StarCraft greatness: The perfect SCV Rush

Yeah, this is a bit old, but it certainly deserves another viewing -- especially if you are a StarCraft fan patiently waiting for a sequel. There's a YouTube video up of SlayerS_'BoxeR' and his destruction of a foe using only Terran SCVs. SCVs people! Do you understand how hardcore that is?
Watch as this magic man takes down defenseless Zerglings with his massive force of SCVs, not once blinking. This is no mortal, he is a God. In case one video of SlayerS_'Boxer' isn't enough to satisfy your blood thirst, here are a bunch more.

that was sweet! I rarely rush with SCVs (outa fear) but when I do it works out nicely.
Sinergy @ Aug 7th 2006 6:43PM
heh, man this brings back memories! Oh the long hours of playing Starcraft!! C'mon Blizzard SC2!!!
mike @ Aug 7th 2006 6:43PM
meh.. im not impressed. Ive seen much better SCV rushes. The zerg player simply tried to expand early and was discovered. Had he done something like ling rush instead, he could of easily won.
Miharu @ Aug 7th 2006 6:53PM
Damn SCV's. They're unfair because they have 60 hp when other races collectors have 40. Also SCV's can repair each other. And also marines are ranged so you can stack them behind the SCV's. Forget zerg rush, scv & marine rush FTW.

I installed Starcraft after watching this video lol

As a regular not at all good StarCraft gamer at least for me that was so fucking brilliant.

To "mike" (#3)
The SCV rusher is the Starcraft #1 world champion and the inventor and reigning king of high level SCV rushes. If you have seen better SCV rushes then it was just another video of the same guy in another tournament.
The Zerg player is one of the top Zerg players in the world. Anyone can say nonsense like "it's so obvious! If he'd just have done XXXXXX then he could easily have won!" when watching a video.

You're commenting on a blog site. You ARE a nerd. I guess putting your peers down makes you feel like you're somehow better. Well, you're not.

I just have to say that any nation that televises a videogame competition, complete with a huge studio audience, onscreen graphics, and cheering sections, possesses a truly civilized culture.
What this world needs is a World Cup of Halo. It'll end all wars, I'm telling you.

I hate to ruin everybody's fun, but there are obviously Terran Marines in the rush - hell you can even see them in the screencap posted here. It's still an amazing feat, but those SCVs had backup.
cyberfrog @ Aug 8th 2006 12:01AM
If memory serves correctly, that's obviously slayers boxer as terran and i believe the zerg was yellow (top level zerg player). This was an important match for some finals I believe.
Number 3... I don't understand what scv rush you saw was better but I believe you're being a bit silly. Boxer didn't just rush out on his own. Keeping an scv at the natural, once he saw the drone come out, he knew yellow was going for a 3-hatch late gas strat, which owns terran on that map. Seeing the situation, he immediatly rushed with scvs and marines. He also didn't attack blindly, but used scvs to block lings and dance the marines back. The video is poor quality, but in the original, you could see he microed just right to destroy the sunkens before they were completed. It was a tight play in an important match where quite a lot of money was on the line.

This post reminds of a play I first saw on sclegacy's pimpest plays of the year for section. The game was two toss and one side was going standard two gate dragoon build. The other player rushed with zealots (normally not a good plan) and a peon. The dragoon builder had his gates side by side (standard actually) and the zealot rusher built pylons in such a pattern that the goon was trapped when it came out of the gateway. What makes this play amazing was that it was developed very late in sc's lifetime, when people thought every strat had more or less been tried.
another classic play was done by boxer against patrick guillaume (XD's Grrrr, protoss, one of the first famous progamers). this was a highly anticipated match as boxer was on the rise of his skills and popularity. basically, boxer built a barracks and floated it to the back of Grrrs minline. It was placed just such that when the marine came out, it was protected and no units could reach it.
ah good times.
Draco @ Aug 8th 2006 12:18AM
Yeah after watching this, I actually went and downloaded a bunch of the pimpest moments or whatever there called, its a shame that there arent replays for all matches, (at least the tourny ones)
I enjoy watching the replays almost as much as playing lol... not sure why exactly.
I just watched the one in their 2005 pimpest, oneling, and it was amazing.

Zerg has to fast expo to get the gas needed to make mass muta and lurks and tech to hive. Almost every zerg fast expos. Thus Boxer was not lucky that the zerg tried it and was scouted. It was entirely standard. This was also the final game of the finals of the biggest korean tournament when they were drawn 2-2. The players were Boxer and Yellow, old rivals. The scv rush wasn't pure scv as was suggested above but it was still pretty incredible.
