PSP to get some Cash Money y'all
Sony Online Entertainment announced today a new IP coming to the PSP -- Cash Money Chaos. From the description, the game is basically a modern-day Smash TV set in a 70s environment. The story works like this: You are captured by some aliens, thrown into a game show, and are asked to not only save the human race, but also get that paper! SOE is promising to put the "C" in chaos on this one:
"Cash Money Chaos is an action-packed, arcade-style shooter that explodes a new genre onto the PSP. CMC will have players scratching their heads, asking themselves if they really just saw -- and shot -- what they think they did. Of course, taking your hands off the controls to scratch your head may be detrimental to surviving the next wave of killer gorillas or demented clowns."
The game is slated to come out early next year. Check after the break for screenshots and the full press release.

SONY ONLINE ENTERTAINMENT ANNOUNCES CASH MONEY CHAOS™ FOR THE PSP® SYSTEM
Retro Arcade Game Play Combined With an Action-Packed, Twisted Game Show Scheduled to Rock the PSP(R) System In Early 2007
SAN DIEGO, CA – August 9, 2006 – Sony Online Entertainment LLC (SOE), a global leader in the online games industry, today announced Cash Money Chaos™ for the PSP(R) (PlayStation(R)Portable) system. Cash Money Chaos (CMC) is expected be available in Q1 2007 for the suggested retail price of U.S. $29.99.
"Cash Money Chaos is an action-packed, arcade-style shooter that explodes a new genre onto the PSP," said Chris Sturr, Senior Global Brand Manager, Sony Online Entertainment. "CMC will have players scratching their heads, asking themselves if they really just saw – and shot – what they think they did. Of course, taking your hands off the controls to scratch your head may be detrimental to surviving the next wave of killer gorillas or demented clowns."
CMC contains more than 50 hyper-fast levels, from circus tents to swamps to medieval settings, where players will grab cash, prizes and weapons as they unleash torrents of destruction upon their foes. Set to a hardrocking soundtrack, players will annihilate alien chickens, mutant hillbillies, and homicidal clowns, in addition to tackling monster bosses, such as the enormous bearded lady and her cadre of deadly unicyclists.
CMC will also take full advantage of the PSP system's network capabilities, delivering both local and internet games for up to eight players, allowing them to bash their way through the game cooperatively or to compete against each other in prize-laden death matches. CMC is a futuristic and brutal experience with a sarcastic sense of humor.

is this game made by wilmer valderamma or something? "$1000.00 in cash money."
bassbeast @ Aug 9th 2006 2:21PM
And they say that videogames are juvenile!
Way to advance the cauuse there, SOE. Need more Krispy Kremes over there?
Exbzurg @ Aug 9th 2006 2:24PM
So basically its an effed up shooter... How is that a new genre??
cringer8 @ Aug 9th 2006 2:29PM
Why must people be so negative?
It doesn't sound like an "un-fun" game. It's a bit early to try and build any hype, but I'm sure SONY is really proud of this one for a reason.
It seems like anytime the PSP is brought up, people automatically go on the offensive. Relax, no one is forcing you to buy anything.
ascii42 @ Aug 9th 2006 2:35PM
If this is anything like SmashTV, Sony has every reason to hype this game. It's exactly what the PSP needs.
Todd @ Aug 9th 2006 2:35PM
I'm already bored.
jason @ Aug 9th 2006 2:36PM
"Cash Money Chaos"? Classy. When are we going to get some really good quality games? If it wasn't for the homebrew scene, I would have sold my PSP LONG ago.

"* Rockin' Punk Soundtrack! Driving music to get your death on with."
Outside of midget porn this may be the worst idea I have ever heard of. Reading articles like this make me wish I was abducted by aliens and forced to kill myself.
Anubis @ Aug 9th 2006 2:39PM
"Huge Transforming Bosses Will End You!", "Wicked Battle Arenas!", "Set to a hardrocking soundtrack..."
Who job was it to write this???...okay Mr. Pop Culture....keep trying....
David Erdreich @ Aug 9th 2006 2:45PM
Great! Another game for people to play on the subway without headphones. I'm sure I'll love the soundtrack... whether I want to or not
otakucode @ Aug 9th 2006 2:52PM
They still make games for the PSP?
gman @ Aug 9th 2006 2:52PM
so they're "inventing a new genre" ....'cept it's smash tv...so wouldn't smash tv have invented it?
Sony really needs to hire an editor before they push this shit
Christopher7xii @ Aug 9th 2006 2:59PM
*shrugs*
sounds sweet to me. Always loved Smash TV. Im sure if you hate the soundtrack you can turn it off, but punk is always the best frantic music IMO.
Sony haters, you're getting old though. You complain about games not being built for the PSP, taking too much time to get into. This is a quick session, fast paced, original(well, not a sequel... no such thing as original anymore) game for the PSP. Load times will probably be pretty damn fast too judging by the simple setup of the game. I mean, if this was coming out for the Wii or as an XBLA game, everyone would be "omgcantwait!".
Bottom line, it looks entertaining, a game probably worth picking up.
Probot @ Aug 9th 2006 3:01PM
Robert,
Is it necessary to show the entire press release in every post? Link to it if you want, but I try hard to avoid PR hype.
You, specifically, seem to do it a lot.

I don't have any problem with the posts acompanying them, it's just that they seem to be pretty unecessary.

You can totally get the bling-bling while rocking out to rock-awesome trax on your skippin wicked PSP!!!! DUDES! WICKED! OBLIGATORY PUNK PHRASE!
Oh, for the record, it's a new genre on the PSP, not in general. First Smash-TV clone for the handheld. So they say.
Still though. It's an incredibly immature marketing scheme.
chris 412 @ Aug 9th 2006 3:24PM
Damn, I was really hoping this was a Cash Money Millionaires sim.
*brrrrrrrrr, what happened to dat boy?*

"CMC will have players scratching their heads, asking themselves if they really just saw – and shot – what they think they did."
I'll say. I can't tell what's going on in any of the screenshots.
IP @ Aug 9th 2006 3:54PM
What does new IP mean? What does IP mean?
Dr.Swiss @ Aug 9th 2006 3:55PM
This is garbage.
If they wanted Smash TV on PSP why didn't they just MAKE SMASH TV FOR PSP.
A remake of the classic in full 3D with all the original arcade voices and remixed arcade music. That would of rocked, unlike this.
And I agree, I can't tell wtf is going on in the sreenshots either.
Bearxor @ Aug 9th 2006 4:03PM
BIG MONEY!
BIG PRIZES!
I LOVE IT!
clo1_2000 @ Aug 9th 2006 4:07PM
New IP = New Intellectual Property, meaning its an original work not a sequel or rip-off (supposedly)
Levi @ Aug 9th 2006 4:14PM
It looks like the PSX game Loaded, except all of the action takes place in a box.
Agent MOO @ Aug 9th 2006 4:24PM
"What does new IP mean? What does IP mean?" - IP
IP = Intellectual Property
It's just a copyrighted idea for what could be (but hopefully not) a franchise.
The contrast in those screenshots is pretty bad, I can't even identify the player in those shots.
steve @ Aug 9th 2006 4:26PM
if it turns out to be anything like smash tv, you people with psp's should be happy. It is a fun game to pick up every week or two for about a half hour. The difference being how much it costs. Smash tv was $5. Totally worth it for the half hours of entertainment every once in a while. If it was $10, I don't think it would have been worth it.
Dignan17 @ Aug 9th 2006 4:33PM
Thank you, funkonaut. I've been reading all these whining comments and wondering "doesn't anyone have anything to say about those screenshots?" What the hell are they? Where is your avatar? I saw the screen shots before I read the post and thought it was some sort of twisted billiards game (which, by the way, would have been way cooler than this).
Sorry, PSP fanboys. Pick your battles, this isn't the place to defend your handheld. Not on such shaky ground as marketed hip hop lingo. No, retreat to another bunker.
Sean D. @ Aug 9th 2006 4:45PM
What ever happened to CLARITY in game design. Those screenshots are confusing as hell.
Corbo @ Aug 9th 2006 4:47PM
"explodes a new genre"
"Uber Fast -Enjoy fast action"
"Huge Transforming Bosses Will End You"
"get your death on with"
This whole press release seems to be an amalgam of buzzwords and gibberish. The game might not be bad but this seems like Sony's marketing guys are trying to hype up the game massively in the hopes of convincing people that the PSP will have a killer app. The screenshots show nothing about gameplay and the text tells us nothing other than some office worker at SOE has grammar check turned off.
The PSP could do with some decent games but when they're emphasising the soundtrack on a handheld game and putting "Versus mode" in italics as if it's some unique term, then this is not going to be it.
Vin Da Monsta @ Aug 9th 2006 5:22PM
Ok people, how about we stick to the game and not the advertising....big deal, they use a bunch of buzz words and are trying really hard (in an awkward way) to catch peoples attention, but hey, gotta give them an "E" for effort. If it's a Smash TV style game then take it for what it's worth, if it's your cup of tea then you should be happy, if not then you look at the post, shrug your shoulders, and move on. PSP bashing really serves no purpose. The way I look at it, I've been reading this site for a while now, and it's a shame that any chance certain people (not all) get they're bashing a rival system, all you fanboys need to take two deep breaths and just stick to reading up on your favorite system if that's the case.
PS: And for the record, I like all the systems to some degree for different reasons, so either play the game and make a decision, or just move on...."if you don't have anything nice to say..." you know the rest
apoc06 @ Aug 9th 2006 6:00PM
What does this game have to do with hiphop other than the assumption that the title is a take on hiphop culture? Even the soundtrack is punk. There is no association other than the picture that Joystiq put up as a joke.
Here's a bit of enlightenment:
The term 'cash money' has been used for decades now.
Now that I've spoken my mind, let me say that this press release has to be one of the worst press releases I've ever read. "...bosses will end you"?
I like the idea of a Smash Brothers remake, but as a PSP owner, I can already see this game being doomed to the lower nether-regions of the game ranking charts. Trying to control a Smash Brothers type game will suck.
Hey, at least it has infrastructure mode and co-op.
Stick_Man @ Aug 9th 2006 6:41PM
"CMC will have players scratching their heads, asking themselves if they really just saw – and shot – what they think they did."
WTF! Those screens look like a bunch of exploding water melons. Or maybe they are umbrella tops? I think I see a clown car. Or are the screens just a bunch of exploding clowns. It really looks like someone just blew up Chucky Cheese and thats the left overs.
And where the hell is your avatar?
Invisible avatar + exploding clowns + clown car + umbrellas + water melons = PSP UBER HIT!?
I feel sorry for you PSP guys. Truely. This sucks.
caller @ Aug 9th 2006 8:32PM
otakucode,
The PSP has a lot of great games (and more coming all the time), as many if not more as the DS has. Here are some reviews of both systems games:
http://psp.ign.com/index/reviews.html
http://ds.ign.com/index/reviews.html
When people say the PSP doesn't have games or doesn't have many games or doesn't have many good games or anything of the sort they are in fact lying.
Kamalot @ Aug 9th 2006 9:10PM
PSP's decent games are mostly ports of console games, games I can play at home with better controls, better sound, better graphics and usually for cheaper, months ahead of their PSP release.
This game is completely different.
It is a whole new kind of suck.
bob @ Aug 9th 2006 10:44PM
yes, young padawans, they ARE STILL MAKING GAMES for psp...you know like tekken/valkyrie/daxter/syphonfilter/locoroco in the last 6 months. or did you not notice some of the recent new PSP games cuz ur heads were stuck so far up nintendo's collective ass?
The Dude @ Aug 9th 2006 11:29PM
@ Bob
Na, I think its because no one really cares about the PSP in general anymore, except $onyfans bots of course.
chiax @ Aug 10th 2006 2:03AM
Hmmmm....urrrgh.... what's that smell? oh ...... it's the stink of ninty fanboys trying to bring down the psp. Start accepting the fact that the psp is every bit as worthy as the DS. Go and quietly play your DS, fanboys. I walk around malls and homes and I had seen more sightings of psps than nintendo DS FYI. In fact I have yet to see a single DS in action. What does that tell you huh? psp players don't mind being seen playing their psps because it's way better looking than the DS.
cell shaded games, 3D games all just beats the crap out of the DS in terms of performance. Go ahead and look at the youtube videos of burnout legends and bleach. compare them with the DS. Which one would you like to play more? I'd rather much play psp games than DS. I rest my case.
phipscube @ Aug 10th 2006 6:31AM
This looks like Loaded on PS1. That was like Gauntlet on acid. If it can live up to Smash TV and have GFX like Loaded then this will be a nice game. Interesting to see how it pans out.
The marketing spewl leaves alot to be desired, but is it maybe taking the piss? It very much reads like a Japanese person trying to be an American Gangsta Rapper.
Cricising the screenshots is ridiculous. Wait till you see it moving. Its obviously the type of game where alot is going on at once. And all you DS owners F*CK OFF! If you haven't got anything constructive to say about the post, don't bother. Wise ass comments like "Are they still making games for PSP?" add nothing but bait for flaming. Well done, you got my attention at least. Happy now?
T @ Aug 10th 2006 7:31AM
Wow, we PSP players are defensive, huh? Guess we have to be. (Thankfully a proud owner of a DS Lite as well)
I'm sorry...but jesus...look at us. We can defend Tokobot and Loco Roco and Ridge Racer all we want...but "Cash Money Chaos"?!? Don't even try to pretend like this is gonna be good. Why should we side with a console, why should we even begin to be fanboys so bad as to make crap look appealing...jeez...
Still playing Burnout Legends on my PSP, btw...can't get enough.
The Dude @ Aug 10th 2006 1:39PM
@ Chiax LMAO!!! I don't need to do all of that- lol, you need to do that to justify yourself for wasting your money on the PSP. And as for 'smelly Ninty fans' I smell regret and denial from you... I wonder why?..(lol)
Stick_Man @ Aug 10th 2006 4:20PM
WOW! Are they still making games for PSP?! could have sworn it was dead in the water already.
cat dirt @ Sep 6th 2006 7:28PM
it's going to be all local san diego bands. the first time that's ever been done in a video game. smash tv is cool. the bands they picked are not blink 182/warp tour style pop punk bands, either.
