The ESRB is designed to rate games according to their content. The ratings are dependant on criteria that all ESA members agree upon. While the goal of the ESRB is to protect the industry from criticism, it would devalue the system if a game was given an incorrect rating just toi avoid a political backlash. This would mean the ESRB has other interests than accurately rating the content of the game. If one rating is purposely misleading, then what stops people from questioning every rating.

As for the game Bully, I can't get behind the game. It seems to exist soley to generate controversy. Rockstar seems to be trying very hard to really hurt the game industry. They lost a lot of credibility with their handling of the Hot Coffee controversy, and they seem to be completely detatched from the real world. At this point, I wouldn't miss them if they were to go bankrubt from lawsuits.

I really wish it sues the ESRB. That'd be the next in a long line of lawsuits it's lost.

The freakin' ratings are advisory. What you gonna sue for? Violating your morals? If that were illegal, 80% of US residents were in jail already.

So wait...Kevin, that complete douche, he is speaking for the gaming public to Jack? Oh God.

This is my analogy. It is as if, after the pearl harbor bombing, our counter against Japan consisted not of our best soldiers, but of a single army janitor who was demoted for masturbating at inappropriate times. I'm not saying that Kevin Pereira touches himself too much; i am just saying that he is inept.

Why does he release his little letters to people on this webpage? Is it because no one will pay any attention to him anywhere else? No one takes this guy seriously that's why he is forced to go on G4 where carreres go to die. Watch if the game bully does get a mature rating he will say it was because of him and not the conscious decision of the ESRB. Mr Thompson, I believe that the ESRB is capable of making up their own minds as to what the ratings on a game should be without the mindless opinions of some has been ambulance chaser.

The interview reaffirmed my love for Adam Sessler. He thoroughly dominated Jack Thompson despite the sleazy lawyer's constant attempts to interrupt him, and said everything that we all would like to say to Jack if we ever met him on the street. Beautifully done, Adam! I KNEW there was a reason I still watched G4!

Erm... are you guys seriously naive enough to believe that the above commenter is actually Jack Thompson and not just a fellow Joystiq reader looking to bait flames? Do any of you actually believe that Jack Thompson would read and comment on Joystiq?

Come on now, guys. You can't be that dumb.

(This is written after seeing the AOTS story)
Oh oh! Time to do a John Bruce!

I predicted how John Bruce would act several days ago. I knew he couldn't resist demanding it be his way or his way (written correct).

http://gamepolitics.livejournal.com/336388.html?thread=24828420#t24828420

You see? He did the exact same thing during the interview when he said Rockstar should let HIM play Bully now so he could decide whether it was appropriate for others or not.

And of course, true to form, he brings up race. He's mentioned "white on black" violence in GTA VC, "black on black" violence in GTA SA, and now refers to a "black" kid's head being dunked in a toilet. Why you may ask? True to form, he attempts to draw in organizations through misleading information (including taking things out of context) to try to incite organizations to back his crusade of lies and deceit. Using people and their tragedies, organizations, and even the government through lies and deceit is nothing new.

He also, as you noticed, TRIED to speak over the others from the beginning. This time, he failed miserably. For that matter, his entire argument failed miserably. Such a sad, patetic individual is John Bruce. He even tries to take credit for "changes" to a video game when there was no evidence of any particular content that he's laid claim to for the past year. (On numerous occasions, he's referred to Bully as a "murder simulator" and a "Columbine simulator" with no FACTS to back up his claims. Now he's trying to weasel out of having lied to citizens, organizations, and the government by claiming Rockstar changed content that was never reported in the first place.)

Great show. Wished it could have lasted at least a full 30 mintues if not the entire hour. I think it was a good mix. John on one end, Adam on the other, and the Game Daily CEO in the middle. Really decent stuff, even if it was too short.

He does indeed post on Joystiq - he's like that, our Jack. Always going to the source, so insult where we can see it ...

Jack seems to think that putting "Re: " in his subject line will get past the junk filters. Good thing it doesn't work.
