Can we please have a REAL Shining Force title Sega? In fact, Sega can you please release AAA quality titles again?

Hmm, judging from the battle screenshots, it doesn't look like a tactical rpg in the vein of Shining Force 1 and 2. What the heck is Sega thinking if that is the case?!? Stop ruining my memories of some of the best TRPGs ever made.

Will this be an actual turn based Shining Force game or a game like Shining Force Neo which was just a hack-n-slash?

@ Agent MOO

I know what you mean. It's like those stupid "Mastercard priceless" jokes that have been running for over 6 years and was never that clever to begin with. God, I wish they would stop milking that dumb campaign!! Let it go Mastercard. Please, let...it...go.

I remember playing the original Shining Force for the genesis fondly. Unfortunately, I have no idea what the sequels were, if they were any different, or if they were horrible. So I don't know the direction the series has taken.

Nonetheless, it's nice to know that a classic series is still going strong. Unless it isn't. Um.

I msut say that the game does look gorgeous. It may never make it out Japan's shores, but it one of those games that will be at tail end of mass marketing of a console that might be one of the best looking for the system. If you have ever played Terranigma for the SNES you would know what I am talking about. It is one of those too late, but OMG that is beautiful kinds of things you will play on the PS3 when it does finally get over here as a PS2 game.

Shining Force, Shining Force II, Shining Force CD and Shining Force III were all wonderful turn based RPGs, and I would recommend them to anyone... it's just a shame SEGA only released Shining Force III: Scenario One outside of Japan, and not Scenario Two/Three or the Premium Disc.

Another noteworthy Shining game was Shining The Holy Ark on the SEGA Saturn, which was a first person RPG with some wonderful quirks (for example it still had the square movement of the first game so you could only move to the next square rather than wherever you wanted).

As for other Shining games, I remember Shining Wisdom being pretty poor, and the GBA remake of Shining Force being excellent (although it is pretty much a carbon copy). All SEGA need to do is make another turn-based Shining Force game and i'll be happy. Unfortunately this one looks like a hack-n-slash to me... damn you SEGA!

SEGA used to be a pretty big player in the RPG market and then...crickets.

Just nothing. Phantasy Star, Shining Force, Panzer Dragoon Saga, even Shenmue (sort of). Phantasy Star and Shining Force have both been turned into dungeon crawler hack-n-slash games (albeit Phantasy Star is at least a good one). Shenmue has dropped out of existence...probably. And Panzer Dragoon, who knows?

Come on SEGA, you've got some great properties, all you have to do is leverage them!

And get Camelot to develop another Shining Force, damn it!

"We thought some of you might appreciate this attention to an old classic."

Yes, SHINING FORCE was a classic.

This steaming pile of effluence, however, is not.

Shining Force 3 was the last true Shining Force game, as since Camelot and Sega's falling out, every game that bears the Shining name (Shining Soul, Shining Tears, Neo) has been... well... imagine Nintendo handing over the reins for the Zelda series over to EA. Nuff said.

The Golden Sun titles have more in common with the Shining series (including the same composer) than any of the new Sega-developed titles. Anyone who's played Golden Sun and Shining the Holy Ark will know what I'm talking about.

#10: Shining Force 3 is possibly the greatest Shining Force game ever, probably the best tactical RPG ever, as well as one of the best RPG's ever, period. I suggest doing what my brother and I did... use the swap-disc trick to play the Japanese versions of Discs 2 and 3, following along with the translated scripts you can find online.

Yes, it IS a pain in the ass. And yes, it IS totally worth it.
