WoW joins emo kids on MySpace
If you just so happen to be a MySpace and World of Warcraft addict, then this is your lucky day. Blizzard has established their very own MySpace page dedicated to the most popular MMO round these parts. There are few cool features on the page, including buddy icons, trailers, art, and that kick-ass WoW theme music. It's a pretty cool looking site, and there's just something about that music that feels oh so very soothing.

Gotta love stereotypes, eh?
They're already on my friend list.
PayTheMan @ Aug 5th 2006 4:04PM
You have to understand that myspace has become a powerful communication tool. Even Al Gore utilized myspace for his movie 'An Inconvenient Truth'.

Every time I see an emo kid, I want to punch him in the mouth.

You have to understand that myspace has become a powerful communication tool. Even dickgirl loving peodphiles can drool over 14 year old jailbait while Al Gore utilized myspace for his movie 'An Inconvenient Truth'.

So close to being right, just replace communication with advertising

Are you sure Blizzard made this page? I think it's WoW fans' work
PayTheMan @ Aug 5th 2006 7:11PM
Of course Myspace is an advertising goldmine as well, but that part is obvious.
AJay17 @ Aug 5th 2006 7:17PM
The page has been up for a while, its not new. But thanks for the info.

number 10: "Are you sure Blizzard made this page? I think it's WoW fans' work"
dude...no way that is fans work...with the forum, the preview videos, the MUSIC player, concept art, the free trial links...and most of all the "skins" or "layouts" they have for you to put on your page.
if you honestly think this is fans work then i dont think you have used myspace much...and its in no way unusual for movies and games to have myspace pages.
most big movies have one, xbox 360 has one, and im sure wii and ps3 will have one.
this is genuine dude.
oh, and i added them to my friends!! thanks for letting us know joystiq!!

"Every time I see an ingorant videogamer perpetuating the stereotypes that people like Jack Thompson make examples of....

In response, I'd just like to say that I'm normally against the perpetuation of sterotypes. I generally think it's wrong to pass judgments on a person simply because of a factor which they cannot control, such as race, age, or social class. However, I maintain that making fun of emo kids is not stereotyping. If anything, it's simply "typing".
Wearing circulation-crippling pants and not washing your hair are not things that just happen. More often than not, they are things that are done specifically to conform to the particular image we have labeled "emo" (which, ironically, is supposedly a group made up of non-conformists).
Emo happens to be the popular "misunderstood" subculture of the generation. These subcultures are always, in my humble opinion, very irritating trends. Other examples are "goth" and the ever-popular "punk" (seemingly, emo is the bastard lovechild of these two). In all actuality, you could assume that the leather-clad biker rebels, such as Fonzi, fall into the same category.
In my observations, these groups tend to all stem from one thing. That thing is a period everyone faces in their adolescence. When a teenager reaches the period of his or life during which he or she begins to feel the need to rebel (or perhaps discover themselves and what sets them apart from other people... or society), they tend to explore and experiment with various social groups. Sadly enough, there appear to be those who never quite fit into any already established groups, existing for what is probably thousands of years based on varying mental and physical abilities between persons. Or maybe they just don't try hard enough, or they're too lazy, or they don't get enough attention at home. I really don't know. But anyway, this naturally leads to those "outsiders" assembling some collective of their own. Because, after all, where else are they to go? Little do they realize at this point in their lives that they do have the ability to be an individual person, free from the classification of society. Interestingly enough, though, individuality (or noncomformity) is what appears to be the driving concept behind most of these occurences. But I think that perhaps that touches on another subject best saved, for the purposes of brevity, for another day.
What all of this seems to result in is internal discussion of the reasons behind the formation of the group in question. As far as I can tell, said reasoning is a lack of social acceptance (for whatever reason... see above). What this translates as, to those of us who could really care less that these people don't feel wanted, is bitching. Thus, the repuation of an emo kid as a "whiner" is born.
Why they cut themselves I really couldn't tell you. Perhaps it's to relieve the deep emotional pain and strife or some other nonsense like that.
In short, and in conclusion, making fun of an emo kid is not stereotying. They give themselves the image, which is naturally percieved negatively by everyone else (whether it be because we don't really understand them, or because they're just effing weird). And the reason that I made the statement that I would, upon witnessing the presence of one, like to punch an emo kid in the mouth, is because perhaps the lack of teeth would make them stop the whining. And maybe -- just maybe -- it would knock some sense into them; such as "Wow, perhaps I've been a tad daft to assume that I could express my individuality by conforming to a group of self-made social misfits".
There you are. I can only hope that this comment has brought clarity to the logic behind my seemingly brash and unthoughtful comment made previously on this topic.
carg0 @ Aug 5th 2006 11:54PM
"Emo kid"??
Ah, so that's the new word going around for "loser"?
Joystiq: Keeping losers properly labled since 2004 : )

Guys, it's a joke, lighten up. I happen to like a lot of "emo" music.
Silent Xenocide @ Aug 6th 2006 3:12AM
It's not really stereotyping when it's true... I don't find how myspace can be that entertaining. It seems sorta boring.
Rare Hare @ Aug 6th 2006 3:13AM
"Guys, it's a joke, lighten up. I happen to like a lot of "emo" music."
Joke taken and enjoyed, Mr. Summa :).
I happen to own a Fall Out Boy CD, and I have several Panic! At The Disco songs downloaded onto my PC. The emo kids just really kinda freak me out a little, that's all :D.
Imadogg @ Aug 6th 2006 2:28PM
Haha there's a picture of an emo kid...
And nice long post Rare Hare, you have truly convinced me that it is not stereotyping to make fun of someone for being emo!
