Kris K: It's vinyl, not "VINAL." Just a thought.

And if you want a job with Red Octane, you'd best learn how to spell their name right. There's no "I" in team...or octane!

I don't want to be a spelling nazi, but when I see faux audiophiles misspell "vinyl" (in all caps, no less) AND the name of their dream employer, I just have to say something.

Back to your regularily scheduled programming...

I hope there's more modern songs in GHII, too. And not just Bloc Party. They're overrated.

Oh, and I agree that it'll be difficult to get Metallica to work with them, due to the nature of how their band is set up with rights and stuff. However, I'm all for the idea of a popular Metallica cover - if we can't get a "One" or "Battery," a version of Diamond Head's "Am I Evil?" would be awesome.

Last Caress? Ha, no way. Listen to the lyrics. Misfits songs wouldn't lend themselves too well to Guitar Hero anyway, not enough solos. A DANZIG song though (not Mother!) would be awesome. Dirty Black Summer!

Dude,

#16. Just dropping some lingo doesn't get you a job.

You're also forgetting a lot of things in your "idea" list. Bands like ACDC, Metallica, Zepplin, Beatles rarely, if ever lend out their songs to anything. Licensing stuff like this anyway would be REALLY cost prohibitive for developers.

You're also pointing out REALLY obvious stuff for addition. I'm not trying to criticize, but "online mode" is something that I'm sure was under consideration at some point.

And as "authentic" as it may feel like it should be, they adopted this play style because it's easy for people who DON'T play guitar to play. DDR never strived to overly complicate itself past the 4-6 arrows and look how well it's succeeded. If someone is looking for something more challenging, they'll probably go out and look into getting a real guitar and learning on their own.

You are 100% right I do need to get a spell checker or Joystiq Should provide one like DIGG does. My keyboard sticks and my ideas flow out of my head faster than i can type sometimes.

SO yes I do need to spell check more "RED OCTAINE"
THere is that better?

As for the Job comment - They already have my resume and I have contacted them a number of times. I just figured with a BLOG as popular as this if people saw my ideas and said how cool some of the ideas were and Red Octaine saw that people thougt my ideas were cool - It might be a chance to convince them to call me already.

I knew the moment I played this game in October last year that it would be a huge hit and a Sequal would be deffinite.

I'll quote the end of the conversation from Digitial Life I had with (I think it was Brian) Head product tester for GH.

ME "So whats planned for the sequal"

"Sequal?"

ME "yes this game is going to demand a sequal"

"well lets see how this game sells first"

ME "ok fine so it comes out Novemeber 4th?"

"yes"

ME "ok on november 11th, one week after it goes on sale, make sure you look me up and call me becuase I would love to join the team and work on the sequal - I can bring alot to the table. By Nov 11th I bet you will see this sell so well a sequal will be on the table a week later"

"Ok, Kris well see - I got your resume."

I just have a million and one ideas for this game. Some that i bet none of you would ever think of.

I'll give you one more (BTW all my ideas have already been Emailed to Red Octaine with my Resume each time - so don't try to steal them and submit them as your own)

ITS CALLED GUITAR HERO - well i grew up with a bunch of Guitar heros - Clapton, Vai, Satriani, Hammet, Page, Van Halen, Ect...

How cool would it be to have a GUITAR Hero battle - where instead of a pre done song - a Polygonal version of a guitar god (Say Randy Rhoads or Eddie Van Halen)is on stage and you have to Duel Note for note with the Guitar God and OR replicate what he does (solo wize) the Idea to sway the Audience Meter in your favor and thats how you Unlock ATUALL Guitar heros and their AXE's for use by yourself in the game - instead of having to earn cash to buy everything. Because I know that I could never afford to buy Van Halen But I could Earn his respect in a Guitar Duel to get him to play with me. Plus it adds a more realistic element to the game. If Actual guitarist Licences their likeness to RedOctaine would you be inclined (after you beat all the songs) to switch your made up character for Eddie VH and GO play that VanHalen song again. Who BTW would have special Moves and such when you set off the star power that are in the likeness of a real stage performance. Or remember the Unlockable Metal Head in GH 1 (forget his name) but he looks alot like a character from the cover of the Shout at the Devil Cover. Just change the hair and you have Mick Mars. ANyways the possiblitys are endless - but the creativity is there to leave the core mechanics alone but add GOODIES that truely set GH II apart from the Original.

Just an Idea.....

Chili Peppers is a good bet with them being in the first game. I'd hope for something Californication or later. Their latest album, Stadium Arcadium, has at least half a dozen tracks that would be great for GH2. For some reason, I find that the older this band gets, the better they play together and the greater their musical output.

Want another Idea.

Intergation of the I-TOY - Xbox vision Camera (if it comes to 360)

Create a music Video Mode. Record yourself in the Game instead of the Guitar Hero Character.

Save the video.

Use camera Effects and Camera Angles that you pick to truly make the Video your own.

Save it to Memory Card / HDD.

With Xbox - ability to upload your video to xbox live for trade with other users.

Could be real interesting Idea? Especially if it comes to Xbox 360.

You only need one Metallica song - and that's Creeping Death. I'm sadly disappointed that Strutter made the cut as there are dozens of classic Kiss hit songs that are far superior (Duece, Cold Gin, Black Diamond, Detroit Rock City, Fire House, Love Gun, God of Thunder, Let Me Go Rock & Roll, etc., etc.). But then life is hard I guess.

Other songs they include really oughtta be
Panda - Dungen
Highway to Hell - AC/DC
Stroke Me - Billy Squier
Dope Nose - Weezer
No Cigar - Millencollin
Beyond this Horizon - Screaming Trees
Burn the Witch and/or No One Knows and/or Little Sister - Queens of the Stone Age
New York Groove - Ace Frehley

This could go on for days and days...and no doubt will. I digress.

@54 Gibos

Once you add tracks like Puff Daddy, you kill the Credibilty of the Game - no matter how rock it sounds its a RAP SONG.

The game is GUITAR HERO - not rapper song wants to sound rockin. Tell me - DO you ever see the guitar player at the puff daddy concert?

If you put songs like that in the game then you open it up to other Artist that Experiment with the Rock Genere but are not part of it, Like Run DMC, Cypress Hill, Dare I even say LL cool J - even Michael Jackson.

Put songs from any of those artist in the game and GH II will loose ALL credibilty - you all want metallica and puff daddy in the same game? are you all F'n nuts.

THE Only NON rock Genere Artist I say that has the Respect and Balls to be rock enough for Guitar Hero is BEASTIE BOYS - and that only because - Licence to ill has true Rock Tracks with a Real Guitar Hero playing the Solos's KERRY KING FROM SLAYER. - I might even think it would be ok to put in walk this way from Run DMC / Aerosmith becuase Joe perry and Steven Tylor worked with RUN DMC on it personally and they didn't sample them - but then again I rather just have WALK THIS WAY from AEROSMITH IN THE GAME - RUN DMC don't belong there.

And don't tell me public enemy either - just beucase they re-did Bring the noise don't mean it belongs in there - I like MADHOUSE alot better - though i think Caught in a mosh would be better for this game.

PS: You need stage Divers in this game please..!!!!

And work is already under way...

Aside from all of the great suggestions thus far, I'd LOVE to see a song by The Clash on here. Their baselines are always great, and you need some easier iconic songs to fill out the beginning of the game.

Maybe "London Calling," "The Guns of Brixton," or "Complete Control."

I'd go with "Complete Control," if only because Joe Strummer would yell out "Be My Guitar Hero!" at the end of the solos in concert.

Rock and especially heavy metal is music for geeks and for those lacking in soul. The big hair and spandex is a dead give away. That’s why it goes hand in hand with WWF - a partnership made in heaven.

Why can't we for once have something funky, with a bit of groove, instead of this turgid mess. If it must be rock, at least they should stick to people like Hendrix.

I hope they manage to maintain the same balance in the sequel, it's nice to have some blues and jazz oriented stuff thrown in to mix it up, like Frankenstein and Crossroads.

Then apparently, Ln, you don't know how big Motley Crue and similar bands (Poison, GnR, Twisted Sister, Van Halen, Bon Jovi, etc) were in the 80s.

And do you consider yourself or the rest of us here role playing geeks because we read blogs about videogames? I'm not attacking your opinion, I just don't see where you are coming from. Would you say the likes of Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, all the way to bands like Megadeth, Mudvayne, and Cannibal Corpse, are geeks? I don't understand.

Regarding Metallica, I just read today that they have finally joined iTunes, so maybe they are slacking up their copyright rules... Guitar Hero is still quite a ways off for Metallica, but here's to hoping.

I know exactly how big they were. WWF was big too, doesn't make it any good. There is an endless list of stuff which has been popular,in spite of being terrible.

“And do you consider yourself or the rest of us here role playing geeks because we read blogs about videogames?”

Well of course. But I'm not expecting to be heard in Guitar Heroes, so it's irrlevent.

“Would you say the likes of Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, all the way to bands like Megadeth, Mudvayne, and Cannibal Corpse, are geeks? I don't understand.”

Compared to say Ray Charles or Sly and the Family Stone, they’re geeks. They’re nerds with absolutely zero groove. Especially the shredders, who have no regard to musicality, or a connection to music besides technical ability.

What they lack in making music they make up in hairspray and a contrived ansty moody attitude which would put fellow shallow “artists” like 50cent and P. Diddy to shame.

Here’s a clue to these artists. I don't care how Kerazzy you think you are in your spandex and face paint, or how hip and dope you think you look carrying a cane. Do your bit, sing your damn song, and save the stupid act for the circus. Any artist who can’t figure this out, shouldn’t be in Guitar Heros.

I agree that popular things aren't always good. My personal opinion is that 90% of today's popular music is crap, but there are those that disagree. Likewise, I disagree with you that these bands are "nerds with absolutely zero groove".

Van Halen, Guns N Roses, Judas Priest, and Iron Maiden (my personal favorite band) are among the top bands of all time. You may not like them, but that doesn't make them bad. And, while some of their bigger hits were light on the "musicality" side, each of these bands has proven that they are capable of amazing things musically.

You might be surprised to learn that many shredders focus their musical development on musical theory. Scales are huge in guitar music, and learning them aids a guitarist's ability to solo and create music in general. I know because I've been playing acoustic, electric, and classical guitar for 6 years.

While many musical acts are adding more and more to the theatrics, as they have been for years, it's prejudgemental to dismiss their music based on their "circus" appearance. A large part of a musician's money is made in ventures outside album-pressing. It is profitable to have a popular appearance. Kenny G may be great musically, but he won't be considered a "great" musician because of his lack of appeal. I agree that it doesn't distract from his musical ability; however, popular bands don't automatically have zero musical ability.

Since you make reference to "good" bands that do not fit with the Guitar Hero genre, what bands do you consider to meet your "hero" qualificaitons?

Personally, I don't see how you could argue with many of the bands that have been mentioned in this thread by other posters.

You are entitled to your opinion. But soul music does not fit with the Guitar Hero genre, at least as set up by the first game's track list. The music that appears on the first game and will surely appear on the second are a great sampling of easy power rockers all the way to the most advanced guitar of all time. This is what Guitar Hero is about.

More songs that should, but probably won't get in the game.

Muse; Dreadstar.
Spiritual Beggars; Wonderful World (or anything else by them).
Ozric tentacles; Kick Muck. A lot of the Ozrics is too keyboardy for the game but this is a finger killer.
Jane's Addiction; Three days (preferably based on the live version.
AC/DC; The Jack ('cos it'd be fun for posing)
Dream Theater; Ytse Jam or Erotomania.
Hendrix; Voodoo Chile or Dolly Dagger or Manic depression.
Beatles/Whitesnake; Day Tripper.
Parliament Funkadelic. Maggot Brain.
Talking of Whitesnake, how about Here I go Again (for all you cock-rockers)
Korn; Here to stay.
Something by Hawkwind but not bloody Silver machine. Shot down in the night or Needle Gun would be good.
Rolling Stones; Start me up.
Michael Schenker group; Into the Arena. Good two player.
Ufo; Doctor, Doctor.
Radiohead; Creep.
Saxon; And the bands played on.
The Music; The truth is no words.
Whale; Hobo Humpin' Slobo Babe.

Absolutely no more Franz Ferdinand (criminally overrated) No Artic Monkeys, Oasis or Libertines/Babyshambles either (garbage, garbage, garbage!)
Too many other tracks that would be great but, as this looks like a series with more legs than a millipede there's room for all of them. Incidentally, "Am I Evil", for those who can't be bothered to read sleeve notes was originally performed by Diamond Head and, although I like Metallica, I'd rather play to the original.

Before anybody else points it out, I now realise the Diamond head thing had been sorted before I posted. sorry 'bout that. On another note, it always makes me laugh when someone accuses rockers of having ability but no soul. Surely the very definition of soul is music that is played with great feeling and in an emotional context, even if that emotion is aggressive. Try telling a rock fan that Robert Plant or Chris Cornell or Perry Farrell is singing without feeling and you'll be on the end, at best, of a bemused silence. Conversely, I haven't heard many genuine soul singers within the pigeon-holed genre in the last twenty years (Jill Scott excluded). Most of them seem to think that soul means cramming as many note changes into each syllable as they can and it sounds awful, not soulful. Stevie Wonder could do it, So could Aretha Franklin in her time but the modern crop sound like children whining for sweets. I accept that artists like Ray charles were true greats but how are they to be included in the game? If it was keyboard hero, Mr Charles would be right up there. I'm not overly familiar with Sly but I seem to remember lots of horns and bass, but no prominent guitar (I could well be wrong about that, as I said, I don't really know them beyond "dance to the music" and "family affair"). If, however, you want groove and great guitar, you need look no futher than Parliament Funkadelic. Maggot Brain, as included in my previous post would be a fine addition. Likewise Led Zep's Trampled underfoot or anything by the The Music.
One more thing. A gentleman by the name of Buckethead (great technical ability, circus freak appearance) has collaborated to great effect with Bootsy Collins, Eddie Hazell and Bernie Worrell (just about the funkiest people on the planet). If they can recognise each others talents and play nicely together, the rest of us don't really get a say.

My Guitar Heroes are Angus and Eddie, so any AC/DC or Van Halen would be awesome. Since they're having you can choose to play bass, there should probably be some songs that have more prominent bass parts. I've always enjoyed the bass in Aerosmith's Sweet Emotion and Staind's Mudshovel. Other songs I think would be interesting to play are Gn'R's Welcome to the Jungle, Bryan Adams's It's Only Love, and Tesla's Cumin' Atcha Live.
