I rather play it on the PC or 360.....IMO The PS Controller isn't designed comfortably with an FPS in mind.

Put it this way.. Sony could easily make God of War 2 for PS3.. but they are even scared to develop for themselves.

darryl,

maybe instead of being a douche you should click on the link (the word "away") in the first sentence. Then you can see what joystiq is talking about.

This better include a lot of upgrades in content in addition to graphics. The Wii is getting a lot of flack for bringing in a lot of old franchises (PoP, Far Cry, etc), but those are new games, not 100% rehash.

The one thing I could see tilt being used for in FPS to great success is stride. It would be great to be able to stride side to side by tilting the controller a few degrees either way. Of course, this may have to be accompanied by a button hold so that it doesn't happen when the player doesn't mean to stride.

It doesn't make a difference who it is......if this keeps up the only games we will be playing are
The Final Fantasy I Promise, Metal GEriAtRic, Devil Stays Crying.
I hope the PS3 doesn't hurt the little developers or innovation. It's fun to play games that are different sometimes (Shadow of the colossus, Beyond Good & Evil, etc..) instead of waiting for the next installment of the same game.

To me this just confirms what I've been thinking for quiet a while.

1. FEAR is coming to 360 cause porting from PC to 360 is fairly easy, so more customers (what are we, 4 million 360's so far?)

2. FEAR is made by a big, skilled, and well financed developer, so porting to PS3...meaning even more customers. Good idea. They can work out programming for Cell cause they are big/good enough. Hopefully the WILL use the tilt and get some good use, maybe for the hand-to-hand combat.

3. Despite what many people here say, not everybody has played FEAR. In fact, I work for a games retailer and there is a clear distinction between console gamers and PC gamers. Yes, some people have both, but these are the rich, dedicated gamers. Not mainstream. Console gamers are looking forward to a chance to play FEAR.

So in this case, we have a sound investment, a new PS3 game, and some more good PS3 news.

On the other hand (from my Australian perspective) we have a $650 XBOX that is "too expensive" for most people. $120 360 games are "too expensive". Soon we will have a $1000 PS3 (and most likely $130 games) which for the average family is f#@king insane. I paid $1.50 a litre for petrol today, you think most people can afford that much on a luxary item?

At this stage we have maybe 15 odd launch titles, many of which are EA sports games (yawn) and nothing that shows why anybody should drop a grand on a console. The offical PS3 site shows bugger all, and even the offical Playstation magazine is talking about Motorsiege using screen shots for E3 2005's CG clip, and making fubars like saying it still supports 7 controllers.

If Sony don't wake up soon, and pull their finger out, you WILL be able to buy a PS3 off the shelf this Christmas is Australia. Cause nobody will want one.

And before you mark me as an XBOT, yes I have a 360 and I LOVE having HD games. People saying that the 360 is just an XBOX 1.5 obviously don't known a HD display. But I have also spent the last two weeks playing nothing but Silent Hill 1 and 3. If SH5 is exclusive to the PS3, I'm going to want one...but for $1000? I'll stick to my 360 unless I see more than just one game that REALLY shows off want the Cell can do.

And so far, I've only seen Heavenly Sword. Looks gorgeous, but so does Gears of War. And personally, I'm not interesting in the gameplay HS will offer. And neither are many other Aussies, especially when Halo 3 is on offer (Australia I believe was the most successful territory in comparison to population for Microsoft worldwide for first Xbox).

Against all this we have a (hopefully) $400 Wii and a $200 PS2 or DS (prob with a game by Christmas). This is going to be a VERY interesting year.

(Sorry for typos, it's way past my bed time)

When will they actually get games that people can say 'that is not made by nintendo, and its already proven its good' Seriously when will wee see an actually good game say its coming to wii aswell. From 2 year old games like hl2, which still wont be coming to the wii, which developer is actually gonna put a good ESTABLISHED game there.

"can't wait for Sony's 4th console.

The Sony FinalGearCry"

Cant wait for nintendo's next console either

Nintendo poo poo: "were too poor to give you next gen graphics, so here is the snes in a new colour"

Sana i actually liked your post, but I think your underating the ps3, and halo is nowhere as big as you try to make it seem in australia.

I can't wait for this title to drop, I didn't have a PC hefty enough to run it so I'm glad to hear that both NEXT GEN consoles could be getting this title.

it was just a play on words - game fear (scary), a good one at that, being joystiq i see how everyone is jumping on it...

You lose all credibility for saying Nintendo is too poor to provide Next Gen graphics. Nintendo has 7 billion dollars in the bank they are hardly poor. Sony had 10 billion in the bank but they aren't solely a gaming company. Nintendo chose not to provide a console with the graphical prowess of the 360 and PS3. Its a gamble that may or may not pay off for them.

Its amazing how much ppl care about a 1 year old PC game that made a commercial fizzle. Who cares if it does come to the PS3, its like HL2 coming to the PS3. Jesus their both ports of old PC games that can be better and bought cheaper on the PC. Not to mention that the multiplayer was so lame that their making it free, which makes me wonder if/why this will be 60 bucks. Ok it wasn't that bad but it was laggy, not very original, and not to fun.

@Common Sense

Halo 2 currently stands as the fastest selling console game ever. Please don't make me Google a reference, but I believe I remember reading something along the lines that it was the first game to push 2 million units so quickly. In many places in Australia and the USA, Halo 2 sales beat out box office takings for some several movies at the time across opening weekend.

At many, many stores across Australia, imagine 140-200+ people all there at Midnight at a shop designed to hold maybe, 20-30 people max?

Halo 2 was insane. The 360 launch went well, the PSP launch was OK, Gran Turismo 4, very good. Nintendo stuff....slow for but always good, when you can get it. MGS? Forget it...really not much at all. PS2? OK...THAT was insane...but that was 6 years ago and at lot has changed.

My question is if the PS3 Hype Machine does work as well as the PS2 one (though I seriously doubt it) can Sony keep production up? If there are 2 million units at launch, plus 1 million a month from there, and it's going worldwide? Japan/USA/Canada/Europe(don't know how many countries there) and this time Australia and I think New Zealand as well? The 360 has what, 1.8 million units for just the first 4 countries, us Aussies and NZ ppl had to wait months. 1.8 million when Japan didn't care vs 2 million when Japan DOES care AND you add in Aus and NZ?!? Those numbers don't add up.

@ Darcrequiem
Although even recently some publishers have been crying that their games don't run on the Wii...this is like the DX10 arguement. Sure games look F#@king awesome, but the hardware, and development price is staggering...and the pay off in sales just isn't there when it's only 4 million odd 360's and PC gamers holding the line. DX9 games look great and are cheaper too make (compartively, we are still talking millions), DX8 still looks good and is cheaper again.

From what I understand, because the Wii doesn't have to worry about HD (it maxs at 480p, yes?) then it's CPU/GPU combo can handle DX9 style stuff no problems.

The 360 does 720p and 1080i. That's a lot of extra load. And Sony says they can do BETTER animation, lighting and texturing (graphics) and physics, AI, OS, UI (gameplay) at 1080p? I'll believe it when I see it. Assuming I can FIND a 1080p display to see it on.

So by Feb next year, when there are 10 million 360s, 4 million PS3s (if production can cope) and maybe 4-10 million Wii's (again, if Nintendo can market this right, and make enough of em...DS Lite problem seems to be under control now) will companies see the profit in releasing DX9 style games on the Wii...I hope so. HL2 with the Wiimote is enough for me to require a box of tissues. That a the light sabre concept, but let's not start that again.

The real question is what about physics? Do we need a seperate chip for real next gen envirnoment interaction? Does this mean the 360 and PS3 are incapable of TRUE next gen compared to what the PC will bring in the next 4-6 years? Or can a multi-core PowerPC feed the physics off to one of it's cores and do the rest of the game on the other two? Can a Cell programmer work out how to get the main Cell to feed off the physics info at the required speed (along side graphics, sounds, AI, net connection, OS, etc) to all it's baby cells? I'm no programmer...so I have no idea. Ask Carmack ;)

What I am about to say is NOT a knock on whether he Wii will have great games,(I'm sure it wii) but it is a comment about Wii games being able to handle DirectX9.

The Wii can handle DirextX9, in a sense that a Nvidia 5200FX can handle DX9, but if you compare a game like FEAR on a Nvidia 5200 FX, to that of a DX9 Nvidia 7600 GT, the quality of the graphics of that game will be night and day. And from what I can tell, the Wii's GPU looks to be on par with a Nvidia 5500 FX and/or an ATI 9500.

When you put a ATI 9500(Wii), against a ATI X1900XTX,(XBOX360) I hate to tell you guys, but when you are looking at that big of a graphics gap, lowering the resolution will only take you so far.

The one thing that Nintendo must not ever let happen, is for 3rd party publishers to release a port of a 360 or PS3 game on the Wii, such as Madden. Because once you see the same game being shown side by side on the Wii and a 360 in a store, you will see a huge graphical difference between a Wii and a 360/PS3, no matter what the resolution.

@ Sana
you are over looking that each of the consoles has a specific strategy.
360 - First out the door 1 years head start. Top of the line HD quality (for its timeframe 1080i). A year to catch up on supply/demand a year for developers to adapt(ie begin secind gen which isnt just all show) and really take advantage of hardware. Then before you know it drop and push new console.

Wii
Gimmycky, simple, and cheap. Mass produce and breach the market through quantity and cheap pricepoint. Something for everyone, ie game play for kids, much broader game sense for averege player(ala brainage and nintendo dogs), a chalange out to the developers(ie you really can make something diferent and unique). All of that puts it in more of an "accessory"(ie portable system - a musthave alongside...) and not direct competitor.

PS3
Quite diferent aproach from what we have seen before. Look forward 2-3 years(to about mid console lifespan) what will become standard/upper end and put those as specs. First year bank on "luxury"/consumer loyalty. As time progresses let the games and the system stand on their own then lower the price to the averege. (if you take away anything from ps1 and ps2 is long support frame beyond next gen release)

My personal opinion is that each will succeede on their plan. However that may not be enough to take them to #1. Nor do i care to speculate which will be on top. Personaly i would prefer a tie. (More competition = more choice = gamer wins)

@16, Agreed. Wii went cheap because they are not targetting the high end market. As technology progress, the high end market will eventually become mainstream. By then, Nintendo can launch something new or slight upgrade which they always do in order to keep up. For XBOX 360 and PS3, there are no upgrade needed.

I've not liked Sony for a few years now, but I think this is still a good thing. I'm already unhappy I have to get a PS3 for Heavenly Sword, Resistance, and Final Fantasy XIII.

The more games that are multiplatform the better. This would be one more game a Sony fan could play without *gasp* buying a 360. And I don't want to hear about the PC. Keeping up with PC Gaming hardware is a practice in futility. For the $600 video card you could just buy a PS3.
