Captain Obvious: Camp Hyrule says Wii won't exceed $250
Apparently, we have a lot of very excited little campers, because just about every single one of the Camp Hyrule participants has flooded our inbox with the fact that it mentions in some legal writing area that the Wii will not exceed $250 -- you see at Camp Hyrule they are giving away a Wii as a prize.Thank goodness Captain Obvious is here at Joystiq to calm everyone down. Listen, fans, we understand your excitement at every little bit of Nintendo info that squeezes out into the Internets. But, when you see something that's already been stated months before -- and a few times we might add -- it's pretty safe to say that we already knew the Wii wouldn't exceed $250.
Phew. Another case solved by Captain Obvious. Thanks Cap.

I can't wait until the $299 MSRP is announced.
Huzzah!! @ Aug 9th 2006 9:06PM
Cappy, Can I PLEASE get a link to where it says that? I just dont beleive it.
Seriously, I cant see anything like that on the Camp Hyrule site. I wish I was kidding....

if you were a REAL nintendo ( just for the record i personnally hate nintendo but thought it would be cool to have the 1st post) then you should have known better to believe anything like that in the 1st place
Andrew @ Aug 9th 2006 9:09PM
There's no reason to hate Nintendo. They're the gaming company that makes games. They don't make shoddy products like Sony (You, your PS2 has had DREs that you had to pay to fix without voiding your warranty) and they are not the "mega evil" corporation that Microsoft is.
Nintendo makes great games, and they're going to make the biggest comeback the industry has ever seen with the Wii.
Huzzah!! @ Aug 9th 2006 9:22PM
Amen to that, Andrew!
Dr. Tubesteak @ Aug 9th 2006 9:29PM
Andrew, we all know that "mega evil" consoles are the best kind of consoles.

I bet the Xbox 360 will come in two different formulas. There will be one for $299.99 and one for $399.99. I hope im right. I could get a big time blog jobe. Hell I might even get a star one day.
Bill @ Aug 9th 2006 9:29PM
Nintendo also makes crap hardware. That's why they're already nearly out of the console business and will soon be after the vastly underpowered Wii flops.
Nintendo doesn't care about powerful hardware. I do. Therefore I guess, Nintendo and I are incompatible.

NES could you please make sense the next time you make a comment. Myself and many others included have no idea what you just said. --------------------------------------------------
Bill please don't make commments if they lack any intelligence at all. First of all no one here knows what this "crap hardware" is. Secondly, for the most part nes, snes, n64, and gamecube are all well built systems, and the handhelds. All of Nintendo's consoles have been top notch graphically from NES to Gamecube. If you didn't know the Gamecube is a stronger and better graphically system than the PS2.
Also where did you hear Nintendo was out of the Console Business? Really post a link because from what I'm reading things are going fine, not well, but fine.
You say pretty much as arrogantly and stupidly as humanly possible that the "VaStLy UnDeRpOwErEd" Wii will "flop". Those are some big words for a fanboy of whatever you love. If you read any news, or even this site, you'd realize a bucket load of developers have signed onto the Wii, including about 7 announced games from Midway (including Mortal Kombat) and about 7 announced games from Ubisoft (In addition to Red Steel). And that's just the tip of the iceberg. Nintendo has the highest chance of making the most money with this new generation because being the second choice of everyone, 360 owners will buy one, and ps3 owners will buy one, so for every 360 there could be a Wii and for every ps3 there could be a Wii. (I hope you can do the math, or are we going to claim Pythagoras lied about everything and he's 100% wrong and he wasn't cool?)
The only okay thing you said was your last statement which is completely fine and you should have just left your comment to that. But even that was pretty bad because you felt drived to stick in that cocky *look at me I'm smart I use big words* redundantly aggravating comment.
Bill you seriously need to watch what you say or type because no one wants to read or hear a completely biased, unintelligent, rude, and *look at me I'm smarter than you I use words like "therefore"* kind of comment.

Am I the only one that thinks that Wii even at $229 is suspect considering that some developers suggested that the Wii could launch as low as $149.
I understand the Wiimote is supposed to usher in a new era of gaming but for $229 can it come with a game or some other swag?
GSI @ Aug 10th 2006 1:22AM
"I can't wait until the $299 MSRP is announced."
Ahh...another stupid statement by Darryl.
For all the people who think the Wii will be $299...you must be living under a rock b/c Nintendo has already said it would be below $250.
"Nintendo also makes crap hardware. That's why they're already nearly out of the console business and will soon be after the vastly underpowered Wii flops."
Really now? So explain to me why the Gamecube had about the same about graphics power as the original Xbox (and BOTH were neck-in-neck in sales btw.)
Plus explain to me why there are NES systems that STILL work without having to be repaired...same goes for SNES systems & N64 systems.
Nintendo was making money on the Gamecube BEFORE Sony & Microsoft were and have been for some time. They are no danger of going bankrupt.
teknotom @ Aug 10th 2006 7:15AM
$250. Using the crazy-game-company exchange rate, I think we're looking at £179.99 UK. I can live with that.
. @ Aug 10th 2006 8:52AM
@8
I agree with Nintendo making crap hardware. I'd prefer them taking the SEGA route and produce software only. I don't know why they try to capture hardware sales because they obviously don't know what they are doing.
I think I will buy a Wii once it's $100 and deemed a decent console.
Oh, and the whole "KID" theme. That's why I don't buy Nintendo stuff up front.
John Lucas @ Aug 10th 2006 9:24AM
Two Hundred United States Dollars.
Say it with me everybody:
TWO HUNDRED UNITED STATES DOLLARS.
$200.00
Popularly known as $199.99.
That is the price of the Wii.
That is ALWAYS the price of a Nintendo console.
And that SHOULD be the price of ANY videogame console.
Enough of the silly speculation.
Read your Nintendo history.

Good man. His post deserves at LEAST 4 stars 'cause he told it like I-T-I-S.
Those in the know know dadgum well that Nintendo is dominant in the Seventh Generation of home videogame consoles.
$250.00 can only be a special bundle pack at BEST.

Jason W @ Aug 10th 2006 9:28AM
To be honest i didnt care much about the WII since I was happy with my 360. But lastnight after I finished a hour of Galga and Pacman and then popped in Dead Rising I thought how cool it would be to have a system that could play all the old games as well. Nintendo has the best back catalog of any single company. Now that Sega is on board and so is alot of old great game companies the WII would be great for just the backwards compat alone.
Now pair that with some nice Newer style WII games and a interesting DS like control system and you have a winner. It may never make my 360 look bad with regards to graphics but it will be a fun experience either way. $199.99 and I buy it day one, $250.00 I buy it when there are alot of great backwards games on it.

They are just as evil as Sony and Microsoft.

I dare you to try and back up the "Nintendo makes crap hardware" argument.
Plus you don't buy Nintendo stuff b/c it's "kiddie"...then you are not a gamer.
Nintendo's King @ Aug 11th 2006 6:12AM
For all the people that say, "Nintendo makes crap hardware" LOL. Then tell me this how is it that the DS is killing the PSP, and then tell me this how is it that the NES, SNES, N64, and Game Cube and all the Game Boys with the DS sell more than all SEGA consoles.
SEGA and the PSP are more powerful than whatever Nintendo put out. Then why Nintendo sells is SO BIG!
Jacob @ Aug 14th 2006 8:09PM
Nintendo should do well if they have a solid game library. Sony and Microsoft aren't making much profit, if any, with their expensive consoles and lack of in-house game development. It's hard to create loyalty without true franchises like Mario, Sonic, or Zelda. That's probably why Sony and Microsoft can't "afford" to create a less-powerful and less expensive console. Their primary appeal is graphics not gameplay. That's not to say neither company has provided some good games. It's just not their forte. X-Box 360 has the weakest game library I've ever seen for a highly anticipated console in a long time. It's about gameplay not graphics for me. I appreciate nice graphics but if the game play is wack and the camera angles suck, then why bother with pretty graphics. If Nintendo works on improving their sports, first-person shooter, racing, and fighting games then they'll be fine. Nintendo has always been weak with sports. Sega used to crush them in sports.
NES @ Aug 16th 2006 3:47PM
since when isnt nintendo EVIL uhhh dont forget how they started they were way more evil then how xbox started they had it so no 3rd party publisher could make games for any system...on top of that some publishers werent getting paid....I can see that a lot of poeple on the nintendo bandwagon that bash xbox really dont know nintendos true roots....If nintendo tried to do what they did then it would be like Ea with football execpt every developer with every 3rd party game
Talon Leuco @ Aug 18th 2006 4:07AM
Look, nintendo does and always has made quality hardware, as for not haveing many third party publishers make the games for other consoles earlier on, noone did! I mean sure, some rights changed hands, but not often share them such as megaman and
final fantasy. and as for the EA comment, you can't compare a unique game to a sport, you just can't, what ea did was sneaky, and i think, wrong, they bought the rights to an entire sport! thats much larger than any unique game.
now as for the "kiddie" games and theames, I personaly think that nintendo has realized one very important thing,if the older gamers are already loyal to a system, there is virtually no chance of conversion. they are drawing in nezt generation games(and i mean age generation not console generation) starting the young ones off into nintendo so they will later become loyal fans. they see that the people who already slipped through their fingers are not worth trieing to pick up, the truth is, nintendo does have a nice selection of both "kiddie" and adult/teenage games. they are marketing for the future, not trying to get rare converts from the present. wow that was entirely longer then i intended, my point is, nintendo has plenty of good titles. I've been a harcore nintendo fan scince i was little, for me the age of videogames started with tetris and the legend of zelda, granted that is because whist i was 4 or five thats all my much older sisters played, but still... Nintendo freakin rocks, thats my opinion, and regardless of your opinion, you guys can't go flingin around assults that you cant back up with a shred of evidence.
