A Dead Rising weapons guide [update 1]

We know a lot of you are foaming at the mouth to play Dead Rising, so how 'bout a little weapons guide to help nudge you along once you get your hands on it, huh? Check out this video that will walk you through a wide variety of goods found in the game.
Not only does the vid show you where some weapons are, but also some of the hilarious violence they unleash on mindless zombies. Our favorite weapon shown in this walkthrough? The jar of bees, easily. The chainsaw is an easy second, of course.
[Update: Here is the second weapons video.]

The Only Game I thought would win "E3 05", and just now everyone got into a frenzy over it. At least its comical and violent (and by violent i mean "Don't Tell Hillary Clinton" violent)
10/10!
Anteloptimus Prime @ Aug 8th 2006 10:24PM

qbix @ Aug 8th 2006 10:34PM
Ok, that's it, I'm getting this game.
Bryant Thomas @ Aug 8th 2006 10:34PM
This game makes me wanna go out right now and get a 360 just so I can kill me some zombies.
Dasutin @ Aug 8th 2006 10:37PM
This game is awesome! I love how you can pick up anything and use it as a weapon. The Bucket on the zombies head is great! also taking out zombie with the shopping cart is fun too!

Not to poo poo the game or anything, but those old Target screenies are absolutely beautiful... shame they couldn't achieve the same sort of lighting effects.
Mark B @ Aug 8th 2006 11:08PM
Even with the pretty graphics, this seems like the kind of game that would get very boring, very quickly.

noob @ Aug 8th 2006 11:41PM
have you played the demo? if not you really aren't in any position to talk...
that said it was a concern of mine too, but trust me you can sit there killing zombies for hours...
weezbs @ Aug 8th 2006 11:42PM
Unfortunately Mark B, Dead Rising is a really fun game and the general opinion on the game from people who have played the Demo is a very positive one. Maybe you should lay off the hatorade and check it out when you get a chance.
MadAlive8 @ Aug 9th 2006 12:01AM
ahh i wanted to pick this game up today but no one had it!
Copperhead @ Aug 9th 2006 12:25AM
Now here's one to go with Gears of War as a killer app for the 360.
Which is good, cause there hasn't been jack that made me buy on before now.
p-diddy @ Aug 9th 2006 12:29AM
I played the demo and Mark is right... you catch the train to dullsville and get there very quickly. Problem 1: the zombies respawn. I want to see an entire mall of carcasses. Instead, the Zombies just keep appearing so going back to where I was leaves me with no sense of satisfaction. Problem 2: killing zombie after zombie afer zombie is only so much fun for a little while. I know the demo is a sandbox and no real story is developed, but it was pretty dull.
But, these are my opinions and mine alone. If you enjoy it, well bully for you.

yeah I enjoy it. Actually im enjoying the hell out of it. Its the most fun videogame ive played in quite some time and with the B-Movie storyline the game actually feels like a spin-off of Dawn Of The Dead. No wonder the disclaimer on the box.
Judd @ Aug 9th 2006 1:11AM
Gonna agree with p-diddy. I had this game reserved and when I got the demo, I have to say I was a bit underwhelmed. Yea, I know you can pick up cool stuff like a Katana or a stuffed bear but at the end of the day you are just chucking stuff at them. I also know that you can make certain drinks using a blender or find magazines which allow you to know a good time to take a picture, but still does not seem like there is much to do. At first some of the ways the zombies reacted were funny but it got old fast. I might still pick it up, but I think I will just wait till it comes in used because that $64.20 will go by quickly.
Bob G. Smithe @ Aug 9th 2006 3:42AM
I've had the demo for a while now and can't wait to pick it up. The thing about demos that some people seem to forget is that it's but a small sampling, it's not really meant to be played for hours and hours on end.
jeff morefield @ Aug 9th 2006 4:14AM
I,m sorry but I think RE4 looks better and I know is a better game co`mon people who else thinks so?
zADD @ Aug 9th 2006 5:05AM
I won't watch this video, i still want to have some fun finding weapons myself.
jeff morefield: Who cares? I already finished RE4 some time ago and now i want to play this. Doesn't matter which game is "better".
Scoobydiesel @ Aug 9th 2006 5:27AM
after seeing so many people say how it will get boring i started to freak out about it becoming a borefest and what not, but i enjoyed the demo and went back to this being the main reason i bought my 360, i love the undead :-D
Nadinengland @ Aug 9th 2006 6:21AM
hahaha, umbrela!! thats awesome!
Finished.Law.School @ Aug 9th 2006 8:18AM
I really wish this game would come to PC.

Honestly, comparing apples and car doors is a better alternative. They're both shiny on occasion, but you wouldn't eat the door, nor would you expect the apple to keep you from falling out of your vehicle.
If that didn't get it through, I'll put it bluntly: they're two completely different games, covering different genres, creating different atmospheres, with the only link being the fact that they have zombies in them. Comparing them is stupid, and just to let you know, "looks better" is a terribly subjective and useless thing to say, considering that Dead Rising is generally brighter and smoother compared to RE4's dark, muddy look with very detailed environments and models.
dvddesign @ Aug 9th 2006 10:08AM
CAPCOM!!! PORT THIS TO THE WII!!! I'll gladly take a graphically reduced version of this game if I can act out some of that zombie enriched violence for the Wii.
A game like that is crying out to be ported to the Wii-mote.
fawazr @ Aug 9th 2006 10:28AM
@dvddesign
A game like this (with all the on-screen zombies and the memory demands) could never be on the Wii. I love me some Wii, but it just won't have the horsepower to provide the same kind of carnage.
Justin @ Aug 9th 2006 10:46AM
Honestly the demo only offers killing. This is by far not something would bode well for any demo. If a game like RE4 only had a demo that offered a begining and and ending cutscene and just through you in a room with countless ganado, would that be a good way to view the final product?
All I'm saying is for everyone that says the game got boring, I'd at least suggest renting the title to get a firmer grasp on what the game offers.
The demo was enough for me to goof off for 15 minutes and get an idea of the presentation of the game. Without any missions to do I felt thats all the demo was, a demo that gave you a look into the style and graphics of the gameplay.
dvddesign @ Aug 9th 2006 11:55AM
@fawazr
it's possible. I did mention a graphically reduced version would be more than acceptible. from all the screenshots and videos I've seen it's not as though they're piling them in by the millions onscreen.
I haven't played it, so I can't comment, but what's the biggest number anyone's faced at one time? Every video I see puts like maybe 30 of them tops in your path at any given time. Capcom doesn't have to do something like what others have wanted to try and have every renderable polygon rendered, even if it's not on screen.
GTA on the PS2/xbox seemed to be able to keep track of about 20 or so lower poly models, cars and people included. That's a 300mhz console with a 5 year old engine.
We have to stop thinking in terms of pure visuals as an excuse why a game isn't out or being planned on a console. The play mechanics and execution are completely possible on the Wii. It just won't be as pretty, which is fine with me. The game just cries out to be ported with it's variety of weapons.
Mal F4cti0n @ Aug 9th 2006 12:19PM
Well, seeing how you cannot leave the area or the demo
ends, and the other day the IGN article writer killed over 600 zombies, I think this could not be ported to Wii. There is no way the Wii would be able to keep track of all those individual zombie actions. Not too
mention all the zombies that are outside the door. You can shoot thru the glass and kill them too, so they were being modeled. If this was ported to the Wii, you would have a sh*tload of load screens.
My opinion.
This game was fun, I have played
thru the demo about 10 times now, maybe more. Though I am probably going to wait to get this used or after a price drop. I am keeping my slate clean for Emergence Day.
Veritas @ Aug 9th 2006 12:20PM
What you have to realize is that the demo only offers a very small fraction of the gameplay, that is to say it only offers the killing. There's still the crazy amount of missions, the NPC's to find and fight with, the storyline to follow, the leveling of skills, beating the game to unlock stuff, the unlockable survival mode (hell. yes.) I mean, jeez don't nay say it before you play it.
Justin @ Aug 9th 2006 12:54PM
Yeah as much as I love the idea of the Wii, a port of this would be very difficult, at least to display as many zombies on screen as seen. Although I do agree that swinging a wii remote like a bat to kill zombie foes would be hella cool.
cringer8 @ Aug 9th 2006 2:24PM
"this could never be on the Wii"
I'm sure some people thought that about the new CoD.
"don't criticize it until it's out"
Same could be said for the Wii. We don't know what "is" or "isn't" possible.
"this game would get boring"
Oh, come on. I'm sure the developers handled the "fun" factor just fine. This game looks like a blast.
steve @ Aug 11th 2006 4:50PM
I downloaded the demo when it hit the marketplace. I then went on to play it about 10 times. At first it was amazing, then it slowly got boring.
*this is where you nay-sayers listen*
Really wanting a good game, I went and bought it on the 10th. Played it from 5:30pm until around 2:00am. Yesterday I got about 4 hours in and I can't wait to play it tonight. The demo gets boring. There is no plot.
If you like the basic play; i.e. you play the demo and it is amazing the first time through, you will love the whole game. I got about 3/4 of the way through to a mission that is very hard with many houndreds of zombies in an access tunnel (no more details to give it away), with only the weapons I had with me. There were no new weapons and I had to make it about a half mile through hordes of zombies. Of course I died and had to go back to a previous save point. But I realized that my character wasn't strong enough to get through this, so I started the game over with my character's skill levels intact. But in the first time through, I realized there is sooooo much stuff that you can do. Between rescuing people and beating bosses, you won't have enough time to do 1/10th of it in your first time through. But the thing is, the game makes you want to go back and do those things.
I hope this helped people who are worried about this game getting boring. If you liked the gameplay of the demo, you will love the game. Two points of advice though. Learn where the bathrooms are and learn how to use the map.
Ryan @ Aug 12th 2006 8:02PM
This game is really good. You have to play the retail version to understand how much there is to do. By the way this is only going to be on the Xbox 360, says so right on the cover.
Constan @ Nov 2nd 2006 3:45PM
Rent the game, before buying it. The demo doesnt show that this type of gameplay was never seen before. It definitely has a storyline and its not all about zombie killing. Having to save people, do missions, kill zombies at the same time and having to check your clock, so you are not late to continue your mission... feels good. Its a little hard i can admit... But it realizes what is called freedom and not linear gameplay. You decide if you spend 5 min to get to another plaza for a couple of health drinks and a shotgun to go and kill a boss or you just take a plant and a couple of chips and go kill the same one.
But still... HARD game
dead boring @ Nov 10th 2006 3:20PM
got the game and YAWWWWNNN, boring.
nothing new to offer other than being able to display a large about of zombies on the screen at once.
gameplay is repetative and boring, if you are a real zombie then you will not have a problem bashing zombies with a golf stick for hours. me i found it BORING and its staying up on my shelf.
