Crytek targets PS3 programmers, Crysis port possible

A recent job opening for PS3 programmers, listed on Crytek's website, suggests that the developer's much praised FPS, Crysis, may be headed to PlayStation 3 after all. While Crytek maintains that Crysis is currently a PC exclusive, the game had been listed for PS3 and Xbox 360 during the initial phases of its development.

One of the requirements of the new job listing is "[experience] with next generation cross-platform development," indicating that a Crysis port to PS3 is certainly possible. Of course, Crytek could also be planning a console spinoff, similar to what has been done with the Far Cry franchise, or for that matter, an entirely new title altogether. Whatever the case, if Crytek is only now hunting for programmers, don't expect a PS3 game from the studio for at least another year or two.

Don't really see a lot of entry level game development jobs. Myself, I do automation, logic, burning and printing. I love my job, but I'd love to develop games. Don't know where the hell I would ever get experience.

Of course its going to be on the PS3 and 360, its being published by EA. Its going to be on every god damn console known to man. I bet we'll even see a cell phone game.

Start writing your own games... build-up a portfolio of work. Then apply for every entry-level position you can find. A lot of studios need grunt programmers to create in-house tools and custom work-flow solutions.

I love that 360 is completely not mentioned in the title and barely in the body, yet the only acutal quote is "cross platform next gen" talent request. How is that, in any way, shape, or form PS3 specific? What the hell?

Kiggles, the article was about a posting on the Crytek website asking for PS3 programmers. That's why the PS3 was the main focus in the article.

If the PS3 can do all it says it can, then there is no reason that Crysis won't be able to run on it, DX10 or not. Though I'd rather see a new title for it rather than a port of Crysis. I already have a beefy computer, I won't need to have it available on a console too.

Actually, EA doesn't do many direct PC-to-console ports, they usually develop a console-specific title using the PC franchise's name, juste like BF2/BF2:MC for example. So I think PS3/Xbox360 are more likely to get a "Crysis Instincts" than the actual PC Crysis.
