Oh and you know, the portal idea was just a blatant copy off Prey, Preys portal system was conceived in 1996.

Paul: portalling has been used in 3D games since the days of Descent, both overtly and covertly (it's great for reducing the amount of invisible stuff your graphics engine is rendering). In fact, if you play Forsaken for the PlayStation, there's a delightful use of portalling on one of the multiplayer maps.

Painkeep Arena for Quake3 has a better gravity well than that. Google for the mod.

Nutterbutter, HL1 did have portals but they only really became sort of under player control with the "teleport gun" from HL:Opposing Force.

As for the black hole rollermine, you can increase your quota of them up to five by doing the impulse 101 ammo cheat any time after you've used the previous cheat. Now if only I could get it to stop crashing...

"39. Hidden weapon, probably going to attempt to unveil it in episode 2... by which time they should have fixed the crashes (and perhaps the source engine stutter also ;P )"

Well, Episode 1 normally runs smooth for me, but using FRAPS slows down my computer immensely- hence the stuttering. With AA and HDR, 60fps normally will drop to 30fps with dips even lower, which is why that video was stuttering so much. I have never had any problems with VALVe like some people do, and blame them for stuttering (I'm not saying that they aren't PARTLY at fault, because it happens with some people with like 2 gigs of RAM).I used to have it back when I only had 512mb, and when I got a single gig it disappeared and load times got shorter.

To get as many of the "black hole grenades" as you want, enter the codes in this order:
hopwire_vortex 1
give weapon_hopwire
sv_cheats 1
sk_max_hopwire 100
impulse 101 (repeat this last one as necessary)

Aha, more source engine stuttering! I'm glad I'm not the only one affected by this.

What would be fun, is to have it modded to be used like a grenade gun, but it comes out of the gun and then detonates, and keeps flying. Or in a big arena have it be constant and bouncing around, for added mayham!

If you are still having stuttering problems, you should go check out the tweak guide on Tweakguides.net. HL2 runs smooth as silk my machine and I haven't had a stuttering problem since I found their guide.

WTF is everybody's idiocy about "Prey"? Just because one game uses another game's ideas, doesn't make it suck. As many people have already said, EVERY game copies the shotgun, pistol, etc. So tell me, Paul, who are they stealing that from? Oh, BTW, you're stealing your name from somebody else, so you're lame. Same reasoning you're using...

Excuse me did I say it sucked? No. I said it copied from Prey which I think is pretty unfair to the developers of Prey for Valve to potentially steal an idea that was idealised so many years ago and make money from it. Preys developers released videos of what they prey engine could do back in 1998 and it was exactly the same as what Valves portal game could do in their release. I just think it's stupid that people are wowed by the portal game when the same things were shown back in 1998.

I understand that Prey wasn't the first game to incorporate portals, however it was the first to include it as a main game concept and have certain properties that made it completely interactive with the user.

#51 (sockatume) you obviously don't know the difference between a teleport and a portal.

weapon_hopwire's name came originally from unofficially
released Beta version of HL2. In beta hopwire was a rope grenade. After throwing in jumps in midair and divides into seven balls tied in ropes, which means
that valve uses weapons that never ma de its way to official HL2.

I think that valve must surveil a bit their games, and fix too. 'cause in HL2 you can find unfinished or unseleclable weapons. Like in HL2 you can find:
weapon_alyxgun, weapon_annabelle, weapon_cubemap(beta enfinished weapon, no one knows how it got there)
and some strange models:
combine_super_soldier (never seen in game)
CrabSynth- monster_generic (game crashes when spawned)
Advisor and MortarSynth hav the same entity- cycler .
And they cannot be spawned during play.
And there some strange things with Mortar and Advisor,
if you approach them close and press E at them, their
animation will freeze, do the same to continue animation. Advisor is seen in the end talking to Breen,
go off-map to a big black cube to see him, and Crab and Mortar is seen in transportation belt in the end,
you'll need to go off-map as well. And some hell me to
in finding Super Soldiers entity name.
Actually Advisor intented to be mother of headcrabs, like Big Momma.

I remember a game from 1998 called descent 3 that had an actual missile devoted to this concept. Worked quite well in deathmatch. Didn't have to use cheats to get it either.
