I've always had a spread-out grip with the DS, and I find that I can hold both the original and the Lite without problem. I still have my Phat DS, because it works great and I'm not going to upgrade for aesthetic reasons, but I wouldn't ever be opposed to using the Lite.

One thing I wonder - do people that get hand cramps while playing DS have those problems during stylus-heavy games like Feel The Magic? I do note that there are some times (like Score Maker Pro in Daigasso Band Brothers) that you tremendously reduce stress on your hands if you rely on using the stylus.

Of course, the GBA vs. the GBA SP was another story. I don't care how gently you cradled that thing - either you didn't hold it well enough to press the buttons or you gave yourself a hand cramp if you have large hands, no two ways about it.

Pfft...the DS is perfection when compared to the PSP. I would get cramps from that thing all the time.

No matter what size something is, it will always be too large or too small for somebody.

Given that they make these things in the millions, and want to make them in different colors, it amazes me that they don't make them in different sizes, too. The DS Phat doesn't really count, since it is discontinued, and doesn't use all the same technology.

BTW, can somebody explain to me why people are getting rid of their DS Phats, to get Lites? I know size is an issue with a portable device, but I can't see how people can justify spending that kind of money to upgrade to a unit that is functionally identical to its predecessor. It seems to me that by the time everybody is done upgrading each generation of GameBoy, they may find they have spent $600 on them, not including accessories.

Why? B/c the screen is SIGNIFICANTLY brighter, it is A LOT lighter, it looks A LOT nicer and it smaller & not as bulky.

Personally I gave old DS to my g/f when my (import) enamel navy DS Lite came in.

I remember playing the original Mario Party for the N64- especially because of the skin dammage that game caused me whenever playing those "spin the control stick as fast as possible" games. I got a raw spot of skin about the size of a quarter on the palm of my right hand. It didn't hurt, but still looked bad and itched a bit. I soon realized that it was caused by the fact that I had been spinning the stick with my palm, something that really improved my performance (those where the only minigames I'd win, apart from the 'Push the ---- button as fast as possible' games, which I'd win by putting my hand into a seizure) but I later learned was contraindicated by the game manual. Honestly, who reads those?

hmmmm.. Perhaps the burn is from how powerful the DS Lite screen is!?

Start looking at 1min30. People who get cramps (and certainly the guy on the thumbnail) are holding it wrong. Don't grip it too tight. Works for me.

Mario Kart and the original DS were causing pain in my wrists, and I was recommended the product below. If you have the original DS and big hands, this is a nice thing to get...it also is a battery pack and doubles the amount of time you'll get out of a charge. The stylus you can ignore or throw away.

I have about average sized man hands and I find the DSL much more comfortable than the DSPhat. I always found the upper screen swinging up away from the hands to torque the DSPhat uncomfortably in my grip. The smaller, lighter DSL torques less.

I hold them both with pinkies along the bottom (unfortunately on the volume slider), ring and salute fingers on the back, and index fingers on the shoulders. I use the thumbstrap for Metroid and that's the only game that cramps me up. Whoever thought up the scan visor control location should be pistol whipped.

I find the Micro and PSP more comfortable to hold than either DS.

The phat DS has POINTS on the side!! I can imagine after a few hours of playing you could be BLEEDING! The Lite has a nice, smooth side. You'd have to mentally handicapped to hurt yourself with it. People just want to take away some of the Lite's tremendous thunder.

Played on a DS Lite for about 5 minutes at Walmart one day. Aside from the beautifully bright screen, I'm glad I have a DS Phat, because the Lite seemed to small for a manly man like me. Of course, maybe I'd get used to it like I got used to the GBA SP (cause that's small too).
