a me... braaaaaaaains
AK @ Jul 28th 2006 7:14PM
Cool, even if the code is "old", it's nice for those of us who maybe wanted to see the youtube videos of it.
Why the hell did the ps3 and 360 get dragged into this? Is it THAT hard to focus on the post, without trashing another company?
elmer92413 @ Jul 28th 2006 7:38PM
What...???
No hidden sex level...???
No Ganon banging the Princess...???
Link not doing Granny...???
...
..
.
Tom @ Jul 28th 2006 11:14PM
Joystiq, are you EFFING RETARDED?! I played these levels in, like, July of 2003. WTF is wrong with you people?! OLD!
Merus @ Jul 29th 2006 6:11AM
Soooooo... are the dungeons cut from the finished game still there?
(There was at one on Greatfish Isle, and another one which I'd be willing to bet is somewhere around the Isle of Steel. The story goes that Nintendo knew they were in trouble, so they cut the third pearl dungeon, where you got the bombs, and moved the pearl itself to Outset. Naturally, they also had to cut the oracle dungeon that tied into the Greatfish Island's plot. The island still has some detail on it because it was modelled, and they basically smashed it to coincidence with the change in direction. I don't know what happened to what they'd done of those two dungeons, but it's likely that they were folded into the other dungeons.)
PhoenixJ @ Jul 29th 2006 11:26AM
Wasn't this found back in 2004?
Either way, these are just test areas for game mechanics, not cut dungeons from the actual game.
sphetr2 @ Aug 4th 2006 8:33AM
My favorite is the one where you climb stairs to an extremely high point. then you jump :)
