Another Wii title is confirmed: Rampage
Midway confirmed today that the arcade title Rampage: Total Destruction would indeed be coming to Nintendo's Wii. No specific release date has been set, but the publisher says sometime in the "winter."Currently out on other consoles (including the GameCube), the Wii version is said to have 10 more monsters and seven additional city backgrounds. Should be interesting to see how the company utilizes the Wii controller for this one.

Is this something to be excited about?? Pretty sad
yay @ Aug 3rd 2006 10:37AM
LOL, I guess Wii fans have to take what they can get.
Alan @ Aug 3rd 2006 10:37AM
I agree with sdfaadfafdfadf. Greats news about Mortal Kombat for Ninty fans at least but this is just lazy on Midway's part.
darryl @ Aug 3rd 2006 10:40AM
...but! 10 MORE MONSTERS!!!
Paul P. @ Aug 3rd 2006 10:41AM
It's freaking Midway, of course there's nothing to be excited about. I don't know if you had this in elementary school, but while I was there in a class you got two grades. One for your actual scores, and one for effort, based on how hard the teacher thought you worked, how much of your work you completed, etcetera.
Midway would get a D for their actual games and probably worse for effort. At least, that's what I see from what they put out wvery year. Prove me wrong Midway.

Cue the lawsuits for repetitive stress injuries from punching out windows in 3... 2... 1...
Dracula Jones @ Aug 3rd 2006 10:41AM
I posted this over at Wii Fanboy, but really, what is Midway thinking releasing Rampage as a boxed game?:
Rampage games should be VC or XBLA games at best. They would sell tons with digital distribution, but who's going to buy Rampage now when it's sharing shelf space with real next gen games?
vidGuy @ Aug 3rd 2006 10:42AM
Depends on how you look at it. Personally, I think more games = better. Wii will have some great games, some good games, and some crappy games, but a bigger library is always a positive thing.
Wii seems to be really gaining steam here. Some 30 to 40 launch window titles and tons of early 2007 games have already been announced. Sounds like good things in Nintendo's future.

considering playstation claims victory by having the "largest game library" (of mostly below average titles in my and many reveiwer's opinions), I would say that any release of any title for any system adds points to that system's stance in this day in age. D level or not.
sony's quantity over quality library drew in MANY buyers. previously on the gamecube (which has the highest average rating for it's games but fewer titles overall by far) you may have seen this title skip the system.
anyone paying attention to the industry or working in a game store knows this to be the case.
excited? hardly, but it shows support for the system none the less. and i doubt this game will be/was expensive to make. if anything it will draw many downloads of the previous versions for increased revenue and Virtual Console downloads.
Ryan Williams @ Aug 3rd 2006 10:48AM
No guys, what are you talking about? The Wii might have a few bad games?! It's clearly doomed!
... ;)
Cabbage @ Aug 3rd 2006 10:53AM
Hopefully Midway read the reviews this game got for the other systems and made some improvements. I believe one of the gripes was in the controls, so with the Wiimote/Nunchuck action going on that might get better. Or worse.
Haston @ Aug 3rd 2006 10:59AM
Man...I wanted a nintendo revolution awhile ago..then it turned into the Wii..And I still thought I would get it..but then..I saw the "next gen" graphics on this thing..wow..I will just go rebuy a xbox and wave the controller around and save 150 bucks!
MED @ Aug 3rd 2006 11:14AM
Hopefully they will use the remote wisely. mabey you could toss things in the game using a throwing motion is real life, and jabbing with the nunckuck to punch things. anyway just a thought. any support is good support.
ViralArtist @ Aug 3rd 2006 11:39AM
Haston
graphics over gameplay? That's TOTALLY what games are about! -_-
Lucipher @ Aug 3rd 2006 11:48AM
i see this as a welcome addition to the wii's line up, as MED said "any support is good support". anyways, the rampage series has been around forever and will still be recognized by people that haven't been into gaming for the last decade or so and may sway them into picking up the wii for themselves, their children, or even their grand children. this could also be an awesome party game (if done properly).
SupaDave @ Aug 3rd 2006 11:52AM

How does waving a controller around compare to using the Wii? Waving the controller on the xbox doesn't do anything so your logic is idiotic.
You fanboys are stupid. Why can't you just wait and see. Personally, the Wii looks most importantly fun. The xbox 360 is all around a good machine. The PS3 looks overpriced but I'll wait until I see the actual games before I judge.
FSK405K @ Aug 3rd 2006 11:58AM
Awesome. I remember playing Rampage for hours and hours all those years ago. Now that it's being resurected, it's another reason I can't wait to get a Revoluti....frickin Wee. Why aren't you guys excited? The current version suck on other systems or something?
jimy @ Aug 3rd 2006 12:30PM
when will it be on xbox live arcade?
All Your Lost Socks @ Aug 3rd 2006 12:46PM
Thank you so much, FSK405K. Doesn't this factor into any of you guys' childhoods? The original game was totally rad! The game is basically really simple, and I would think it would be hard to screw up, so don't bash it until you have seen whether the new controller makes it frustrating or not. There's other games to be excited about.
Having just one game that doesn't live up to the others doesn't ruin the console - it just ads to the growing count of games backing the Wii.
eialba @ Aug 3rd 2006 1:28PM
haston's got a point. it's discouraging. nintendo revolution was awesome. even wii was cool. it did so well at e3! but now...to non-techies, it seems like buying it means getting left out of the next gen era. even really good looking games won't look as good as 360 or ps3 games (probably) and there's only so much glossy, kiddy-looking Mario tennis/golf/hoops/racing/fighting/whatever games you can take.
Rob O'Rourke @ Aug 3rd 2006 2:08PM
Amazing graphics aren't that important to me, gameplay is everything. I have the original game on my LYNX atari and it still gets played. While this should probably be on the DS or PSP it looks like its still gonna be good fun. Something nintendo understand very well.
Mr. Khan @ Aug 3rd 2006 4:43PM
I agree, this should've been released for VC and XBLA
Some people really need to wake up and figure out that for those of us (85% of market) who still have SDTVs the Wii will look very similar to the 360 and PS3,
Remember
Power alone won't win this competition, the Atari Jaguar was 64 bits compared to the Genesis' 16, and who did better?
Blaine @ Aug 3rd 2006 4:57PM
If it was announced today, that's fine.
I went to an EBGames yesterday to get a print out of the Wii SKUs they'll be taking pre-orders on (I was hoping for Bob Ross), and Rampage was on the list.
I figured I simply missed it being announced.
As well, EBGames has it listed as a $29.99 title.
I gave the print-out to my girlfriend, but maybe an employee can confirm it.
rainking187 @ Aug 4th 2006 12:28AM
"Why aren't you guys excited? The current version suck on other systems or something?"
Yes. I've played a few incarnations of Rampage, and always found it to be a terribly boring game. Somehow I doubt this version will be any better, even if it is next gen.
K1ller 1nst1nct @ Aug 6th 2006 12:53PM
If they had a game mode in Rampage that was like King of the Monsters, it would be even more fun. But going through 300 cities gets old by the 7th city.
