...what? This makes no sense whatsoever. It's either going to have to use the VC controller (in which case, why not just put it out on GC, given Wii's backwards compatibility?), or it's going to be so gimmicky as to be laughable.
I'm intrigued to see the almost inevitable car-wreck that's going to follow...

Hopefully, they won't take the lazy route with the Virtual Console controller. I know a fighter can be done with the Wiimote, and I'm incredibly disappointed that SSBB is taking the easy way out.

Makes sense. The Wii is a glorified gamecube so now the ninty guys kan fight MK style. Everyone wins. It would be so funny if the xbox version looked better than the wii's (ewww what a terrible product name)
And if you are one of the people that say you are now ok with the name, please stop lying to yourself.

Where would you ever find a ridiculous picture like that?

Hey Robert,
Don't you find it ironic that Ed Boon is making a Mortal Kombat game for the wii after stating that it seemed impossible or unlikely to do so?

http://www.joystiq.com/2006/03/17/ed-boon-on-the-revolution-controller/

He pretty much suggested that the controller could either be a huge hit or a huge flop. Seems like someone read his statement and made him change his mind.

From the article on march 14th, 2006:

"GI: What about the Revolution controller, would you like to make a fighting game with that?

Boon: You know, I don’t know how you could. One of the things about the Revolution controller is that you don’t have immediate access to a whole bunch of buttons. It’s like your holding a television remote and you have that directional pad and you have a big A button next to it. But there’s not five or six buttons to give you all of these functions, so maybe they will compensate but tilting one way for blocking or another way for attack. But that is so dramatically different. So it will either be one of the biggest hits in the world or a big failure. I certainly hope it does well."

Money has a magical way of making game publishers and developers change their mind.

I'm sure once Boon realized the Wii would actually be successful, he changed his tune.

Thank God this news finally came out. I found out about a month ago about this version of the game. In fact I had lunch with one of the designers from High Voltage (the developer working on this port) who is working on this game. Despite working on the Charlie and the Chocolate Factory game, he seemed very competant. We had a very interesting discussion about the Wii controller and Smash Bros. The developer felt very strongly that the GCN controller would be better for fighting games than the Wii controller. He never told me if MK would utilize the Wii controller, but I wouldn't be surprised if it played with GCN controllers like the Wii Smash Bros.

I think they should at least use the Wiimote as a way to play the Motor Kombat mini-game. I think that'd be really neat.

Also, I'm glad this is coming to the Wii, and I'll probably get this version, as opposed to the PS2 version, unless the PS2 version comes out first.

It wouldn't be sensible to put Armageddeon on the Cube. The size of the disc would most likely result in the loss of features/characters and there would be no online mode.

As to SSB:Brawl 'taking the easy way out', the developers tested with the Wiimote and it was found to actually hamper the experience so I think going with the conventional controller is a good call on their part. I think it's just like the DS, just because the system has a touchscreen or microphone, it doesn't mean that every game has to use it just because it's there. That sort of thinking would actually make the Wii become the gimmicky machine that some people seem to think it is.

Wolfman, I second your thoughts about using all the features of a system. For example, New Super Mario Bros barely used any, and that was pretty damn well receieved. I hope developers don't feel like they must use all the axes and buttons and the pointer just because they're there.

I know many, many people who wanted SSBB to not have any Wiimote functionality, just to use the basics, and not motion sensitivity or any fancy stuff like that. I argued with them a bit, but in the end I think it's a better choice. Uh, but that's a little off-topic.

As for MK:A, or as I call it, Um-kay, I'm curious how they will build in functionality for it. I just hope they don't muck it up by doing too much/little.

Some of you are really delusional if you beleive that this game will be ported with the Wiimote controller in mind. They might tack on some controller option, but this game is a port. ie. Minimum amount of work for maximum amount of money.

If you want to conjure a fireball, would you need to use the Wiimote as a magic wand to shoot the fireball?
It would be interesting to see how you would use the Wiimote for fighting but it sounds possible for it to be easy to handle for combat in the game.A gay pic tough!

I'm sorry, but I am down right angry. If I had the chance to speak to Ed Boon myself I would. I am furious over how many times I've been screwed over by Mortal Kombat. I've been an avid MK fan since the beginning, and now in the final stretch, I am left out simply because I am a loyal Ninentdo Fan?! I was so upset it wasn't coming to Gamecube but I got over it, I mean come on it was going to the current generation consoles, my of course was being left out. BUT THEN I found out just how much of a hyppocrit Ed Boon can be. He was stated as saying he wasn't sure about the Wii, well of course. I mean come on, the controller alone would be hard for the game, but the Wii is not on this generation. It's the next generation. SO WAY TO GO BACK YOUR WORD. So at first i had to deal with being left out of the current generation models, and now i have to feel even worse because its going to the next generation console after gamecube which i won't be able to afford or recieve as a gift for a very long time. Thankyou mr.boon, my and many others loyalty to you awesome franchise has just been shit on.
