Golden Sun creator parting ways with Nintendo [update 1]

DSmeet.com reports that Camelot Software, best known for the Golden Sun series on GBA, has announced plans to stop developing titles for Nintendo. Joining forces with Eleven-Up Inc., Camelot will now work exclusively on the PC platform.Besides both Golden Sun titles, Camelot is responsible for Mario Tennis: Power Tour (GBA), as well as Mario Power Tennis and Mario Golf: Toadstool Tour on GameCube. Camelot's departure from the Nintendo scene officially puts to rest rumors that the studio will release a new Golden Sun installment for Wii.
Update: Looks like we jumped the gun. Most sources, including Camelot's official website, seem to indicate that the studio is merely branching out onto the PC platform with 'I LOVE GOLF!' A Wii RPG should still be in the works.

If this is true, it's very, very tragic. The only solid Mario Sports games came straight from Camelot. Camelot, like Nintendo, has a robust vision of how the Mushroom Kingdom games should be. Namco and the developers of Mario Strikers could never pick that up if they continue to do things the way they do now.

Write this one down under Stupidest Business Decisions Ever.
Camelot had a great position to rake in even more cash once the Wii comes out with more Mario Golf sequels, Golden Sun sequels, new IPs with their own sequels, etc. etc.
I'll mourn their loss for now, but this surely won't hurt Nintendo's bottom line.

Dumb @#$%s. Do you know how much a Wii Golden Sun would have sold? Now they just have to start all over again, and no one in the PC gaming circles has really ever heard of them. They just jumped off the top of one mountain and decided they wanted to climb a much steeper one.

This rumor generated from another site whose source was a 404 error, and that rumor stemmed from the fact that Camelot is developing a golf game for the PC. If you look at Camelot's official site, all of their recent updates have ALL been about Nintendo. I'm just really surprised and dissapointed Joystiq didn't even try to follow the facts on this one.

That's alright, Golden Sun was pretty good, but it's fairly forgettable as far a RPG's are concerned, yet the sports games rocked pretty hard, I don't know wether to feel bad or not…
Speaking of RPGs, I want my Mother 1/2/3 DS collection :(

DSmeet.com is reporting on a shoddy translation. camelot has only announced a PC golf game. There was no mention of Nintendo anywhere in their comments. So, yeah, I'd hold out on that one before making any rash judgements.

It'd be so frakking awesome if Camelot ported Golden Sun to DS/GCN/Wii, combined into one, and updated with 3D graphics. GS's graphics were already incredibly impressive, as prerendered sprites. But having to buy two games for the whole is a little pricy. $90 Cdn for a handheld game. That's what's keeping me from getting them right now (I played my friend's copy on his GBA when they came out, long before I got my DS).

those golden sun games were some of the best non-final fantasy role playing on any nintendo system. LOVE to see that on the GC or WII.. or better yet, perfectly adaptable to the DS.. that would be great.. a DS golden sun game..

These are two different translations of the same press release that has caused the recent "Camelot is leaving Nintendo" rumor.
The entire rumor started because of a shoddy translation. Then the entire thing was blown out of proportion. In fact Nintendo is never even mentioned in the press release. All Camelot is saying is that they are making a Golf MMO for the PC.
In short. Camelot is not leaving Nintendo. They are just making a Golf MMO for the PC.

Yeah, they've made a bunch of great games, but golden sun has to be my faveorite. They really need to make it soon and for the ds, because it works prfectly for rpg games. They will make a lot of money with a new golden sun, and are huge money makers for nintendo. they need to stay with nintendo, because its pointless to start a new rep w/ pc.

Thank god they aren't leaving... I really hope they come out with GS3. I think it will be for DS. I mean, Golden Sun is for the GBA after all... And with the PSP hogging the spotlight, nobody would have one. So with the DS's GBA Play abilities, Its a safe assumpton, right?
