Hey, I didn't know how to get this word out, but Gamestop may have hinted at the Wii's release date today. They updated the release date of two launch games, Ubi Soft's Rayman and Midway's Happy Feet both have a release date of Nov. 14. Nov. 19/20 was one of the code dates from Nintendo's press release that could have been a launch date for the Wii, and companies tend to release launch games the week before a system's release. With this in mind, the Wii's launch date looks to be November 19, despite Nintendo wanting to get a head start from Sony.

Does this mean I'm going to have to have sex with Lindsay Lohan? Please God say it aint so!

Lindsay Lohan? what?!

@HOUSE

Isn't Rayman going to be a launch title? so, wouldn't that make nov. 14th the launch date? It doesn't matter much, there have been numerous rumors on the launch date, and in the end the only thing that matters is what nintendo says, which hopefully we hear aug. 23rd.

Not gamers? How does me not caring make me a non-gamer? I don't work in the industry so I'm not going to be able to go to E3 anyway, the most I could hope for is watching it on G4 or something like that.

The media (places like Joystiq) are my only source of information of the goings-on in the booths and such. With the new E3, I still won't be able to go and others will. Those others will post the things they see and the things they hear and the games they play on the 'Net just like they've always done. And I'll get all the information I want just like I've always gotten.

So frankly, my dear, I just don't give a damn.

Nintendo WILL release before Sony. So expect the Wii before Nov 17th, I'd say as early as Oct 20.

HOUSE, if you are trying to contact Joystiq, use one of the links at the right under Resources. Specifically, http://www.joystiq.com/tips/

As for the E3 cancellation, it sucks because E3 weeks has always been the greatest for gaming, especially when new consoles are coming out. I'm hopeful that other games conferences will grow and take E3's place.

They should have just kicked out all the retail clerks. Make it a trade show. For press, buyers, and buisness.

I don't see how anyone could not miss the news overflow that poured out of E3 whilst it was going on and even after in the following months. New clips are still being shown around the net from the last E3! If you don't enjoy that then there must be something wrong with you.

Oh and please don't call me dear, it turns me on.

That's my point. New's articles. Clips. We could still get that because press would still be allowed in. People to post the stuff that they see and hear would still be going to the smaller conferences and showing us what they see and hear. So I don't see a loss. And because of that, I don't care.

I mean I'm not going to be missing anything because everything that is announced and shown at the smaller events will find it's way onto the Internet one way or another.

Ya know they wouldn't have to cancel E3 if they actually made it available to the public and let anyone buy a ticket. I've always wanted to go to E3, I guess that dream is crushed.

They could tour the country, kinda like a band and sell millions of tickets to people like me for a reasonable price. I see no harm in that, but I guess they'll never see this idea..

E3 has increasingly become nothing more than grounds for the big companies to wave their egos around as they try to out-do each other in the all-important "wow"-factor stakes, whilst increasingly remaining distanced from their real target audience. If changing the focus to smaller, intimately geared events helps to reconnect the general audience with the companies trying to sell their ideas and innovations, that can only be a good thing for pushing the market forwards.

Hey, #6, AKA Giant Food Monster. They already kicked out all the retail employees for the E3 2006. As a matter of fact, it was the final straw that broke the camels back that caused me to quit my part-time job at Gamestop. As a college student with his eyes set on game development having a job as a retail employee was the only way for me to attend E3, and I was more than a little upset to hear I was being barred entry. Apparently getting rid of retail employees wasn't enough to bail out the sinking ship of E3.

I'm guessing most people who voted "It sucks" haven't been to E3, and they just now feel they've lost their chance to go. But for those who have gone, they know that E3 really wasn't anything special and, in actuality, wasn't fun at all. It was just too many people crammed into too small of a space with food that is 5 times the amount you'd normally pay for it. And if they let the public buy tickets and go, they would need 3 more entire Los Angeles Convention Centers to accomodate that many people.

And you really don't get to learn much going to an E3. It's like a friend of mine said: you can get more information about the games from reading articles on the internet and downloading direct-feed gameplay footage. Before theinternet got really big, yeah, going to E3 meant something. But now, standing in line for 30-45 minutes waiting for someone to finally kindly let YOU try Okami isn't my idea of a way to experience the newest games. And all of the really good stuff, like press conferences and such, you can't get into anyhow.

I'm probably completely biased, though. I still can recall the first E3 I went to, long ago: open spaces, easy access to games, cool contests, and lots and lots and lots of free stuff. It's just not like that at all anymore.

How is that any different from Six Flags, or Disneyland? It's not. It's just no where else in the world does the experience center around video games unavailable to the public, and instead of Mickey Mouse or Bugs Bunny walking around you have John Carmack and Will Wright. (although not as willing to have their picture taken with you) No, listen not to this naysayer. E3 was a gamer's paradise and it's dead. I'm glad I got to attend one before the financial burden of one-upmanship killed it. Nothing beats standing on a stage, surrounded by several hundred people, playing a game on a 50 foot screen that won't be released for months, and winning to the elation of a screaming crowd at your back. Then walking away with a free copy of a game and a USB thumbdrive. I don't think anything will ever match that experience for me...

Multiple games, actually. Guild Wars, Ninja Gaiden and Dead or Alive 3 in particular at E3 of 2004. I played in every single tournament/contest I could find, and Team Ninja seemed to have the best for the most part. NCSoft was the most liberal with the prizes, though...

Too bad it's not canceled. Nice try convincing me otherwise joystiq LOL. Obviously you wish it was canceled, but it's not.

Also the example should have been the PS3 version of Smackdown, which was recently canceled by THQ in favor of the 360 version.
