Famitsu: Two more titles dropped for PS3

According to Gameworld Network, the latest issue of Japanese gaming magazine Famitsu has the scoop that two more PlayStation 3 titles have been put to rest. Both from FROM Software, Dark RPG and Black Blade have been tossed in ye olde PS3 trash can -- which seems to be getting full at the moment.

While we haven't heard much about these titles to begin with, they were announced last year at the Tokyo Games Show as PS3 offerings that were planned for release.

Why are games being cancelled for the PS3?

Because of the cost of the PS3? The cost of development for yet another console? Is the PS3 difficult to program? Are companies simply consolidating their offerings?

After this "unbiased report" I don't think anyone can make the case that Joystiq isn't strongly anti-Sony.

Can you say 'sensationalistic'? None of this means anything - most of the cancellations had more to do with the devs than the system... And the general downturn in the industry. Let's see how many XBOX games have been dropped in production? I worked on two SNES games that were dropped mid-production, I guess that means the SNES was a failure.

Joystiq = Nintendo's lapdog.

I love FROM Software they support the xbox with good game like metal wulf chaos, Otogi and Otogi 2. For the 360 ChromeHounds and Enchanted Arms. All there games are goo and fun. Otogi was a great game and metal wulf is a mech game only in japan. ChromeHounds is cool and has a deep online play. Enchanted Arms is the first next JRPG and i got great reviews in japan. I really like From Software.

At this stage in the life cycle of a console it is not really that beneficial for developers to flood a console with less than "should be AAA" titles. When a console has been out for a while and the user base has more than few million users, then devs will start to push out titles that are not necessarily billed as AAA titles. That’s how it is for all consoles.

Also, not to rip Joystiq here but reporting PS3 cancellations gets them a ton more traffic (or at least more comments) than reporting the cancellation of a Wii or 360 game. PS3 brings out the fanboys from all sides in an on going battle of who can be the king of blind faith. Its good business for Joystiq.

Ha Ha sony sucks and ps3 will fail mark my words baby!! Yeah... Ok enough childish ranting. But honestly these games no one really heard of, at least i didnt. I just want to see the 360 win because I really like how ms has listened to what gamers want instead of telling us what we want like sony. I have no problems with nintendo but the name change was a huge mistake, the graphics are a huge mistake and the games look not so deep or challenging plus they have to sell a brand new control method to america. I dont know how they plan to do it, but even if it works out you still have the low budget crappy graphics.

Where in this blog entry do you see anything that specifically says that they are happy the games are canceled, or anything that suggests it? Methinks someone is a sony fanboy ;)

It's pretty funny that 2 games that we've never heard of, that most likely wouldn't even come to US, that are not even confirmed to be cancelled are a big deal.

No one is making a big deal about the fact that Armored Core 4 is now MIA for 360, and is a launch title for the PS3. Isn't it interesting that it's from... well FROM software?!?

I find it hilarious that PS3 supporters still attempt to diminish any type of bad news from SonyLand.

The fact is that From software makes exactly the type of software that you all claim sells consoles in Japan, yet here you have 2 of those titles thath ave been axed. Otogi 1/2 and Chromehounds were all great games and the Armored Core series must be doing well since they're making a 4th one.

Devs dropping titles for an upcoming console that's supposed to be a guaranteed success isn't a good thing and indicates a real problem.

This site handpicks the info they want, and no matter how insignificant it is, they blow it up into something more than it is. You can scream "facts" all you want. It's fanboyism. And the rest of us have as much right to be here as they do. If we think the coverage is biased (and holy crap is it ever biased) you're going to hear about it.

You guys seem to overlook the fact that pretty much all of the games that have been canceled have never had anything other than a paragraph or two told about them, or a fancy CG video. As someone posted earlier, it really doesnt make sense to keep working on a non AAA title for a system launch because its not going to sell well in the first place. Let it sit on the backburner for a while and then unleash it on the world later in the ps3's lifecycle.

I dont get what you guys are worried about anyway, how are you going to afford 20+ games at launch? Your not, your going to buy whats good. So who cares if these games, which were obviously not going to turn out well (hence canceled) were canned? no one.

Oh and its not about joystiq being anti-sony by reporting that a game had been canceled for the system, its the sinking ship. Still funny though.

OOooh no, Joystiq aren't anti sony. They just pro-Nintendo and anti-everything else. MS get the same treatment too. They like to inflame MS/Sony Fanboy to create more hit for the site. But hey it's still a blogging site. Although wording are highly bias to Nintendo, but it's still ok, if you are not a fanboy and not in denial, You can clearly see through it.

100 days from Launch and no sign of the PS3. The only scenario that makes any sense to me is the PS3 may not be all they promised and Sony’s playing for time.

If I were Sony and I had a fantastic console that was getting this much bad press just before launch, I would call a press conference and put everyone’s mind at ease. I would demonstrate it and let the press have a go at my demo’s. Surely I have demo’s this close to launch; even one would suffice. Unless maybe something’s gone terribly wrong that I could not have foreseen.

Sony seems a little to much like the 16 year old standing in his front yard looking at the dent on his father’s car, knowing he will have to tell dad about it eventually. But he just can’t seem to bring himself to do it, knowing the likely consequences. Maybe he won’t notice if I don’t say anything?

Like I said earlier, just what is this system launching with? Armored Core is not even a definite launch title, they say launch or shortly after.

Are people gonna buy their PS3's in Nov with no games to play on it?

There is no use complaining about Joystiq beeing anti Sony or whatever. Its a tabloid site and they make sensational headlines to get clicks from people.

Think of Joystiq more as a place to come and read ridiculous and low quality sensationalistic news.

If you want to read serious news go read gamesindustry.biz or something similar, just dont expect anything you read here to have any merit.

By the way, it seems the Joystiq staff are a bit unstable with respect to who they side with. Some folk are so anti-nintendo and add snarky remarks, while others seem to praise nintendo. But I must admit, when there's a snarky remark against nintendo, it really can get nasty.

Honestly though, I hardly notice as many snarky remarks from staff in blog postings related to Microsoft or Sony. Even this blog entry's "Trash Can" is less of an opinion since, there seems to be a list of games (as provided) that were canned.

Perhaps it's just a random thing with Microsoft being on the hit-list next :)

Well, we will all never know what the future will be until it happens. I mean this pretty much reminds of Nintendo[NES]/Sega[Genesis] = Nintendo,..... Sony[PS1]/Sega[DC]= Sony,..... Sony[PS2]/MS[XBOX]/Nintendo[GC] = Sony,..... Sony[PSP]/Nintendo[DS] = Nintendo; now it's just continues with Nintendo/Sony/MS. But it seems like MS pretty lost. The 360 can't even out sell an old gen system (PS2).

I am not too impressed with the new gen systems.
PS3 is overpriced and is used only to booster blu ray not games.
360- none of the games really excite more and ones that do are on the pc... minus dead rising cause that just looks fun.
wii is a legal emulator for old systems that you can play on tv with limited choice of games. and a controller worse than the colecovision controller.

Its funny to me how all the MS fanboys JUMP on any article that 'spells the doom' of Sony, are you guys that afraid?. MS just wants your money just like sony, they DON'T listen to the gamers. Halo2 ONLY on VISTA? Forcing you to upgrade windows every few years, Win98 --2000--XP---and now Vista. Stop saying MS cares because they don't.

Im not totally against MS. BUT really i think most of the MS fanboys are just a little nervous because of the 'summer' drought of games. you can point me to GRAW and Oblivion but i have a PC that runs those games beautifully. I dont need a 360 for those games. The ONLY game that dropped my jaw was Fight Night 3. That game looked awesome. PGR you say? well thats a very beautiful game too but not what i would call MS must haves. Dead or Alive? Thats been dead since it went from Dreamcast to Sony's system. At least for me it is. Im not too fond of Team Ninja and their "only work on the best system mentality" why? because you cant code your OWN programs? thats right Dead or Alive was founded on SEGA's Virtua FIghter engine.

Anyhow all we can do is wait and see what sony has to offer. I myself dont need to purchase a 360 because my bro has it and frankly, he hasnt touched it since PGR and Chrome Hounds. Thats not a really good sign of "MS' superior" system. MS Live is very nice tho. I do like that, BUT i don't like when MS fans are like "SOny is copying" Sony stated a while back that the PS3 was going to go for a 'more' centralized network, although how centralized we have yet to see.
It really doesnt matter tho, all Sony has to do is come up with decent enough network and it'll work.

Anywhoo theres goes my rant, MS fanbois enjoy :) im gonna go play some ps2 that sony is STILL supporting, wait didnt MS already abandon the original Xbox?? Yup thats great support for its gamers(insert sarcastic voice) lol some food for thought.

As a Wii enthusiast, I get annoyed when I see every Wii article saying "but what about the graphics??" so I sympathize with PS3 enthusiasts getting annoyed that every article focuses on the so-called "sinking ship" syndrome of the PS3.

Fanboys of every system are going to see something they don't like here. I wouldn't say that Joystiq is biased one way or another, but the same can't be said of the bloggers.

Joysitq, in many ways, is anti-everything. Almost every post about the Wii mentions the "current-gen" graphics, every article about the 360 mentions hardware problems or the brick of a power adapter (not so much anymore though) and every article about the PS3 mentions the unexpected drop in support. I think it's an attempt to be "balanced."

Yes, in fact, three games for Xbox 360 have been canceled.
Of course some rabid fanboy will crawl out of his dungeon of pain and suffering (his moms basement) and proclaim that he is glad they canceled those games due to them being crap!

These are the ones I bothered with finding, there are a few more that I can remember though, but that list should suffice.

This is what Joystiq does though... They're not interested in "gaming" per se... Nintendo garbage, yes... that's the scope of their gaming gamut. They just hope and pray for any "news" that they can spin into an anti-Sony, anti-MS direction. They love those web hits. Glad I use adblock, no dirty ad revenue for you!

Big deal, games are getting cancelled all the time on all systems. Many devs announce they are working on something, but then end up not even starting the games due to economics, so its no big deal. If you can't make a triple A game so early on in a consoles life, its a big risk, especially for the PS3 which is expensive to develop for. Also, games get cancelled and at the same time new games are announced instead. So devs shift over to a title they think might be a "safer" bet. Its happening on all systems all the time, but its cool to focus on Sony negative press right now, if FROM software announced a set of new games, that will never be news. its not just joystiq, its the whole internet focusing on Negative Sony articles, almost JUMPING on them.

How many smaller companies are starting work on "HUB" games Joystiq? That would be interesting to find out. Might be nice to TRY and look for a bit of positive Sony news, it can't all be doom and gloom... surely.

...Fact is, the games weren't cancelled. It's just basic resource allocation to meet Armored Core 4's project deadline.
