Isn't this just a copy of the Eyetoy from Sony?

Neat.

Was the eyetoy able to stream video while four people are playing online?

I suppose it and the eyetoy are both copies of webcams, which have been on the PC for a decade or more.

Correct, the eyetoy was the first webcam ever created, and this is a copy of that.

Plus Microsoft is copying all the online multiplayer games that the eyetoy can interface with

There were camera-based games long before Eyetoy. Gesturetek has been doing them since 95 and there were at leat two companies in the late 90's one was called ePlanet, and the other was something like Velocity or something. All Eyetoy did that was new was put it on a console and spend a bunch on marketing. And as someone pointed out, Webcams have been around a very long time. I had a camera on my Mac in the very early 90s.

Is there really that big a draw of watching people you're playing UNO and other XBLA online with? Couldnt you just go to the bar and play billiards or get some friends together to play UNO and get a much better experience going?

OK i may be going overboard a bit there... but i just dont see the draw of wanting to WATCH people you're playing games with...seems eerie to me.

Wow. To think, Sony time traveled back to 1999 when I bought my first web camera, erased the Intel name off it, changed the size and color completely, then called it Eyetoy years before even bring it out for the PS2.

The Eyetoy was the first web camera ever created? Jesus.

The appeal of this camera is going to be in-game functions. Any bets, in the future, we'll be able to peer around a corner in a FPS by just tilting to the left or right of the camera's line of sight?

Thats funny, because I mentioned this after talking to someone to the arcade team like 3 months ago, no new news to me... for reference www.optic360.com and go all the way back a few pages until I talk about the vision camera...

I love it how you people can't sense nick's sarcasm about the EyeToy. And what makes it funnier is that the people making rebuttals to his comment either just took it as truth and agreed with it or got all offended and condescending about it.

What is it today with you people and the massive branches in your asses? If you could actually purchase a sense of humor in a can, I'd suggest that you go pick yourself up a can or too, find a can opener, and fry that shit up with some butter. Or maybe margarin, it's healthier.

ANYWAY, back to the topic at hand... I absolutely believe that this camera is a copy of Sony's EyeToy (I don't care that there have been webcams for years... this is different and you all know it). But you know what? It's still no more copying than ANYTHING ELSE THAT HAS HELPED TO EVOLVE THE GAME INDUSTRY AS A WHOLE AND MAKE THINGS BETTER FOR YOU, THE GAMERS. So quit bitching. You people act like good ideas becoming standards is a bad thing.

I hope Nintendo and Sony have been keeping up with the options that have/haven't worked for Live. If all three consoles have online similar to Live (minus the charges), everyone wins.

This camera thing...eh, I'm sure people will find a way to make it fun, but I won't be hooking a camera up to any of my consoles. I hardly even like chatting with random people let alone projecting my image to them.

In the end, though, more options is better. Everyone can enjoy Live their own way.

I can't wait for Strip Texas Holdem Poker! I wish chicks will participate a little. They should even include a setting in supported games like "mature room" or "strip room" so you can search for them.

Maybe while they're patching the games to add webcam functionality they can fix the horrible, broken AI in Spades that renders the game virtually unplayable unless you have four human players.

JJ, I guess it depends how and why you play online.

As I advance towards 30 years old, I've found that my friends from college and those I've met over the internet, not to mention my relatives, are all over the country.

Do I want to videoconfence with 13 year old Halo players? No.

Would I like to see my friends and family once in a while while enjoying some Uno? Yeah.

Whether this is a copy of eyetoy or not is immaterial to me. All I see from this announcement is the phrase "Value Add" and that is good for me, the consumer. Why all the doom and gloom people? Like Rare Hare said, be happy for cool new stuff!

Oh, and to respond to the (typical) response "why not just get your friends togther in real life?!?" I say this: I live in NYC, my brother in Seattle. We both have 360s but very limited travel budgets. At least this way I'll get to see him once in a while since we don't see each other very often otherwise.

Those who poke fun at this addition to this service are those that are "HOPING" that Sony's Online service even matches a smidgeon of the functionality of XBOX LIVE.

"Sponsored by GAMESPY" word automatic reasons for me to avoid an Online game on PS2
