Sony adds five PS2 "Greatest Hits" titles to the dynasty

Five more games were announced today as PS2 "Greatest Hits" titles bringing the total number of $20 games from 169 to 174 on the platform. That's a lot of hits. The newly repackaged games are: Shadow of the Colossus, Sly 3: Honor Among Thieves, SOCOM 3, Jak X: Combat Racing, and Ratchet: Deadlocked.

Price sensitive and Sony late mover duos only: for $600 bucks, you could get a PS2 and a whopping 23 "Greatest Hit" games instead of a PS3.

why even bring up a ps3 ? um .. . 20 bucks to play a game on ps2 that'll run you 90-150 bucks, or 20 bucks for a game on a ps3 that'll cost you 500-600 bucks.. . what reason is in your argument ? fuckin' fanboys.. .

anyways.. . shadow of the colossus is an amazing game.. . if anyone hasn't played it you're missing out .. .

Fagaymer nailed it. Although the PS3 is a little more expensive, YOu still have a huge backcompatible lbrary, unlike "microshaft" lol. And, I think you should probably update your math there Blake Snow, seeing as there is a $500 version, that still has more features than the competitions.

Ethan man, how can you even stick up for something you don't own and haven't used yet? Have you made sure the backwards compatibility is 100% or even close for the PS3? Until I see a retail unit that works with old games I'm calling shenanigans. I don't see how you can blindly follow a company's promises that haven't even been backed up by people who play games.

Also, how are you trashing the 360 on backwards compatibility? What games aren't on the back compat list that you want to play on the XBOX 360?

Josh man, Sony has officially stated that they have every game working on both versions of the PS3, with the exception of like 40 PS1 titles that no one even knew about. AND THEY STILL ARE GOING TO SEE IF THEY CAN GET THOSE WORKING. You want to know what xbox 1 games arent working on the 360? about 3/4 on the premium, and every single freaking one on the core.

Ethan, I re-iterate:

Please show me a retail PS3 running with proof of this claim and I'll gladly eat my words. In the meantime, it's great the only things that seem to be a problem are PS1 games, which should definitely be a huge market and concern for potential console buyers (not).

If you're going to trash Microsoft's stance on backwards compatibility, it's simply an uphill battle. At least get your facts straight--Peter More himself has stated:

"It's quite simply not that we don't care about backward compat[ibility]. Boy, do we care about backward compat[ibility] ... We're going to get darn close to that stated goal of every title done."

Ken Kutaragi himself has confirmed what I am saying, and trust me, he HAS seen a running PS3 with back compat working. And Peter Moore will never achieve what he is stating, since only the premium 360 even supports any backwards compatibility.

My PS2 doesn't even play all PS2 games. I can't even get a multitap it works properly with. I have to turn it on, then plug in the multitap or it locks up and makes nasty noises. This is the latest model of the slim PS2 I'm talking about. So the PS2 can't even play PS2 games. That's lamer than the 360 having a limited back-compat list.

Games I had for Xbox but traded for other versions after the first compat list, and are still not on the list:
Burnout 3
Beyond Good & Evil
Def Jam: Fight For New York
NBA Live 2005
Soul Calibur 2

If they get even half of the first list working - hell, just Marvel vs Capcom 2, Orta and MechAssault - I'll trade my Xbox in and finally get a 360.

Putting a 360 on top of my Xbox is not a solution for me, unfortunately. I'm going to need every dollar I can squeeze in trades and sales to afford even the uncrippled 360, much less new games for it.

if they were comments that strayed from the post, then I wouldnt. But they were comments that added to the post, and the comment that the poster made at the end of said posters post. THe poster added a completely unrelated comment at the end of a PS2 post, that had nothing to do with the PS2, and everything to do with the price of the PS3.

I believe they are going to initially include ps2 hardware and try emulation later. So I don't think there is as much uncertainty.

I picked up Shadow of the Colossus at Best Buy last week for $20. That's the beauty of the greatest hits announcements. It was announced a couple weeks ago that it was going on the list, so the price ended up getting dropped right away. I picked up a copy without the big red "Greatest Hits" cover at the same price. Woot for me!

if i buy an xbox and a premium xbox 360, wouldn't that be the same as buying a core PS3 or even cheaper than a premium PS3. Just go out and buy an xbox if you want to play xbox games.

Oh. Yeah. I'm sure pissed I can't play last gen games on my current gen system. I guess I'll have to kill myself. Or, you know, just play them on the Xbox.

The thing is, I was only 16 when I bought my Xbox 360 (So long ago, right? Like, what, five months (Australia) ago?), and I paid $1000 USD just for the premium two games and a controller (Shipping costs boost the price by about 1.5 times), not to mention the $400 USD for the original Xbox I bought when I was around 13 or 14.

Now, I'm not rich. Far from it. But even I manage to handle buying some consoles (Then again, I don't have the fun of paying for a family. But I don't have a very high income, either). Anyone who has a problem with the PS3 price, get over it. I don't care that it's going to cost a lot. Until you get to live in the technically retard country that is Australia, shut the funk up.

Now, if you have to be a fanboy, be less vocal about it. I assume no-one here gives a crap about your over zealous thoughts.

I don't really want a PS3, but I love FF games and Kingdom Hearts so much, I'm not sure I could even read reviews of either on the PS3 without owning one. I don't really want a XBox 360, I just don't care for sports games and shooters, but I really want a Wii, so I think I'll get a Wii, and wait two years to buy a PS3 once the kinks are all worked out and Square Enix has released a few games.
