Second Life to introduce 'Expressive Puppeteering'
Second Life Insider reports that Linden Labs is working to release a new technology into Second Life dubbed, "Expressive Puppeteering." With EP, Second Lifers will be able to manipulate their avatars in real time, resulting in unique movements and gestures. These animations can be easily "learned" by avatars and presumably accessed with ease for repeated use. And, as Second Life Insider points out, EP could potentially crown Second Life the preferred medium for machinima artists.

Anybody else think this will lead to depicted deviant acts?

Oh yeah and by the way... NO ONE CARES ABOUT SECOND LIFE!

As for deviant acts - those are already plentiful in Second Life.

Second Life doesn't have good enough graphics for Machinema makers.

We get it. Really, we do. Now, if you have already submited the story to Joystiq, will you please stop talking about it on unrelated threads? It is getting rather annoying.

I want to punch that guy in the picture right in his face. His face, I tell you!

I love Second Life.. I really do, but here is the thing. There is this thing they keep saying that will improve the overall performance of the sims in the game. This is a little thing called Havok 2.
How about if Second Life starts improving upon the performance of the sims to acceptable levels. (Like being in a crowded room of avatars and still achive at least 20 frames per second)... on a midrange computer.
Mabye once Second Life achives this, then they should start adding new features to it's game.
Just my two cents.

I agree with you frodo, however, considering the alternatives, I would not aspire that high.

In real time? I can't even comprehend how this is going to be executed. I wonder if you'll create custom animations that can be accessed from a pop-up window. There doesn't seem to be a logical way to map the buttons for full "puppet-like" control in real time.
This is going to keep me up all night...

I think this could be the next wave of emote systems to come. I hope that they did a good job on this, because this could set a new bar in social gaming standards.
