J.J. Redick named College Hoops 2K7 cover athlete

2K Sports just announced that Duke Blue Devils star J.J. Redick will be plastered all over the latest College Hoops 2K game -- due in the fall for the Xbox, Xbox 360, PS2, and PS3. J.J. follows the company line with this brilliant PR quote: "I'm a huge video gamer and have always been a fan of the College Hoops 2K series for its authenticity and addictive gameplay. I'm very excited to be a part of 2K7 and from what I've seen so far, this game is going to be mind blowing."
That's right folks, mind blowing! We've always wished for a college basketball game that would shatter our very notion of what a sports game could be. Frankly, we'd rather just settle for a game that played right and didn't freeze up or contain obvious bugs.
Oh, and by the way, the official College Hoops 2K7 site doesn't list the PS3 as a platform the game will be coming to, even though this latest press release does. Take that for what it's worth.

Please, someone photoshop him in a blinged out ride holding a bottle of whiskey ran into a tree on the cover of College Hoops 2K7.
I actually like JJ, but I find it humorous that they go with the college prospect w/ a DUI. Adam Morrison will be on the EA cover. Horray, white boys!

does the 2k line of games carry a 'cover curse' like the EA series? I don't follow sports so I have no idea.
but seriously, its nice to see the handicapped getting some cover time on these sports titles.

I wish 2k would pick a more respectable player for the cover. I thought Sheldon Williams would be a great fit, instead of someone who has had a DUI.

.ed, the famous "cover curse" is the Madden curse. I haven't heard about any other franchise or developer/publisher having a sports curse, but it would be interesting to see what can be found.

John, College players don't have signed contracts and that is why there are no names in the college games. 2k can't pick anyone in college to be on their cover because they aren't under contract.

This game should be good. I think this game will be better than March Madness 2007. All of 2K basketball seris has more realism and athencity. Compared to EA thats one reason why ESPN 2K football is not around. EA feard that ESPN 2K would have surpassed it sooner rather than later.

College regulations prevent contracts. That's why this happens. See Reggie Bush on the cover of NCAA 07.

Jay Williams 2003 (Duke), TJ Ford 2004 (Texas), Josh Childress 2005 (Stanford), Marvin Williams and Roy Williams 2006 (UNC).
Jay Williams got into an accident before he got to play his first season; TJ Ford didn't get into a scoring groove until his 2nd season but hes a PG so it doesn't matter; Josh Childress 10 PPG; Marvin Williams 8.5 PPG. While they are average NBA guys, its certainly a decrease in scoring from college. Then again, not many college players dominate ever in the NBA as they did in college in contrast to other sports.

Jay Williams played his rookie season. then the genius decided to ride a bike and damn near killed himself. He's currently attempting to make a comeback.
ford didn't do much until his 3rd season(last season). 2nd season he was out complete with a spinal cord injury. People did not know at the time of the injury if he would even return.

So they picked a drunk driver huh. I understand he was a good college basketball player, but there is other great well known players from this past draft that they could have used. Putting JJ on the cover is the equivalent of putting Fred Smoot on the cover of Madden. Ok maybe not...

What a great idea! Put a drunk-driving Dookie on the cover a video game. They can't use Sheldon Williams because nobody would buy a game with something that ugly on the cover.
While they are at it, 2K Games should also put Dook on the cover of College Lacrosse 2K7.

Point number 1: learn how to spell DUKE before you make fun of them.
Point number 2: JJ was the best player of the year last year (and morrison), so he gets the cover, get over it.
Point number 3: So what if SheldEn (once again, u spelled it wrong) is ugly, he kicks ass.
Point number 4: Tar Heels suck and you are stupid.
