i do think they have, definately. i have read else where that he was named one of the top 5 five directors to watch, even before he was given the halo position. and as for that video, its brilliant, and it has me even more excited in anticipation for the halo movie now, bring it on =D

I think it'll be good, besides, it's not the traditional Peter Jackson/Speilburg type of movie. It's someone new and fresh, and will bring a bit of young imagination to the playing field.

if he made this movie, it looks good, good ideas and all but i still think someone like george lucas would be better suited to make the halo movie, although what he made looks amazing as well and is comparable to something that spieldberg/jackson could make so it should be good, i just hope he doesnt screw it up cause hes never done a movie, its a huge deal to like everyone and so it better be good

I think this could be a good move. With Jackson watching whats going on as executive producer, it'll be ok.

Plus I think it could be good to get someone fresh to the game to movie adaptation thing.

And the special efects of WEPA will only help.

@5

This is not Halo movie footage. This is the said director's previous movie(s).

Looks like an interesting choice.

That looks alot like graw for the 360... and to me thats a great thing. If they can capture Halos true look and grittyness while staying true to video game like animation(and from the video game/realistic look of that clip i think it can be done well) this will be the first video game movie i can dig.

I think it's great that this is guy is NOT george lucas or speilberg or any of those dudes. I am very pleased that the producers and microsoft are all behind this guy that made this incredible short and are willing to give him a shot. this is this guy's chance to become a lucas or a raimi.

WETA will just bring the noise on top of all that goodness. looks like it's shaping up...to not smell like poo.

You know I find it interesting that they went with this director. Not based on skill, but style. If you see the style of his previous movie, and then recall the concept art and the style that Marathon had, you may see some similarities and why Neill is perfect for the job. I mean he the look and feel that could make Halo be unbelievable.

I always love how Bungie puts the Marathon logo in Halo & Halo 2.

Actually, all speculation about Halo the movie and Halo 3 launching on the same day and date was ended weeks ago when Bungie confirmed that the two projects had nothing to do with each other. They run a weekly update on their own site, and often respond to fan questions, and this item was mentioned this year after Halo 3 was (finally) officially announced.

Also, Microsoft has refused to comment on this "announcement" from Xbox.com, which has already been pulled, but I see nobody is mentioning that.

Wow, I was really impressed with that short film..

this is also the guy that did that Citreon Commercial with that dancing transformer.. which is sooo weird because last night i just heard about him directing and I was fooling around on youtube, and saw that commercial not even knowing it was that guy who did it..

I have seen the Citroen commercial before and loved its originality. This was my first chance to view any of his other work. After watching the posted short film all I have got to say is, Halo is in good hands.

I don't think Lucas or Spielberg would have been a good choice for this movie. George would have made it a hard coated candy shell and not delivered on the story. Come on how many of you were just a little disappointed with Star Wars II. Sure he had to lay ground work for his story but please. Spielberg while is an avid gamer would loose something in the process, it is not his original idea and conforming to someone else's story is generally not his best original work. So I feel he may get stifled and would adversely effect the quality of what he is trying to portrait.

What the fuck are you smoking, psycho? Lucas hasn't done a single good thing since the first three Star Wars movies. And dare I say it, those have since been eclipsed by better films. What he SHOULD do is take his MONEY and give it to THIS guy.

Just from watching the video, this guy is impressive. It's a nice update of the Alien Nation idea here, and it's directed very professionally. The helicopter shot of the suited alien tossing the van is awe-inspiring and shows such a bold move to shoot away from the action.

He's definitely a talent, and I am looking forward to his Halo movie.
