A Midway forums moderator has posted the official "kharacter" select screen for Mortal Kombat: Armageddon. The image features 62 character slots, excluding the two kreate-a-kombatant boxes (at the bottom corners of the top half). In addition, Blaze, Daegon, Meat, and Taven have been locked. And, if you look closely, you'll notice Chameleon has been added. See him?

Anyway, I really hope this game is compatible with 360 and LIVE, unlike Deception (which was, and then stopped being... sort of).

The OXM issue had a different select screen. It had a KAF icon where chameleon now is and two ? where the new KAF icons now are.
But yeah, MK:A is gonna rock. Nice to see it making the news.

Looks a lot like Mokap.

How different could they be, really? Good grief, if your selected character is obscurred by the character selection screen, either you need a new way to select your character or maybe you're just padding. If most of them use the same control scheme and same attacks, why not just make them different costumes of each other?
Oh, that's right...then you wouldn't have 62 characters to use as your dick measurement. Yeesh. Of course, I'd rather have Tekken: DR or any version of Soul Calibur any day of the week over MK, so I'm biased.

Also worthy of note is the new mini-game in Armageddon, Motor Kombat. Think Mario Kart with fatalities. Then there's the Kreate-A-Fighter mode and the Konquest mode using the Shaolin Monks engine. Awesome.

the whole reason they are having all these characters is becasue the series creator wants to totally redo the franchise now that his partner is gone, so they are making one last regular one and putting all past characters in it.
Screw soul caliber, that game is a button masher, and tekken, well tekken is just gay. I dont like MK much either though

don't they know that massive selections like this just turn off new players? At least have them unlockable as you play if you've GOT to have 62 characters...
Few things are more overwhelming than popping several quarters into a new arcade machine and greeted with a character selection screen where you get to choose from 50+ characters that all look pretty much alike (to a new player), and you have like 5 seconds to choose.
Then it really doesn't matter you get your ass beat one way or another.

I'm excited.

I concur, but I still like MK2 better. The "combo system" in MK3 was lame. Better yet, go back to Karate Champ, or Exploding Fist where there are no hand-fed combos or special moves. Those were the good days.
Anyway, I've never played Deception or MK4, but I liked Deadly Alliance sans it's horrendously difficult controls for the characters I liked.
This game's release will be a good day, and making my own character is a definite plus.
What I want to know, is if they are going to make more MK a la Shaolin Monks. That is my favorite Mortal Kombat game ever. But I think MKA is the last one.

I heart soul calibur .. .

And dear god these games are always horribly unbalanced. The last one was terrible, especially the online mode.
I'll wait 3 months untill this one is in the bargin bin for 5 bucks like the last one... and I only got the last one because I was drunk at the time.

when I say button masher, I mean its possibel to beat some ones ass just by button mashing. thats what the term button masher means.
yea you can mash buttons in other games, and other fighting games, but in most fighting games youd get your ass kicked easily if you could only button mash, and soul caliber is one of those games where you do not have to know a single move and you could still win., not exactly what you would call deep

Can't we get Ivy, Cassandra, and the other Namco cuties into this nasty game?

I grok that, but I've never really seen ANY fighter that has a story IN-GAME. A couple of lines of text and a cut-scene aren't really that much of a story to me, and I've yet to see a fighter that really has that much of one, unless it inherited it from an anime/manga/sci-fi series that inspired it. Mortal Kombat does have a pretty involved timeline...but that's all outside the game. Most of the character stories aren't actually in the game itself (or at least haven't been in the ones I've played).
My point is that looking at that list, I see a lot of what I would consider double-dipping. All fighters do this (Tekken, Soul Calibur, Virtua Fighter, MK, DOA, etc.) but it seems excessive, here. Do you really need both Goro and Sheeva or Frost and Subzero? Do they really play that differently? I'm not familiar enough with recent MKs to know...but my experience in the past was that they really weren't very different at all, other than a different model.

I miss the days when they had real guys on the game. Those martial arts guys in the gym in some gym which I cant remember. Johnny Cage was a karate instructor i think. Goro was... hmmm an action figure. The real Kung Lao was a martial artist/doctor.

The word "dilution" comes to mind.

Haven't you played Deadly Alliance or Deception? Each of the characters have different moves based on real fighting styles. It's not like MK1-4 where the only unique moves where the special attacks.
The reason there is Frost and Sub-Zero and Goro and Sheeva is because the game is meant to tie up all the loose ends in the series. Every character in the Mortal Kombat universe will be given backstories which correctly mesh with the main story (even if they have to be retconned) and endings which will be considered canon so the series can start fresh next gen.

Check out Kengo: Master of Bushido. It's an older PS2 sword fighting game, but damn it's great. A skilled player will school an average button masher EVERY TIME.

Khameleon, Unmasked Sub-Zero, and Human Smoke.
Scorpion looks great but I wish they would have just left him the way he looks in MK Deception. it would be great if they had brought back the Well (Continue Scene) from MK4 and also included MK4 with the package.

Khameleon, Unmasked Sub-Zero, and Human Smoke."
Khameleon is the only character that's missing (though she might be selectable like Blaze and Mokap were in MK:DA) because:
1. Unmasked Sub-Zero is the same person as the current Sub-Zero.
2. Human Smoke was a non-canonical extra character just like Classic Sub-Zero. Smoke's human form only exists as a memory in his mind.
